HELP! Frustrated dh not losing weight.

  • I have been op since April. I have done it through a COD.

Now my dh has decided to do something about the 70 lbs he needs to lose to get to a healthy bmi. Of course, Our cod wants to charge him around $700 to give him information (he would never go in and will use the bathroom scale because he is embarrassed and also is never free during their WI times).

Stupidly I put him on red though I have the numbered guide book, I thought the quantities of categories (ie: number of dairy, etc) were different from coloured to numbered then I found out that the portion sizes are different too. So that why he lost a quick 7 lbs then kept gaining back day by day.

I am doing plan 3 w/o lites so he is now doing plan 3 w/lites. He weighs 240 and is 5"`11. He bikes 12 km about 4-5 times a week... Which numbered plan should he be on?

He has gained 4 of the 7lbs he lost and is getting frustrated enough to quit. I am hoping someone will give me the info on which numbered plan he should be on as this is the first time he has been motivated to even try weight loss. I know if he doesn't start losing he will give up and that will be it....

  • Tan,

I can't speak toward the numbered plans, but there are a few other things you both should think about..

If he quits, does that mean he's going to go back to eating the same old crappy junk food without a thought toward what that will do for his support of your efforts?

Even if he's not showing consistant losses, he's eating better and that's doing his body good.. If nothing else, he'll be healthier, will have more energy and will be able to lose faster when he decides to pick it back up...

But let's get back to the support issue.. Liz and I could have never done this by ourselves, especially when the other person would be eating whatever they want... With both of you eating better, the crappy food is (ideally) out of the house and you make better choices when eating out.

So at the very least, he should play around with serving amounts... Make sure he's not deviating from the plan at all and make sure that if he's increased his physical activity, that his protein amounts get adjusted upward a bit to help with the calorie and fat burning.. Otherwise, his body will go into starvation mode and retain more..

And dont' forget.. He's got to get in all the prescribed amount of water...

    Sorry this sounds like preaching...
  • Hi Dan,

No he actually does like the changes he is feeling. But he will stop watching portions if he doesn't see even small results soon. It's just so hard because he is working so hard at it.

And the fact that we are doing together is great! And a close friend of others started up again so that makes it easier so as we say "we can be freaks together". LoL! Nice to have someone other than the COD to talk about this stuff with.

The water is no trouble! He definitely gets that done, he says he is like an old man or pregnant lady with getting up to use the washroom in the middle of the night. LOL! It's awesome because prior to this he NEVER drank water ever.

And you didn't sound preachy at all.At least you answered me

I am thinking if he continues to remain stale then maybe he needs to move up to plan 4 because maybe his body is in starvation mode. I just need to find the numbers for paln 4.

  • ok Tan.. Good to know...

Sorry I can't help you with the numbered plans.. Our COD closed before they even came about..
  • From what I can find, I think Plan 4 is 4P, 4V, 4F, 5S, 3Fa, 2D and Plan 5 is 4 or 4 1/2 P, 5V, 4F, 7S, 3Fa, 3D.
