Default Hey everyone! im new here...

Hey everyone,

My name is Candice i live in edmonton. Im a size 18 and 235lbs (bottom heavy). I just recently had a revelation (so to speak) and need to change my body asap. Im a singer and recently won a major competition and got to sing a couple songs infront of 19,000 people (which included producers, musicians, and their managers and managers scouting on their own). My mom recorded my performance and a week later she couldnt take it anymore and had to tell me...
once i got on stage she could hear people all around her saying "omg shes fat" "wow thats a big girl" and so on... but once i started singing it changed to "wow shes a great singer... to bad shes so fat"

Im not sure what hurt more... the fact that people were saying this or the fact that my mom told me. Either way, once i watched the video and saw just how big i am and when i "tryed" to move around on stage i felt so ashamed, how can i say im comfterble in my body.Im never acctualy going to get anywhere with my singing being fat.

I need to loose the weight so i can do what i love... singing. To be able to go through a set of songs and not be out of breath and have side pains. To dance with my songs... or at a dance club. To look in the mirror naked and love what i see.

Im joining a gym tomorrow and so is my boyfriend (who is my amazing suport) and IM setting my goal......180lbs... thats 55 pounds.

I know i can do it

Hi Candace, and :welcome1:. I think what happened to you was terrible. People can be so ignorant sometimes. But that will never change.

You've come the right place. I'm pretty new here myself, but so far I've found it to be so helpful and supportive. Best of luck on your journey. I know you'll do well!

Hey Candice!

Sounds like your singing is a great motivation for you. Do you have a plan yet? What are you thinking you'll do? Deciding to lose weight is one thing, but without a plan it'll be difficult to do so. So plan away!

You may want to check out our groups by age range or eating plan...you could find the spot that fits best, or several spots, and just jump in/keep posting.

Can't wait to hear more from you soon. Stick around!

Talking Hi fellow newbee

Candice:

I believe we have found the right place for support. It sucks that we are judged by how we look and not our talent especially with the younger generation. If this is your dream than go for it, maybe this is the motivation you to get you are a plan. And this is the place where you can share your triumphs and let downs. Good luck with your journey and your singing career.

Oh wow, of course you can lose weight, but I am trying to get over that your mom told you. Does she often say hurtful things? I have a daughter who has always been pretty big, I CAN NOT imagine ever telling her anything like that! Oh well, moms, eh?

Sure wish I could hear you singing...I'm sure you are AMAZING!

Welcome!!!

I also understand the WHOLE mantra of being a musician and being overweight. it has always stopped me from performing live. I went to a contemporaty music college here in MN (for Music Business actually)and we were required to be in Ensembles (I was in Rock all 3 times ) I LOVE to perform but I was so self conscious up there!!! I don't know what I would have done if my mother told me people were making comments. I also have video of myself and I just cringe.

Again, I hate the stigma of the music business. I really do feel, though, that talent overcomes the physical. But it sucks when pop princesses sell records when they can barely carry a simple melody.

I doesn't matter though. I got your back girl, ROCK ON!!!!!! You are woman hear you ROAR!
