Default It was going to be :Yoga or Pilates advice please. But I just fancy some ideas really

sorry if there's already a thread like this.

I'm thinking of starting either yoga or pilates or both.
At the moement I'm only really running and walking mostly on the treadmill (will move outdoors when I can run a decent amount) and feel I really need to do other things. I've read this on that on here and what always comes up is you need to work different parts regulary, not just run all the time as it just uses the same muscles.

So I was thinking about starting yoga or pilates at home to start with, get a dvd or something and basically try different things.

I don't know really, I just know I need to start doing different things, and always fancied yoga and pilates - mainly because I always said I wanted to do it but mum always said 'people like me don't do yoga' so I quite fancy proving her wrong and enjoy something different.
I wouldn't start a class straight away as I know I'm so unflexible and useless so don't fancy embarrassing meself and then being put off.

I don't really know what my thread question is really.
Any ideas for the most unfit person ever?
What do you enjoy most?
Any good videos or dvd's for yoga and pilates for real basic begginers?
I just need some new things to get me going.

I really can write alot of words without much meaning lol

how did you start moving in the very beginning when you were at your most unfittesest?

thankyou

There's a fairly new DVD called Mayo Clinic Wellness Solutions for Weight Loss which has 3 segments on it, designed to educate us about weight loss. One of the segments is on exercise and includes what I think is the best yoga workout for larger people that I've seen. It's definitely designed for beginners. Part of the workout is meditation, the other part is yoga and features yoga master Rodney Yee. They use things like chairs as props to make the movements gentle yet still effective. It's available on Amazon, though I don't know if it's available in the UK. It's really a fantastic introduction to yoga for the rest of us. The rest of the DVD, which is about weight loss and how obesity affects our body, is very well done as well

I REALLY like Gaiam's "Yoga: Conditioning for Weightloss" DVD. It is part of a 3 DVD set - quickstart, conditioning and maintenance. I started with the quickstart at 215 lbs, age 50, very out-of-shape (still can't run if my life depends on it), and having had some major shoulder and hip issues, oh - and arthritis and knee issues too.

So, I am saying - if I can do it, ANYONE can. Make sure you get yoga bricks (blocks) and a strap to help with some of the more difficult poses.

I also REALLY like the 10 minute solution pilates videos, with my favorite being, "Slim and Sculpt Pilates".

Again, I was able to do all of the moves "modified" right from the beginning.

I really do recommend adding both to your workout routine. I think they have made a world of difference in my flexibility and helped with creating lean muscles that help me look so much better as I lose weight.
