Popcorn flavoring?

  • I stopped buying butter flavored due to recent news it might be bad for you (who knows?). I found a recipe for homemade microwave popcorn in a brown lunch sack. Any good ideas for flavoring other than the usual melted butter?
  • I use a bit of olive oil on mine and sometimes a few butter buds, along with good old table salt. I also stopped those micro bags for the same reason and besides, buying a huge sack of popcorn costs 2.00. A box of three 2-3 serving bags costs more than this!
  • I just ordered from here: http://www.kernelseasons.com/shop_seasons.php

I haven't gotten them yet... but they sure sound yummy!
  • I really like nutritional yeast sprinkled on popcorn. You can find it in the health section of most large supermarkets or in a health food store. You have to spray the popcorn with some kind of oil, butter, etc so it will stick. I also add salt.
  • Is that safe, using a brown bag? I've seen warnings that anything other than a purpose-made microwave bag or other purpose-made container might pose a fire hazard (yes, I know about the diacetyl warnings, but plastic and borosilicate glass microwave poppers have been available for years)

That said, I Googled and came up with this link of recipes:

    Further Googling brings this:

Scroll down to the end and you see a warning against brown-bag popcorn popping
  • Maybe if you have a high wattage microwave...I watch it very carefully while it pops

OOoh, caramel. I wonder if you can find them in stores?
  • i watched a thing on the tyra show ( not sure how accurate it is) but they had a doctor on the show and buttered popcorn was one of the things on the show and the dr. did some tests and said as long as you dont lick off all the butter on the inside of the bag or scrape the bag that there was no harm.
  • Personally, I love cinnamon on popcorn.
