Losing willpower, help?

  • I'm so sick and tired of losing weight! I got down to 142 lbs and I gained back up to 150, and I've been maintaining from there. I know I'm at a healthy weight now, and I could logically maintain right where I'm at but I'm not happy with my body. I just can't get up the willpower to exercise. I know I can eat healthy and not exceed my daily calories but I just seem to refuse to get off my bum! I know at this point, after losing so much weight with VERY little exercise.. it's critical for me to workout, and build my muscles back up, especially if i want to change my body.

I work at a gym for goodness sakes! I have access to a free personal trainer and they'll PAY us to workout for 30 minutes on our shift and I STILL won't do it.

    What's wrong with me?
  • Just sit back, relax, take a deep breath . . . you said it yourself, chickie . . . you are at a healthy weight now. Maybe you need to practice maintenance for a bit . . . Many of the girls in the Maintainers Forum have mentioned that just getting themselves out of the "must lose; must tone" mindset helps to get things moving in the right direction again. Don't be hard on yourself, look at everything you have accomplished . . .
  • Just getting started--today's my first day! "WILLPOWER" is a word I google almost daily. How do you find it initially--I mean getting over the hump! Whether it's related to exercise or eating...it's so hard to find that inner strength. I need some motivation now! How did you guys get started? What eating plans are you following? How did you get through day 1...day2...day3?? I'm really struggling with just beginning.
  • you have lost 84 pounds@ thats amazing! that shows you have to motivation and will power even though you may have temporarily lost it! you will get it back! relax for a bit and get a new fresh start!
  • Don't beat yourself up!! It's amazing that you have lost all that weight and you should give yourself credit! The exercising will come when the time is right and you're ready. And until then, you could try parking a little farther away, taking the stairs....just increasing your daily steps might make you feel better about starting an exercise plan. And start out slow....that way you won't feel overwhelmed. Plus, have you tried exercising since you have lost all the weight? Maybe you are just dreading it because you remember what it was like when you were heavier. I bet it would be alot easier now.....just something to keep in mind.

Good luck and Congrats on a job well done so far!!!!
  • Oh you should totally watch some inspirational sports movies!! That always gets me going and excited about doing something active (even if its just walking). I recommend to watch 'Stick it'.
Or how about signing up for a non-gym dance class? Like swing, or salsa or hip-hop. Its a lot of fun.
Or getting off a few stops earlier on the bus, walking up stairs. Everyone says that you dont have to do your excersise all at once, so 10mins here and there everyday is just as effective.
And my personal favorite, putting on some music and dancing crazy for a while haha.
  • You spend all your time at a gym working...you might be sick of those walls. But can you do something fun, active, and NOT in the gym?

Go to the roller rink. Find a place where you can rent a paddleboat or canoe. Find a rock-climbing wall. Break out of your rut. Sometimes, that's all it takes to get me back on my exercise path.
