  • Hi, Anyone here doing a low fat diet? I am trying to keep my fat lower than 20 grams per day and I have lost quite a bit of weight early on before I was overeating. I am going back on track. I bought a book that tells you free foods than you can have and I love it. I can have a bunch of rice, pasta, fruits, and vegetables. I just have to keep my fat grams less than 20 grams per day. Anyone else doing this or would like to do this with me? Well, I will post everyday, I will start this tomorrow. Allright, Bye Guys.

  • Hi
    Hi giovannip811,

I started eating low-fat almost two weeks ago and have lost 14 pounds so far. I try to keep my fat grams under 50 which I know is high but usually I don't eat more than 15-20 a day. I had been eating low carb for about 5 years and switched because within the last year or so my body cannot handle very much red meat and I was hungry all the time. Since January I have lost 37 pounds and still have 222 pounds to go. I started at 380 pounds and now am at 343 pounds(yeah, I know woooahhhh). I see that you are watching fat grams but are you also watching sugars too? I bought a fat free individual yogurt cups and thought I was good to go....I hadn't noticed that it had 15grams of sugar in it until I was done eating it this morning for breakfast....good thing I only bought 2 of them yesterday. Well, I'd just like to wish you good luck with your journey!

    ~~Sarah~~
  • Hi "G"...
I also have been following a low fat diet for the past 41 days. I try to keep my calories around 1200/day, my fat under 26 & I also and work out (cardio) about 3 or 4 times a week for around 20 minutes. I have lost 18 1/2# so far and love it!

My breakfast usually consists of egg beaters with 2pcs of toast with fat free butter spray or oatmeal with 2pcs of toast. Sometimes I splurge and have McDonalds pancakes with no butter, but yes to the syrup. It has about 9 grams of fat (calories are a bit high at @530), but I plan the rest of my meals around this if I have them. They are/were my weakness for so long.
I make a lot of Lean Cuisine meals for lunch and dinner because they are so easy and I can control the calories and fat and know exactly what I am eating.
I also keep a daily record of my weight, food, etc. I recently started adding a tracking system. At 1200 calories/day and 26 Fat/day, I have a total of 8400 calories/week and 182 Fat/week that I allow myself. By keeping tract every day, I know where I am on Friday or Saturday if I want to splurge. So far this week (Sunday-Thursday) I have had 5670 calories and 91.5 Fat, so I know that I have room for pizza tonight, which is my 1 cheat meal a week that I allow myself. If makes me feel "normal" having pizza with the kids on Friday nights and I don't feel guilty about it.
Looks like we have the same starting weight. My goal is 135 by June 7th, which is a surprise 40th birthday for my husband. So I am determined to get this weight off.
Good luck to you and keep us all posted on how things are going.
BTW, I followed a very low fat diet years ago (about 10 years ago) and lost all my baby weight gained with our first child. I don't know why I have waited so long to do this again. I have been overweight for about 8 years now after having our 2nd child.
Anyway, I wanted to say "hello" and let you know that I too am following the low fat plan.

  • Hey Guys, Thanks for Joining
    Sarah:
I do not really care about my sugar, too be honest I do not watch calories either, I don't over do it stuffing my face, but I just make sure I go below 20 grams of fat. Sugar is not really important to me. Together we lose the weight. I love doing Low fat because of the speed of the weight loss and that its also very healthy. Yesterday I was 179 and today I am 177.8 . I can't wait to see my weight tomorrow. Good luck w/ your weight loss.

    Loozin It:
You are really determined to lose the weight and thats good. Its good you are keeping track of calories and fat. Its also good that you give yourelf a cheat meal once in a while because when a diet is boring, we can't stick to it so once in a while, I get a cheat meal, good luck!
  • I thought I'd share a quick break down of the weight loss by week.
    Week 1: Lost 5#
    Week 2: Lost 3 1/2#
    Week 3: Lost 2#
    Week 4: Lost 1 #
    Week 5: Lost 3#
Week 6: Lost 4# so far with one more day to weigh in
Don't know why it slowed in weeks 3 & 4??? But the last 2 weeks have been up to speed for me. My goal is for 3#/week to lose the 45# in just under 15 weeks. So far so good.
So even if the scale doesn't move 1 week or 2 as much, keep it up as you see it does kick in again!
    Keep us posted!
  • Those weigh ins are great. Its great to see that we lost a lot of weight. Tomorrow I am going to the movies with a friend, so I'm just going to have a fruit snack which they have there and its fat free and I'll also get a drink.
  • I forgot to post my meal plan today. I only had maximum 7 grams of fat today because of the subway. I always tell myself that I need more fat but Im never hungry!
  • 2 More Lbs Lost Overnight. I am now 175.8
YESSSS!!!! Today I am going to the movies, I am going to just eat a sandwich there and have some fat free gummy candies with a drink. So, there you go. HaVE a good day everyone.
  • G & L,

Congrats on the weightloss so far! I'm learning not to stuff my face. Before I could eat 2 sandwiches, plus whatever else I wanted. Now I find that one sandwich, sugar free jello cup, and a couple low fat chips or crackers fills me up until dinner. I'm trying not to over analyze whatever I put in my mouth which I did with low carbing. I was going to do a fast for 2 weeks but by the 4th day I was starving and was getting sick, so I went back to eatting low fat again. I tried eatting like how a person would after getting the lap band surgery( I somehow was talked into it by my mom and uncle) which was how I was fasting. I do NOT encourage anyone to do this. I was getting irritable and lightheaded the entire time and on the 4th day almost passed out. Anyway, congrats again on the weightloss!
  • I hope that I can join this thread! I am new to this website. I was searching for some low-fat diet support as this seems to be my best way to lose weight. 6 years ago I lost 100 lbs using a low fat/high fiber diet and regular activity. I kept it off for 3 1/2 years but then I became pregnant and with pregnancy and post-pregnancy I've returned to some VERY bad habits (late night binge-eating, emotional eating, etc...). I breastfeed (although he's 18 months old and weaning) and I'm on zoloft - two things that for ME make it hard for me to keep the weight off.

Anyway, I am just committed 110% to getting back to my low fat, high-fiber active lifestyle. I basically try to keep my fat grams under 30 per day and my fiber above 30. My 30/30 When my son is completely weaned I may adjust and lower my fat grams a bit.

I also do the firm workout dvd's and walking... I'm much more consistent with my movement then I am with my eating.

I have a little calculator that I use to log my fat/fiber (it does calories, carbs, protein too but I don't use those) for the day.

I really need some accountability and I REALLY need to lose this 100 lbs for my health and sanity!
  • Can I join? I began calorie counting in December and slacked off in February. Lost 15 lbs but since then have managed to gain 4 of them back. I'm ready to get back in the weight loss saddle again.

Currently, I am 274 and want to lose 135 pounds. That goal seems so far away and impossible that I cannot even begin to imagine losing that much. So I'm going to break it down in 10 pound increments. First stop is 264.

I've been looking for some good recent lowfat/fat-free cookbooks to buy. I have a Susan Powter one from waaayyy back in the day and Butter Busters. Butter Busters had some great recipes but now that products have changed and it's so out-dated, you can't find a lot of the lowfat and fat-free ingredients anymore. Any recommendations?
  • I'm also curious to find some good low fat/non-fat recipe books. Most of what I find is pretty outdated. I know that "low-fat" isn't the "in" thing right now so it's harder to find info. I have found some decent recipes online but nothing thrilling.

I think that your idea of breaking it into 10 lbs increments is really good idea. I should do the same because when I think of how long it will take to lose 100 lbs I get very discouraged. I know that they say "you didn't put it on overnight" but you know it sure did feel like it and I sure do put it on MUCH faster then it comes off!
  • hi folks -- I too am trying to do low-fat (though for the last week or so things have been really crazy and I have been off plan somewhat). I like the Dean Ornish books _Eat More, Weigh Less_ (it has complete low-fat plan explanation and recipes that were developed by chefs) and the later book, _Everyday Cooking_ (which has more "normal" recipes, still very low fat). You can get them used on Amazon or Alibris book sites.

I'm glad to have found this thread -- I didn't know there were other low fat folk out there!! I am doing consistent but not very intensive exercise, walking my dog and going to Curves, as I have ligament damage in my knees and old sport ankle injuries. Nothing very serious, but I don't want to further injure anything by doing too much weight bearing exercise before losing some weight.

Okay, hope to hear from you soon, and have a good weekend, everyone! We can do this! ! ! !

  • Hi everyone!

I am just starting to think about trying low fat. I have been counting calories since Oct. I've lost 33 lbs already (which I am very happy with!) But, I am having a lot of trouble with my midsection. I have heard that a low fat diet tends to help you loose in the stomach etc better?

I am a little afraid to change up my diet at this point because it's working (you know, if it's not broke don't fix it...) But even though I have gone down from an 18/20 to a 12, I am seeing only one size change (if I'm lucky) in shirts. It's frustrating!

Any advice for getting started w/ low fat eating?
