pulling out of the "attic" of old memories, my mother's lessons in Tayloring!

  • I don't dwell much on anything my mother taught me, verbal or otherwise, she wasn't much of a mother. But I do remember how she taught me to sew as a teen. I hated that we had to shop at the second hand store and wanted to know how to make my own clothes. A gift from her I will take with me and am passing it on to my daughter!

I am now a size 22/24 down from a 26/28. I don't get paid until the 1st so I pulled out the sewing machine and started taking every in. Strange how I remember what to do! I even took in my pants in both in-seam and out! I look so much thinner then I did with them baggie!!! Makes me feel good.

Oh, I did have $6 so I went to the Goodwill and found a size 20 bathing suit for $3.99 (it's a bit big actaully) and a size 16 suit for $3.99 (I can get it on!!!! The top is "snug" I would say and I wouldn't wear it to a family pool! ) Having faith that I might be able to talk them down to $6 I wanted one for now and one as a goal bathing suit. I went up and asked them if there was something they could do...She said that it seemed that the 16 was about to be pulled from the shelf and sent back...so I put on my cutest "please" face and she gave me half off! Making the total $6!

Times have changed...I love second hand stores!

  • that is good. i will have a closet full of 30/32 and 26/28 clothes to take in hopefully.
  • Second hand wonders
Yes, you have to love second hand stores. They are a god send for the whole transition phase! I cant wait to start shopping for smaller clothes VERY SOON!!!! I do envy you. That is one thing I have not learned and that is sewing. Thinking of working on that while I am recoping.
  • Lengthening pants!!
We have a second hand store convert!!! YES!!! I bought two pair of khaki pants and I'm kind of tall and decided that I was going to lengthen them because they were a tad too short (high water pants). After I lengthened them there was a faint line were the old seam was so I got the bright idea that I would embroidery little butterflies over that line. I'll have them done sometime next year!!!

I have taken everything in but my underwear! I have a pair of fleece PJs that I won't part with, but the waist was up under my boobies, the crotch hung down to my knees and the shoulders were falling off both sides at one time. So I hemmed them, took the sides in, moved the buttons over, and....the still are gigantic. I finally broke down and bought me fleece PJs at Salvo and they are just not the same!!

On the last Saturday of every month our Salvo has everything for half price. So I also bought me a bathing suit for only $.99 because I want to start water aerobics at the YMCA, although the bottom part fits, my poor mud flaps just wont stay were they are suppose to stay, and my back and side boobs kind of do their own thing! So my task tomorrow is to find a way to corral those puppies. I'm thinking about stick-em velcro!!!! LOL!!!

Keep up the good work Ange
