hello all

  • Ah, so here I am. I've been very overweight for most of my life and I think it is time for it to stop. My boyfriend and I are both going to try to lose a significant amount of weight. It's nice to have that support, but he lives an hour away so he's not always there to keep me in line. I need to lose at least 130 pounds. I am 282 pounds right now, and I am 5'3"... my goal weight should be around 135ish, but I think 150 would be a good place, I remember that place and I liked it.

My problem is I have way too much of a love affair with food. And enough emotional problems to help me overeat constantly. I am willing to exercise, but at this time I don't know if I can handle 60-90 minutes per day. I am a full time student and I don't really have the energy for that (part of the whole being severely overweight thing). So I do have a question... is it ok to start slower? I think I can manage 20 mins a day... is that going to even be worth it? Then hopefully I can move up to more.

My first goal is to lose 10 pounds by midterms (7-8 weeks). Who knows if I'll make it, but I am sure trying is better than not. Any advice would be great!
  • 20 minutes is alot better than 0

You will see a difference if you just cut back on calories.

I went up to 298 back around 1994 and I started counting calories and keeping it wrote down. My body could not handle any exercise so all I did was walk short distances.

In about 4 months I lost 100 pounds. As I lost more weight I took longer walks. I kept the weight off until I got pregnant with our daughter. She turned 6 Thursday. The month after she turned 1 we decided to have another baby.

So I'm not starting over. Only this time I will reach my goal!

You can do it just take one step at a time and try counting calories.
  • I think 20 minutes is way better than nothing!

I started with calorie restriction and 20 mins exercise and soon enough I had lost 25lbs and was up to 1 hour exercise. And I was not forcing myself to work out. Just with practice, 1 hour soon felt like the same amount of exertition as the origional 20 mins.

You'll move up in time and intensity soon enough, and for now, just feel happy that you are being proactive and working out. Way too many people "diet" without working out and wonder why they never get anywhere.

    Wishing you the best!
  • 100lbs in four months? that's so much! I just really don't know if I have it in me to not overeat. I have tried and tried and I always fail. Then I get depressed and I eat more.
  • you have it in you, I promise. I may be new to 3FC, but I'm not new to dieting. If you ever need any advice or help let me know!

    You're awesome, I promise.
