My new best friend

  • is gum. I chew gum constantly at work and it makes a HUGE difference for some reason. I get a sweet taste in my mouth but it's not hurting me like candy does. Not only that but I don't want to eat anything when there is a fresh piece of gum in my mouth. I haven't even looked at the candy machine in 2 days. I haven't had any sweets since a small piece of cake at a funeral Fri. Thank you chewing gum!

Call me crazy but hey, it's working!
  • Yay! It's so great to find those little things that help us do what we need to do...fabulous that you found one that works for you.

  • Oh I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one that thinks that! I chew gum a lot now. I discovered that for myself this past summer and it really DOES help me to have a sweet taste in my mouth but I don't need something sweet like chocolate cake for example. I started chewing gum so much since I started a medication that made me at first feel like I had a bad taste in my mouth and that's how I discovered the joys of gum!
  • I used to chew gum all the time but my teeth starting hurting so I had to stop.
  • Ever tried sugar free Altoids? I especially like the wintergreen smalls...1/2 a cal per mint.
  • I chew alot of gum too lynsey. It helps my mouth feel like it is getting something when it's really not. It really helps alot. sometimes i want to eat because my mouth is bored. and gum seems to keep it from getting so bored. Congrats on finding something to helps!!!!
  • I haven't chewed gum in years, but this thread may have inspired me to give it another try. It makes a lot of sense that it could help to stop one from snacking. Thanks for the good idea.
  • Since I can't eat too many artificial sweeteners are there many calories in a regular stick of gum?
  • Yay Lynsey! I'm so glad you found something that works for you. I chew gum a lot, too, especially when I'm out shopping - that way I say no to the yummy junk food.
  • doriC, a regular stick of gum has about 10 calories.

    Jay
  • The kind I chew just says <5 calories.
  • I've heard that before but have never been a real regular gum chewer, so I keep forgetting to try it. I have a couple of mushy sticks in my purse right now - I'd better use them before they totally disintegrate. Thanks for the reminder!
  • Hmm, that's awesome, I waonder if that 'll work for smoking also???
  • lyndsey...i've heard people who say chewing gum while cooking helps to prevent you snaking on the food your prepping. I really can't chew gum..hurts my jaw...have bad tmj...but it would be nice. Good for you.
