I would say the best times would be before or after work.

I'm a bit of a morning person so I would say go with a morning workout. Get your stuff ready the night before, clothing, water everything you need for the gym and for work that day. Have your workout clothes ready. Pack a healthy breakfast and head to the gym early enough to get to work on time.

The other option is of course right after work, before you head home. If you do this have an early snack/ part of your dinner before you go to the gym. This was you won't be starving while you pump some iron.

What sort of cardio do you usually do?

same
I have not exercised now for two weeks
I wake at 4:45 AM
leave home 5:15 AM
come back at 7:30 PM
I do get 2 hrs for lunch but I cannot leave grounds incase they page us.

Good thing is...I am so tired at 7 pm driving home...and since I sleep at 9..there is hardly any time left to binge these days!

I am going to try to exercise on the weekends, I usually only work one night if at all on weekends but I sleep maybe 12 hrs a day on Sat/Sun and then do not even feel like cleaning.

I completely know the feeling. I'm up at 6 am, leave by 7 and get home around 7/7:30 pm. I have a hard time fitting in everything else (grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, errands, etc.). I work out 1-2 times a week during the week for 20-30 minutes as soon as I get home. I also work out on Saturday and Sunday for 30-60 minutes. I started doing that about a month ago and I do feel like I have more energy and am less hungry. The thing I hate the most is taking a second shower on the weekdays I work out.

And with that schedule, it's not "just" full-time, it's full-time PLUS. Thankfully I don't have kids or I would never be able to pull it off. The cats don't mind so much that I'm gone 12 hours a day!

How about a recumbent bike or something at home. I do that and get my cardio in. I go to the gym on Sunday, Saturday, and one day per week. For the weights. I also get my cardio in by taking a walk around my workplace during my lunch and walking to and from the train (when I could take the subway).

do you all have 2 hour drives to work or something? what type of jobs do you have? i don't think i could ever manage life having to work that much! i would feel like my identity had been stripped away...i already do, simply waitressing all the time... i get home and i' m so tired i dont even want to put on my normal clothes...once a week my husband and i usually go out and i am starting to forget what i like to wear..it's horrible!

if you're leaving at like 7, and getting home at about 7 that's 12 hours of work a day 5 times...that's like a full time and a part time job!

and i thought school and part time was bad! geeze! this is making me kindof depressed about my future life...

I work full time also, up at 6 and home at 6. I like to work out at night. I don't go to the gym, but I have a treadmill at home. I exercise every night at 9:00 pm - no excuses. This time works the best for me as I am NOT a morning person.

This is me time...the kids are in bed, and I just pull the treadmill in front of the tv and get lost in whatever show is on that night and the time flies by. I have not had any trouble sleeping and since my snacky times were at night it has cut down on them too.

It does sound strange, but I have more energy now that I am working out 6 days a week.

Good luck on finding something that works for you!

My job before this one saw me up at 6 with a 2 hr bus ride to work - finish at 5:30pm and then have a 2.5 hour (sometimes 3 hours if the bus didn't connect properly) and so I'd be home anywhere from 7:30 to 8pm...needless to say that job did NOT hang around long. To much life to live to spend it traveling back and forth from work.

I have a boot camp session three times a week in the mornings from 6 to 7am (I'm lucky in that it's only a ten minute jog...or 3 minute drive lol to the oval) and on the tuesday and thursday I get up at 6-6:30 to go for a run.

Straight after work most days I will go to the gym and do a class - usually spin or combat and/or abs. I find classes in the afternoons more motivating to attend because I've made friends there and I feel more compelled to go lol.

During work I might go for a walk through my lunch break as well...just caust i'm a glutton for punishment :P However it will be far to hot to do that very soon as summer has hit with a vengeance here!

HOPMELLY: You're funny... I do have a 1 hour each way commute to work and I usually work about 10 hours a day. I remember the days when I was in grad school and thought life after graduation would be so great and involve all kinds of relaxation and free time. Alas, I found a job I didn't like but didn't require long hours. Now I have a job I love but very long hours. I work at a hospital and have to be available when families are visiting, usually in the evenings. And the culture of the group I work with is that we work loooong hours. I wish I worked at a law firm, I'd be bringing in more non-carb dough...

Seriously, the exercise has given me more energy and more focus. It somehow has the effect of sweeping my mental cobwebs out.

Thumbs up I completely understand.

I completely understand what you are saying. I have to be at by 7 four days a week, and 2 of those days I work 12 hr shifts (front desk at a hotel), and then I work 8 hour shifts two other days (you gotta love 40 hrs in 4 days and having 3 days off ). So if I want to work out before work, I have to get up at 4:45. I am lucky in that our apartment complex has a gym (albeit a small one with only a few machines), I just need to get there!

Hi girls, thanks for the awesome ideas, before work, right after work, @ lunch and @ home. I guess I need to keep myself motivated. But yes i work about 45 minutes from my house and sometimes traffic is bad, plus as my job is so intense, i have to stay after up to an hour some days, (plus we have to take an hour lunch, even if we don't take an hour). I really miss college. I just don't know how it all can be done, with cooking and cleaning, AHHHH,
anyway, that is my goal to focus more on my health, and someother things can take a back seat, expecially now that i have no kids.
BUT it is so nice to know that you guys are in the same boat with me, Where does the time go? I am glad I am not the only one working this hard, at work.
Thank you,
