Question Cleaning off old olive oil

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I figured foodies would be my best bet for a good answer. I use a Misto for my olive oil, but it invariable becomes encrusted with little bits of oil (yes, they look a bit like boogies). As hard as I try to scrub I just can't get them off and the whole bottle is left smelling of rancid olive oil. Any clue how I can get this clean? I've googled and googled and come up with nothing!

TIA!

Hmm, amazon dot com says "To clean, fill with hot water and a drop of mild detergent, and spray". I'm guessing you've already tried that. The only thing I can think of is soaking it in something that would break down the oil, like rubbing alcohol or something, but I'm not sure how alcohol and steel would behave together.

You might try Dawn Power Dissolver. It comes in a smallish blue bottle. It gets baked on stuff off of pans, so I would think it would get the olive oil remains off. I use it a lot.

But what about the pump mechanism? That's the gunkiest part.
