SBD phase 1 weight loss

  • Hello all! My name is Leah and I am new to this site and to South beach. My brother in law has had great results with it. I quit my weight watchers and bought the book and went grocery shopping today.

How much weight did you lose in phase 1? Did you exercise? I feel like I am eating too much, but I am getting hungry. Snacking on veggies or sugar free jello or a fudge sickle.
  • I only lost about 4 pounds on phase 1 but my husband lost around 12.

My only advice would be to snack on things that will keep you full longer, nuts, string cheese, cottage cheese, hard boiled eggs. Good luck!!
  • Leah! I lost 12 pounds on phase 1, but I'm a whole lotta woman! If you're feeling real hunger, you might not be eating enough. Are you eating protein and veggies with each meal and snack? Are you eating your healthy fats. On this plan, you can lose weight without hunger.
  • Leah! Veggies are great snacks but you can dunk them into hummus or a little peanut butter to help make them more satisfying. If you are hungry, eat! Make sure you get protein with every meal and snack. You may feel a little icky the first days while you are "detoxing". The chicks say eating beans and lowfat/nonfat dairy really helps.
I lost 5 lbs on Ph1, I didn't worry about portions, just ate as much as I wanted because I was terrified of hunger. Once I got through Ph2, I got a little more serious about portions, but a great feature of this way of eating is that you never have to let yourself go hungry.
I did not exercise during Ph1 either, but I think you can just go by how you feel, if you are feeling up to it or not.
  • I lost 4 pounds during Phase 1. I had lost 13 pounds prior to starting SB, and had stalled there for 3 months, so to me 4 pounds was an incredible start. DH lost 8 pounds. The funny thing is that after my 13 pound loss the pants I'm wearing today were still really tight. I put them on today and I can't keep them up. I guess those 4 pounds came directly from my midsection.

I've been averaging about 30-40 minutes a day of walking, but only at about 3 mph.
  • I've seen people lose as little as 3 pounds and as much as 15 during the two weeks of Phase 1. I lost 9 pounds and DH lost 12... Neither of us exercised during Phase 1.

The rate you'll lose is based on a lot of factors... Men lose faster than women... Someone with a lot to lose will lose faster than someone with a smaller amount... If you ate a lot of crap, you'll lose faster than someone who was eating healthy... If you exercise, you'll lose faster than someone who doesn't... And some people are just blessed with a fast metabolism...

You really shouldn't be hungry. I agree with the previous poster who suggested having protein with every snack. It really helps fill you up and keep you full...
  • Two things that really filled me up were beans and also I took sliced turkey, put dijon mustard on it and then rolled it up with red or yellow peppers, spinich, celery, green onions..whatever. A few of those babies and I was good to go. I really don't know how much I lost in phase 1 because I didn't have a scale then and didn't know how much I weighed when I started in April...but my clothes started getting real loose pretty quickly! I was in a very tight 16 then..now I'm in a VERY loose 12 now...probably a 10, but I haven't been shopping yet. Gonna wait till it starts getting cold here before I do that...till then it's sundresses.
  • Leah! As you've already discovered, there's a wealth of information here! The chicks here are really helpful and encouraging, so don't be shy to ask any questions you may have. I hope you've read the book thoroughly to understand the concepts of this way of eating, and be sure to check out our FAQ and recipe boards, too. Good luck!
  • I lost 11.5lbs but i am still having bad cravings so im going to do it for another 2 weeks ... i didn't exercise but im going to start now
  • Has anyone heard of this scenario? I lost about 13 pounds on Phase 1 and now on Phase 2 I've re-gained 3 of them and I can't figure out why. I'm slowly adding good carbs and haven't really cheated. (unlike I usually do). I'm signed up to start exercising next week. Is this normal or did I do something wrong? I have a long, long way to go and I'm so excited about losing even 10.

Thanks for all the great feedback!

    Bobbie
