Default TGIF Chat - September 7

Been awake since 3:30 so I got up and put our coffee on. This may be a day for a short afternoon nap which will probably screw me up for sleeping tonight. I won't dwell on this but Lucy has a fairly agressive form of cancer. I am considering chemo for her but will probably just keep her as happy and comfy as possible. You'll know she's gone when I change my avatar. I'm very sad.

'Nuff said, OK?

As soon as it opens, I'll be off to the gym. Donna comes to clean today and I may leave her in charge of the Doggage and take off for town. I need to get some things for my quilting class that starts later in the month and some art board for mounting pictures.

Breakfast this morning will be Canadian bacon, scrambled eggs and sliced tomato. Want to join me?

Come and chat.

Ruth. Want some company for breakfast? Your menu sounds good. I'm just having yogurt, dried apricots and Kashi. I'm eager to hear more about this quilt you're making, I'm crazy about quilts! I hope you can fit that nap into your busy day.

I have a long day ahead of me, I have to take Audrey to school this morning, but Maggie has had a fever since Wednesday night and she's staying home and going to the doctor's. We think her Lyme's is back. Not a good way to start the new school year, but we're coping.

At least, TGIF! Why is it that the shortest weeks are always the longest?

Ruth, I know you must be devistated. You and sweet Lucy are in my prayers.

Cottage: hope Maggie is feeling better quickly and that fever goes away.

To everyone else posting later....hope your Friday is wonderful!

Me: It's been a long week. The first classes with new kids are always VERY tiring. I have 5 classes a day and there are 15 classes over all. All 15 have now been through their first day. Something pretty cute happened yesterday.
When a class comes in for the first time, they all sit on a big round brightly colored rug on the floor and I go over the class rules, the parts of the computer and what they are used for and then introduce them to the first program we use (a "coloring" program) to get them used to a mouse. I put a round sticker on the left click button on each mouse to make it easy for them to know where to put their finger to click....

So..yesterday I went through my whole lecture for the 15th time and I was about to keel over from jaw pain. I got the kids put at their assigned computers and then said "Ok, now I need everybody to put your hand on your MOUSE. Be sure to put your pointer finger on the "dot".

I looked around the room to make sure everyone was "with me" and there was a little girl with her hand over her MOUTH! I wanted to laugh so badly, but kept it in.

Morning chicks, just a quickie again this morning for me.... everyone in the house is tired and a few of us are cranky... DD went to school in tears because she had panty line. Go figure. DH's mom had her surgery but not til after 8:00 last night it was 2 hours... her shoulder was broke in 4 places. We will find out more today as the Dr was not going to talk to anyone til today. We will probably go up and see her tomorrow.

Dance class was a blast.
Ruth- Hugs to you and Lucy hon, take care and have a nap.
Well gotta to dash I have been trying to organize this week as it is pretty quiet. So my todo list is a mile long. Everyone have a great day.

Good Morning All,

Ruth, my thoughts and prayers are with you and Lucy. This is SO hard. Having been through it twice last year, the memories are fresh enough that I truly understand. How you have the energy to go to the gym is a miracle. It shows how strong you are.

Cottage, sorry to hear about your illness in the family too. There's a lot of fever-driven stuff going around right now. So many people having been coming through the clinic with either fever and diarrhea or fever and a cough, that I want to wrap myself in plastic so I don't catch it!

Femme, what a funny story! I would have been the kid with my hand over my mouth! (Only it probably would have had a donut in it).

Little Chick, I want to go to dance class too!

As for me, it's an early morning to work for a meeting I'd rather not go to. I fell off the wagon last night with cookies and ice cream due to job stress. I'm hoping to make up for it today and get in some purposeful exercise. My job has a trend these days toward weekend-stealing-last-minute-crises just about every Friday and I now approach the weekend with dread rather than longing. It's really sucking the life out of my willpower and making me want to wrap myself in a blanket of food. I'll get past it though.

A great day is wished to all! More later...

Good Morning all you chicks,
Ruth, you've been quiet lately, I was wondering how things are going. Your time with Lucy must be bittersweet right now. My thoughts are with the two of you.
cottage, I can't believe how many people are living with Lyme's these days. The neighborhood behind us is surrounded by woods and grassy fields full of deer, and it seems like most of the kids that live there have it from playing in their yards. I hope they are doing lots of research to figure out how to prevent and treat it.
Cat, I'm sure the kids have a blast with you. Enjoy your weekend - are you having a "date" this afternoon?
Liannie, hang in there. I am a huge believer in insisting on weekends off and vacations. I don't always practice what I preach, but it's easy to be so connected these days that you are never really "off". Hope you can take a break this weekend.
littlechick, best wishes to MIL for a speedy recovery.

Me, well TGIF! work today, of course, then pizza at my mom's. Hopefully the kids will stay over tonight. My parents will be out of town for the next 3 weeks, so I won't be getting my Friday night sleepover breaks. I will miss them, sigh... Wish I could think of something fun for DH and I to do after dinner. Maybe a movie.
Last night I started shoveling out DD's room. She was supposed to clean it before she left for college, but her idea of clean is a little different than mine. I want to finish up in there and get the carpet shampooed. This is the weekend of many neighborhood yard sales around here, so I'm going to try to get up early and check them out tomorrow. DD still needs some stuff for the apartment. So sad the pool is closed now.
Also, I think my refrigerator is trying to go on the fritz. Been noticing lots of moisture in there the last couple of days and my milk wasn't too cold this morning. It's less than a year old, hopefully nothing serious.

TGIF for sure, chickies!

I know it was a short week with the holiday, but this week has gone by SO slow and I'm REALLY ready for 5:00 pm!

Ruth: Oooh! A quilting class! That sounds like a lot of fun! Have you taken a class in quilting before or is this your first one. I'd love to hear about it!

Cottage: Poor Maggie! I hope her Lyme's isn't back, but I'm sure you'll all find out at the doctor's office. I bet you're ready for Saturday, too!

Cat: What a cute story! That must be one of the great joys of teaching. Now I'm really starting to regret not finishing my teaching degree!

LC: I'm sorry, but I'm just giggling over your DD's problem! Hope your MIL is doing well and that the surgery was successful!

Liannie: Well, let's hope that today you won't have a last-minute crisis like you're accustomed to. Then maybe your hope for the weekend will return! Have a great day!

missmess: I know what you mean about loving to eat! I really feel like a cow some days! Hope the teachers' training goes well and that the soccer game is a lot of fun!

Schmoodle: I'd love to join you for the yard sales tomorrow. I just love going! SO much fun. Hope DD's room isn't too bad! Hope you don't go crazy cleaning!

mare: Sounds like those engineers sure know how to push your buttons! Sounds like a whiny bunch of people to me! Hope it's going better for you!

ME: This week has been BUSY! Training the new hire has taken quite a bit out of me. Plus, Wednesday I had to deliver Avon to a friend and she thought I meant that me and DH were going to go and hang out with her and her DH. Needless to say, we were there until 11 pm and I forgot to do laundry as a result! Last night I baked two batches of pumpkin bars (one for a coworkers' baby-shower/farewell party today and one for DH). I also started crocheting a really cool scarf while waiting for the baking to be done. Oh, and I wrapped four presents last night. Tonight I'm doing my bible study and relaxing!

Saturday I HAVE to get some yard work done; the roses need to be cleaned out and trimmed and I've got a pot-bound plant to take care of. I also want to finish painting the bedroom, but we don't have a ladder that will work. I may talk DH into buying the one I want so we don't have to borrow one anymore.

Okay, time to get back to work - hope to check back later! Here's some for all of those Friday temptations!

~Kim

We got 10 new ones last year and I am waiting on the last ones to be delivered any day now...then we will be uptown!!

And no IEP for the cute little "mouth girl"...but I do have a lot of spec. ed kids come in here with other classes for inclusion.

We had our pack committee meeting (right after the PTA picnic where we did the flag ceremony and after Brian's JR Beta club induction) so I've been very busy today creating the minutes from that, updating the pack calendar and website and doing lots of other pack stuff. Oh, and work too!

I've also been updating the spreadsheets that we use when we sell popcorn since that sale starts on the 15th. They've added one more flavor this year so I had to make changes. Brian knocked on almost 900 doors last year so we have to keep track of who he has been to. It's a lot of work and occupies us almost totally for about a month (or two).

Barb I cannot believe that it is that time again for the popcorn sale!! It seems like you were doing that just a few months ago.

Ruth I am SO sorry.

Megan and Cat There certainly do seem to be more special needs kids all the time. I am more than happy to work with the inclusion process, the hard part is that the state of Texas is moving towards all kids being tested on level for our state standardized tests. It just really doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Schmoodle I think I am "due" for a Gammy sleepover now that you mention it!!

Cottage What exactly are the symptoms and end results of Lyme disease? I don't know much about it.

Me- I have had my A**** kicked with school this week. I am so happy to be back in the classroom, but am feeling way overworked. I am team leader of a team that needs a lot of work. They are SO receptive to learning new things and improving their teaching which is awesome! The problem is that the other woman I am co- team leading with is useless. She is unprepared, doesn't teach many of the lessons we team plan, and doesn't contribute much of anything.

My eating has been less than great- no hopes of meeting my b-day goal considering that is on Tuesday.
