Monday Musings

  • Good Morning!

The sun is shining and it's much more comfortable and the humidity is out of here, so it's shaping up to be a great day! I have an early hairdresser's appointment for a trim and color, then it's out to spend the day with my girlies. This is their last week of "freedom" before school starts, so we're going to try to pack a lot of fun things into it.

On the homefront, Jake managed to tough it out yesterday without a cigarette, but he was pretty miserable. We were finally able to have a decent conversation before bedtime, though, without him snapping at me. This morning must have been pretty hard for him. I came downstairs to find candy wrappers all over the table. He musted have really missed his morning smoke with his coffee!

So what's happening on your part of the beach today?
  • Morning Cottage!

I am sorry to hear that Jake is having a tough time- especially since it is at your expense. Hope that today is better!!

Just a quick check as I need to get ready for school. Abigail had the hardest time falling asleep because she is just so stinking excited. She certainly won't be one of those kids boo-hooing!!

    Have a super day girls!
  • A gorgeous sunrise this morning and the rain and humidity has gone for a while. It's still pretty warm for our August but I'll take it! We've had three days of decent rain so the garden will be springing back shortly. I have lots of snaps and asters for fall bloomage and my mums are looking good.

This morning I must get back to the gym after several weeks of procrastinating. I've just taken my painkillers and slathered the knee with Ben-Gay so have to get there before they wear off. My knee operation will be after Christmas (no date) and it's going to be along and painfull fall unless a miracle happens! Losing 40 pounds would be a great miracle.

This afternoon I must go to a visitation. One of the "old ladies" of Delta has died and I am shocked to discover she was only 75. That's just 6.5 years older than me and I sure don't feel old. (My knee is old but not the rest of me!) Shirley seemed old though - probably because she seemed to spend most of her days rocking on the front porch waiting for people to stop by and visit. Remind me never to be like that.

Time to tackle the day. After gym, I need to re-do my list of niggles. I'm getting into fall mode and may even get some of them done! School starting always makes me shift gears.

    Enjoy your Monday!
  • Kiko, I hope Abigail has a wonderful first day of Kindergarten! She's lucky to have a mommy who's a wonderful, motivated teacher.

Ruth, I could never imagine you whiling away the days sitting on your rocker! Heck, even the pain in your knees doesn't stop you. Don't worry, with your zest for life and mindset, you're going to be around a good long time!

Weezle, I love your hair, the color really suits you! And your Godson is so adorable. Just look at those big eyes!

We're getting into the Fall mode, too. I just ordered a new winter cover for the pool off Ebay, and as soon as it comes we're going to close the pool for the year. It never gets used much after Labor Day, anyway. This summer went by so fast this year, it's always kind of sad to say goodbye to it.
  • Hi Girls,
Monday sure does get here really fast. It is really nice here this morning, but this afternoon they said it would be back up to 96. I am really ready for fall. I did get out some halloween and fall ufo's that need to be finished. One is a pillow for halloween, I also am doing a wall hanging for fall. I am going to MN in September for a quilt retreat, so I would like to have these done before I go. I also have to make an apron and decorate it for the retreat. That should be interesting.

Hope everyone has a great day!
  • Good Monday Morning, Chickies!

Cottage: Hope your day with the girls is wonderful. Thanks for reminding me to make a hair appt! Sorry about Jake - I know what he's going through and it's awful how easy it is to take it out on those we love - it'll get better soon!

Kiko: Have a great day at school!

Ruth: I seriously doubt you will ever be happy rocking away on the porch. You'd go crazy not having anything to do!

bkstitch: Sounds like you're getting a lot of ufo's done! I still need to get on mine - we've just been so busy lately that I don't know when I'll get to work. I'm just as ready for fall as you are - I can't wait!

ME: Not much going on today. Dr's appt after lunch to discuss PCOS treatment (I'll be on Metformin) and caloric needs, workout restrictions, and etc. Tonight is women's bible study at the church. I woke up late, so I don't think I'll be able to fit in a workout today, so I may have to double up tomorrow.

This weekend was a lot of fun, but very busy. We nixed the BBQ so I could get some rest, but it looks like this weekend may turn out to be more of the same! We'll see what happens! Hope everyone is having a happy Monday!
  • Cottage, thanks! Isn't he cute? For the first hour or so, he had this really confused expression on his face like "I'm not really sure what's going on." But he opened up and was singing and carrying on like crazy later on.

Busy day at work today, and I'm trying a new kickboxing class after work because it sounds like fun. Just thought I'd pop in and say hello to everyone!

Have a great day girls! Will check in later.

  • Today was the first day of school for Brian. I had no problem getting him to go to be on time last night. In fact he went early enough that I got to read more than one chapter of Harry Potter to him. I hope he likes his teacher. He actually will have three teachers each day so there is quite a bit of rotation. I'm going to try to see if I can pick him up at his afterschool rather than his dad since that is always fun.

No activities tonight so it should be pretty relaxed.
  • Hi Girls

It's been a while since I reported in. I am glad to see everyone is doing great. I figured I would start checking in more often, especially since I will be needing some support :hugs: . My husband has decided to go back on SBD and to help him out and be the "supportive wife", I will be going on Ph 1 w/him. I figured I did gain 2lbs in the last month so it won't hurt. We started this morning and it's so far been good just like riding a bicycle.

Well, again glad to see everyone is doing great. Gotta get back to work, chat with you all later.
  • I'm always late, but geez. Most people get to it before I do. I'll say hi, Motivated! Welcome back!

I forget how once the summer ends, everything goes back to normal and no one's around.

Had a fabulous recipe that I'm posting in the Ph2 entrees but had to post it here too. SO yummy.

    Tortellini en Brodo

9 oz Whole Wheat 3 Cheese Tortellini
    2 & 3/4 C. vegetable broth
    1/4 t. black pepper
    1/2 t. crushed red pepper
5 oz bagged fresh baby spinach
    1 cup chopped tomato
    Parmesan cheese (optional)

Bring broth, black pepper, and red pepper to a boil. Cook pasta according to directions. Remove from heat; stir in spinach until wilted. Stir in chopped tomato. Divide into 4 bowls. Top with parmesan cheese, if preferred.

It's so good! Just thought I'd share.

Hope everyone's having a good night.
