Some good tools to keep you focused

  • Sometimes my mind plays games on me and I still see myself at my highest weight, even though I've lost 55 pounds.

Here are two tools you I've used to help keep me motivated and focused (especially if you think you haven't come as far as you would have liked to come):

    1. Put on one of your biggest pair of jeans (I hope you kept one pair) and take a good hard look in the mirror - I'll bet there's room for a child to fit in there with you!

    2. Go to the supermarket and put two 20-lb and one 10-lb bag of rice on the floor. Now try to pick it up and carry it up and down the aisle a few times. How do you feel?

After huffing and puffing (and making a spectacle of myself), I told myself, "You used to carry that weight ALL THE TIME!"
  • bethel - those are great ideas.

I can just imagine the looks in the grocery store. I don't embarass easily so that is something I will definitely try.

    Thanks.
  • That is just too true. I've lost 45 and I just can't imagine picking something up that weighs that much and just carrying it around with me. Amazing. I like to keep two pictures close by when i feel like I'm not getting anywhere. I have one of when I weighed my heaviest and one of me now. I also pull out the pair of jeans I haven't been able to wear in 10 years and slip them on. Okay...funny story sort of. I am so sick of my clothes being too big. So, to go out Saturday night with my kids and boyfriend, i finally fit into an old pair of jr.s 13 size jeans. These are from the 90's. I got up to go to the bathroom and when i came back my boyfriend said, "I haven't seen stone washed jeans in forever". I was actually slightly embarressed because these jeans are sooooo out of date. Peg legs with zippers at the ankles to make them tighter...and stone washed. But i just smiled and said, "they'll come back in style....everything comes back in style eventually". lol. I don't care that they were out of style. I fit in them and that's all that matters. I've had them jeans packed up for almost 10 years. I am going to wear them occassionally...until they get too big. Then I may just have to donate them to Goodwill.
