Just joined and looking for encouragement

  • Hi,

I've been browsing for a little while and this looks like a great place to come for support and encouragement. I'm in awe of all those positive results on your tickers!

In October last year I was at the heaviest I've ever been - 225 lb - after putting on almost 50 lb in a record amount of time (6 months).
I managed to stop the weight coming on, but haven't managed to actually shed more than 3 lb of it, despite really cutting down on my bad habits (alcohol and potato chips).

I really want to get rid of the weight, especially because of all the health problems I have developed: high blood pressure (I never had high BP before), skin rashes, breathlessness and general tiredness and lack of energy.

I've taken some steps already, seen my doctor, signed up here and reduced alcohol intake to 3 glasses of wine a week. I'm avoiding fatty foods and eating plenty of vegetables. And today I vowed to start getting fit again by taking a 30 minute walk every day.

I have been heavy all my life, but I never thought I would reach a BMI of 36.
I recognise I have episodes of binge eating (although I do try to limit and control them) and really want to stop that behaviour. They mostly occur when I arrive home after work, so I'm trying to build in an extra "meal" around 4pm to balance my day better. So far that has helped stop the bingeing.

Anyway, it's nice to meet you all. I hope I can stick to it and am looking forward to seeing my ticker move soon!

  • helloo^^
    welcome here..
    i couldn't help but notice you're from belgium too:P
anyway, great start dropping alochol and potato chips and starting to walk 30 minutes every day! in 1 or 2 weeks, if you keep doing it, i'm sure you'll be able to see a change^^ ooh, and eat fruit, it's delicious and it'll give you more energy^^
    anyway, good luck!
  • Hi Laetj!

Thanks for the welcome! Wow, funny that you're from Belgium too, there can't be too many of us around! Aren't you sick and tired of this crappy weather? LOL!

I'm not a big fruit eater because I'm allergic to apples and pears, but I love all the expensive fruits, like strawberries, cherries, raspberries, passion fruit and melon
It's true I have to get into the habit of buying them more often and taking them to work with me.
Do bananas count as fruit or are they too full of calories?
  • Welcome, welcome! Sounds like you have the desire to make lifestyle changes that will help you along your way! Keep up the great work - keep the big picture in mind - and you'll get far!

  • Hi All! My name is Kathy and I've just started Metabollic Research Center. So far it is working great and it is something I can stick with. I was on Pre-Conditioning for 1 week and then started my Program and have been doing it almost 2 weeks. I'm down 13 pounds. I started with 72 to lose. I know it's not going to be easy, but, I'll do it! Wish me luck and give me encouraging words if possible!
  • heey, sorry it took me so long to respond >_<
anyway, yea the weather could've been better, i'm currently doing a joggingprogram(of evy gruyaert or something) and the bad weather is making it hard to do it <_<'
ooh i'm sorry bout the allergie. haha i love the expensive fruits too but they're so yummy xD
well bananas do count as fruits, but i wouldn't eat them that often. they're about 124 kcal(i read somewhere) so it's even better to eat 200 gr of strawberries!
