i havent lost that much weight but i dont feel any different and i dont think i look different, a couple of people have said my face looks thinner tho.
the real question im asking here is how much weight had you lost before you noticed a change?
some people say u dont notice the change yourself as much as others see it?
Welcome FlabbyHarry! This is a sticky subject with me. It took 50+lbs.
But, I have since lost 79lbs, got new glasses, new haircut, new clothes and NO ONE has said anything!!! SO......I have come to the realization that either people don't care, they just don't pay attention, they are afraid to say anything in hopes that they don't offend, OR they are just flat out jealous.
Who knows.....
A few years ago, I took dieting too far and looked like a skeleton-at the time, I didn't think I looked or felt different but looking back now I certainly did look different (and not in a good way!)
It will probably take a while for you to notice any change-that's why I think it's important to take photos to compare.
I haven't noticed any change in my clothes and nobody has said anything, but I've not lost that much weight. I have a lot of weight to lose, so it will probably take people awhile to notice I am less fat. People sometimes just see fat and not always to different degrees. I think my face is a bit thinner, but not much. I have noticed more important changes other places though. I feel better and I have more stamina. I have been able to do a couple of things that were hard to do before I started exercising.
It took about 25-35 lbs for people to notice on me. Of course I was waaay heavier then you are. I'm sure at your weight it's a whole other matter.
At first it was things like, "Wow. You look really good." They couldn't quite figure out why I looked better. At the 40 lb mark the comments increased, by 50 lbs almost every one said something. By 60-75 lbs there was the I'm melting away comments and the incredible shrinking woman comments. After that there was not one person who didn't notice my weight. Somewhere around the 110 lb and higher mark there were people who didn't recognize me. Many, MANY people. Very odd thing.
It also helped when I made a change in clothing. The more fitted the clothing, the more the weightloss was noticed.
I still don't see it most of the time. Sometimes I think I see a slight difference but more often, I'll think, this is all the difference a 30 pound loss made? Especially because that is about half my goal and I feel like there's much more than another 30 still to lose. I've seen the difference on the scale, in my clothes...people started commenting at 10 pounds about the weight loss. One neighborhood storeowner blurted out "what's going on with you, you've lost so much weight", fearful that I was sick or something. The other day my boss made a remark that I was "wasting away to nothing." At 170 pounds with a gut and an arse??? Hardly.
I'm not in danger of obsessing myself into an eating disorder (I like eating and keeping it down) but I can understand better now how people can have such a different perception of their bodies than other people do that it could lead them into extreme territory. You can be looking at something and your mind convinces you of something else.
I have lost 24 lbs. - almost half of what I need to loose. Nobody has said anything. I can't tell much difference. My clothes are just a bit looser and when I had my hair cut the other day, my face looked a little smaller in the mirror. Seems like not much difference, considering the effort expended.
I was a lot heavier to start with. I noticed a little difference after losing about 10 lbs (my tummy didn't feel as big). It was after losing the first 30 lbs. that others were able to see a difference.
Hmmm... contrary to most of the people posting, I noticed a change pretty quickly. I could tell I was thinner after the first five pounds. Now that I'm about 10 lbs down, I can really notice a difference. My waist is definitely thinner, clothes fit better, I can wear smaller sizes, and I have less fat under my chin.
I think that lifting weights has really helped me see a difference quicker because I can tell I have a lot more tone in my body, even where I'm not thinner.
I've lost 26 lbs and I've only just started noticing a difference. Noone has said anything though (which is very frustrating!) I agree with Janny O on that. But after 6 lbs I really wouldn't expect you have noticed a difference yet.
Well I think you all look fantastic. Especially Janny's new hair and glasses. I love it.
I always get comments after the first 5lb--I think weight comes off my face first so its easier to notice.
I also wonder whether your social milieu makes a difference. To those of you who have received no comments: are most of your friends and family overweight also?
I'm about your height...slightly shorter...but I was a lot heavier than you starting out. I started at 153.5 and it wasn't until I was down 10-15 that I started noticing in my clothes. I didn't start noticing it in my appearance until at least 20 lbs. And it wasn't until about 25 lbs that other people said something...though even then it was only one person. Now that I'm down 36 a few people have commented.
Remember I was a lot heavier than you starting out though and I think it takes longer to notice when you have more weight on. I remember when I was younger and went from 125 down to 115 EVERYONE noticed and that was only 10 lbs.
