Default Birthdays = Disaster

I'm not sure if I'm posting this thread in the right section I am sort of newish to this website if I'm not I'm sorry.

So I am just wondering if this is the same for everyone I personally am a calorie counter but I find all the time that if I screw up a little bit I screw up a lot.

Last night was a close friend of mines birthday party and there was this incredible dinner and I went to and this fabulous homemade decadent raspberry dark chocolate birthday cake. Extremely delicious. Well I am a calorie counter and I was well within my range before the cake came out and I figured if I just have a tiny piece I would still be OK maybe over my 1400 calories by 100 calories but not too bad no lasting damage. Anyway, that one tiny piece turned was followed by another big piece and suddenly I felt totally out of control. When I got home I would up eating so much random food and I didn't go for my workout because I felt so stuffed. I calculated all the food I had consumed and yesterday I ate 2,483 calories!!!

It wasn't just the cake either when I got home I ate a slice of whole wheat toasted loaded with low fat cream cheese, a spoonful of pure almond butter, and a granola bar!!!

Does anyone else have this problem? How do you deal with it? Do you think it's best I just avoid all sweets?

For reference this happens about once every week or two. Sometimes triggered by other things but mostly by screwing up on diet usually when I'm really upset I can't eat at all but sometimes stress will bring on the food. I've always been a runner though so the pounds haven't creeped on that badly I am only 140 which isn't bad but hardly ideal and I think my weight is really a problem I need to nip in the bud you know.

Well, you know the predictable bit - 140lbs is fine for your height, and 110lbs would put you if not underweight, then close.

I'm shooting for the same kinda thing, but that doesnt mean I don't care enough to point it out.

On the eating...yes, hear you on that one. Boring but - you need to find alternatives to helping you with stress. Either just sitting the feelings out, or some other kind of theraputic release. If its an ongoing issue, have you considered professional help?

It's really hard to control eating when you're out with your friends.. It's mostly the social pressure more than the appealing food itself. Please share any techniques you may have to overcome a social situation like this.

I'm also a calorie counter. I've also screwed up a lot after I screwed up a little bit. I've thought "Well, I went over my calorie limit so I might as well just keep eating".

Birthdays are tough for me. If it's a co-worker's bithday then someone at work buys a cake. If it's a friend's birthday they want to go out to dinner. If it's family member, then another family member has bought them a large cake and they offer some to me.

I've also had one small piece of cake turn into another larger piece, then another......

I know what it's like to decide to skip your workout because you feel stuffed.

My suggestion is not to avoid all sweets, because that could trigger a binge. Eat sweets in moderation. Chewing sugarless gum helps me a lot.

As CousinRockingChair pointed out, 140 is a good, healthy weight for your height, so it's ok that you're that weight.
