Smile Need Phase 2 advice!

Well, I was all excited about getting to start Phase 1. Now I read the diabetics should start with P2. (I was diagnosed T2 about 2 months ago) Does anyone have any advice? Will I still lose, I know just not as fast. I wouldn't think that P1 would be that bad for people w diabeties since, you do eat things with SOME carbs in them. I really need some encouragement. DH and I are planning to start this on Monday. I have been doing alot of research this week about the whole SB. The first time we got burnt out really quickly and did not stick with it.

If anyone can offer some tips on how many carbs to start with at first, since I will skip P1, I would really appreciate it. Really, any advice at all would be great!

Thanks!

-Nella

Nella, I don't have any advice as I have no experience with diabetes, but I wanted to say hello and that it's nice that you've joined us! I'm sure someone will be able to help with your questions.

Hi and welcome!

Do you remember where you read or heard that diabetics should start with Phase 2? Have you talked to your doctor about this? I just looked at some of my SB books and it didn't mention anything about this--even in the chapter about diabetes.

I had seen it on a webiste, not sure where. I didn't find it in my book either. I think I will just start with Phase 1 anyway. I don't think it would hurt anything. I am really pre-diabetic, my dr just doesn't believe in that term.
Thanks for the help!

My neighbor has diabetes, and her doctor had her start with PhaseII. I'm not sure why, but she mentioned that to me when I was on Phase I.

I have heard it too... from the good Doc himself who is a cardiologist not a diabetic specialist.. Have you TALKED TO YOUR OWN DOCTOR?

i know some diabetics who did P1 under STRICT doctor supervision. i.e. daily office visit and check ins for two weeks..

it's about blood sugar drops and spikes...

truth is you need to not worry about how much weight you are going to lose and think about how if you get on phase 2 now in 3 months your BS numbers will be AWESOME... i know one man I work with who was doing SBD with me and was able to come off of his insulin.

my dad does a modified SBD under his doctors care and he is able to not take insulin just Byetta....

i can PROMISE you that if you do P2 the way it's intended you WILL lose weight but more importantly you will feel better.

I was diagnosed last january (2006) with metabolic syndrome and i was borderline EVERYTHING 9 months after starting SBD everything is normal. I take no medications now.... my doctor is thrilled.

call your primary care doc and ask if you can do phase 1 and if NOT then do phase 2

the thing is phase 1 now includes beans and dairy that it did not in the first incarnation of the plan so it may be ok now for diabetics to do P1... but i don't know.

My dr actually recommend SB several months ago but, i couldn't stick with it. I am considered pre-diabetic so, I don't think that P1 would hurt me. I am checking my blood sugars only one time a day per my dr's instructions. So, I don't think that it is really that bad. I have decided to just go ahead and do P1.

Well, I've been T2 diabetic for about 2 years.
I did phase 1 just fine.
The first few days I had headaches unless I ate beans twice a day.
But that happens to nondiabetics too.
And my average fasting sugars went from 120-130 to 105-115.
So the sugar ups and downs go away and I feel even keeled now.

I agree that the plan is excellent for diabetics. My husband is T2 (even though he's thin!) and his numbers have been excellent, and he is still eating some of the starches he's used to that I'm not allowed to have. Don't know about Phase I though, but always a good idea to follow your doctor's advice.
