Default POINTS help for Chinese Food???

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help me out. Tonight a group of co-workers are going out for Chinese. I'll have about 11 points left for supper and I left my darn book at home. I know to stay away from deep fried food but I was wondering if I stick to chicken fried rice, and a mixed vegetable dish will I make out okay? It's the sauces that concern me.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Pam

Pam:

I am new to WW so all I can tell you is exactly what the book says... Vegetables w/ chicken (1 cup) 5pts..w/ beef (1 cup) 6pts...Chicken fried rice(1 cup) 8pts. And of course the Egg Drop soup(1 cup) 1 pt

I have my book right in front of me, so if there any other dishes you are wondering about PM me and I will be happy to look it up for you.

I would go with steamed rice instead of fried.

Chris, thank you so much. Info is greatly appreciated.

Bumby, thanks for the tip on the rice; I didn't realize chicken fried rice was high in points.

Thanks again ladies,

Pam

Have you discovered all the great internet resources for nutrition information? They go well beyond what is in the WW books.

Try www.dwlz.com for restaurant/fast food points. Try www.calorieking.com for general information on basic foods as well as brand-name items from the supermarket. This database also has restaurant/fast food/ethnic food listings.

Once you have the nutritional info, run it through your slider to get the points, or use this formula:

1. Start with calories
2. Subtract 10 x fiber grams (up to max of 4 grams)
3. Add 4 x fat grams
4. Divide total by 50 and round up

In Chinese restaurants I like:
egg drop soup 1 cup=1pt.
2 vegetable steamed dumplings=2pts.
1/2 cup white steamed rice=2-3pts.
steamed veggies and shrimp 2 cups=2points (tops--there isn't much shrimp)
So, for 8 points I can go out, enjoy my dinner, get full (which is really important to me) and stay on program.
Instead of using a sauce that is hard to calibrate, I use soy sauce which is free.
Hope this is helpful.
