how do you count when you have no idea?

  • my dh and I own a pizza shop (ahem....hence the extra poundage i carry).
he wanted me to come over and try some new products he's introducing.
    i had 2 slices of pizza, and a 1.5 " sliver of a sub.....
i have no idea of the nutritional info....so how do i count it?
    any suggestions?
    thanx

  • Look it up on dwlz.com or calorieking.com and figure that it's close enough.
  • Don't you have to pay for calorieking??
  • okie dokie....it's just that pizza varies so much....
Not for just looking up stuff. There is a subscription service with 'other' benefits though, and a community. But i just use the free look up calorie part.

  • Did your husband make the pizza and sub? Shouldn't he be able to tell you what ingredients he used? If you have that info, you should be able to figure out the calories (or least get pretty close).
  • I use FitDay to get a close as possible... then I guesstimate.

Not the BEST way, I admit, but seems to be working for me.
  • I use the USDA website..
    I love it..
    http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

    just another calorie counting suggestion..
the pizza is (Fast Food, Pizza Chain, 14" pizza, meat and vegetable topping, regular crust)
    - 332 cal a slice...
I would go with that.. it will be close..

  • I would think you could just use the 3FC data base to get something that is close . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/food-calorie-counts/ . . . not that I have anything against the other places mentioned; but since you are "here" why not use the resources available "here". Sometimes I wonder if anybody even knows that 3FC has a food data base?
  • hmmm what I do is I "dissect" everything in a meal, including sauces, oils, etc., and I "maximize" each calories (to prevent myself from eating more than necessary).... for instance, if I guess that the tomato sauce on one slice of pepperoni pizza is between 100~200 calories, just to be safe, I'd guess 200, instead of 100.... and so on. ^^
