Brand new to this....I need to be de-sugared

  • Today is the day for me. I don't want to look back only forward. I need to lose 20lbs by May. I could really use support for this goal. When I stress about things cookies and chocolate are all to soothing. Is there someone out there that can help me through these de-sugaring weeks. Thanks
  • Welcome! I'm new today, too. I had a gastric bypass back in '03. I've found that if I drink a protien shake, it takes care of the munchies. Make sure the protien you buy is very little or no carbs and sugar. I mix mine with coffee to cover the taste. Good luck. You can do it!
  • Hi and welcome. I am also a bad carb addict. I just stay away from anything with sugar and artificial sugars. If is not sweet in nature, fruit for example I don't eat it. If I have one piece of chocolate I eat the whole thing.
My daughter is 4 and it was just valentines day, there is candy in the house. If I feel like I might just take a bite, then I will throw it away before I have a chance. Good luck.
  • Thanks for the very fast reply. This is going to be hard but I just have to try. It's actually making me feel depressed to have gained this weight. I never let on to people that I have trouble coping with such things but inwardly I feel very stressed about this weight gain.
  • Are artifical sweetners a problem?

  • I love the protein shakes too. I mix mine in milk and it's really good. I like Optimum Nutrition's Chocolate one and Dymatize's Butter Cream Toffee *drool*

I usually have one with breakfast in the morning and then one at night a couple of hours before bed. That jolt of protein before bed lets my body know it doesn't have to starve while I sleep.

I drink Crystal Light too, which helps with any cravings, though they are few and far between now.
  • Hi again. Read this it is a great inspirational story:

  • What a great inspirational story.....thanks. Just makes me want to really try getting it right this time. Also, thanks for the site about sweetners. I always knew they were a problem. It's so hard getting around artificial sweetners when I am changing my eating habits. I really enjoy a cup of coffee I don't like that taste of it black.....not sure how to handle that one without splenda.
  • I'm a flavored coffee kind of person, but not a daily drinker. I usually get a Starbucks sugar free fat free cinnamon dolce latte once a week or every two weeks.

Hi Soggy...can either of these brands of protein shakes be purchased at regular grocery stores (Wal-Mart)? I like the convenience of protein shakes but haven't been real successful finding any that I can stand.

  • I am also a sugar addict. If I could I would eat candy all day everyday. I just went cold turkey. Its SOOO hard the first week. After that you won't even miss it. Today I pigged out on girlscout cookies.... and you know what? They weren't that great. Now sugar makes me feel gross... try drinking crystal light or diet teas when you feel like having sugar... that has worked for me! Good luck!
  • I am also new and a sugar addict. I am going to just go cold turkey, cause i have to get some of this weight off now fast!
  • But, doesn't all those protien weight loss shakes, starbucks sugar-free coffee, or crystal light have either artificial sweetners, which cause other problems, or sugar, which is loaded with carbs?

I am trying to go low carb. I hate unsweet tea or coffee, but I don't want to drink sugary drinks anymore. Aside from plain water, which I don't care for either, what can I drink? It's like you're damed if you do and you're damed if you don't......
