Pudding won't pudd
Hi --
I've tried making the Jello Instant sf /ff pudding with lf soy milk, following the package directions. I use a hand mixer to mix it, have left it overnight in the fridge to get cold, and I still have liquid. It's good as a smoothie, but it just isn't pudding. Am I doing something wrong? Does soy milk not work in pudding? Have you used skim milk successfully? I really want some pudding. Please help! |
When I've made it with skim, it pudds :) right up. I bet it's the soy milk...

Same here. I can even stir it (not shake or use a mixer) and it pudds. Boy, did we just learn a new word or what?? :D
I'll bet it's the soy, too. |
Me too. Skim always works, and if you whisk it really well, it only takes about 10 minutes to pudd.
 |
It's the soy! I've made pudding a bunch and every single time I use soy (no matter what flavor of pudding) it never pudds! I want to write jell-o and ask them why this is...But last time I poured the vanilla pudding in a glass, put some cinnamon and nutmeg on top and drank it!
[Edit: I just e-mailed Kraft, I'll let you know if I receive an answer as to why the pudding won't pudd!] |
yea i think its the soy too.....

Check this out (got it from soyfoods.com):
Instant Pudding 1 box instant pudding mix (4-serving size) 1-1/2 cups (not 2 cups) cold soy milk Follow directions on pudding box, substituting 1-1/2 cups soy milk for the dairy milk. (The pudding will not be as thick as if made with dairy milk.) Note: This makes a great dip for fruit, banana bread or graham crackers if you make the pudding with 2 cups of soy milk. ************************************************** ** And this from the Kraftfoods website: Q. Can I use Soy Milk instead of regular milk when I prepare JELL-O Pudding Products? A. Soy milk can be used to prepare some of our pudding products, but not all. We don't recommend using 100% soy milk when preparing the following: JELL-O Instant Pudding & Pie Filling JELL-O Cook 'n Serve Pudding & Pie Filling JELL-O No Bake Desserts However, using 50 percent Soy milk and 50 percent regular milk will yield acceptable results in the following: JELL-O Cook 'n Serve Pudding & Pie Filling |
Kathy, you are SO good at finding this stuff.
|
Yes you are, Kathy! I looked around the site and couldn't find anything about soy milk and their pudding products. Now I feel bad for e-mailing them about it. Oh welllll, at least now I know! :dizzy:

There was a question section, but I got to it thru Google. I just put "instant pudding soy milk" in the search box and came up with a lot of things. One of them was Kraft.

You guys are amazing!

Thank you, Monkeypoodle, for coining a new word. I work in the language field, and am always thrilled to witness the birth of a new word, especially one that respects the rules of "good" English. I'll have to try it out in Scrabble... Would the past participle be "pudded" or "pad"? ("I thought it would take 30 minutes, but after 10 my pudding had already pad .") It's almost enough to make me start eating pudding again!
By the way, did you know that in Britain pudding means dessert? Also, if you live somewhere you can buy Dr. Oetker products (we have them in Canada), the lite versions of their mousse mixes are quite good and pretty satisfying. (I don't have any on hand so can't give you the calorie count.) Bon Appétit! Carla |
