vickie, i'd love to get both slaw recipes. i'm looking forward to reading any other recipes you post, too.

kathy, congratulations on rejoining ww. you'll have a good loss this week no matter which plan you follow.

melissa, mexican food sounds good to me. i've actually been having polenta cakes made with jalapenos and chopped onion and some cayenne. do they count? dh is burned out on them.

we finished the tournament. i came in about middle of the pack. that's fantastic!!! i was the only female shooting. i kept up with the boys!!!!!

Katpo 05-28-2005 03:45 PM

Vickie, what a great idea! I never go to the library anymore; I buy books, get what I want out of them, then sell them on ebay. I'm sure I waste a lot of money like that, but every once in a while I get some I want to keep anyway.

What is my problem??? Why can't I figure out what to do??? This is ridiculous!

I think one problem is that I'm not hungry, so I have no idea how to get 22 points in a day. I mean, sure if I ate at Schlotzskys and then had a few cokes and then some ice cream, and then some chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes with gravy ... I could get there. I guess the low-fat mentality is so entrenched in my brain, and nothing sounds good, and I have no clue as to what to take for work.

The silliest thing is that I've done this for more than 2 years! I should KNOW what I'm doing, but I feel "new" all over again! Whatever!!!

Katpo 05-28-2005 03:53 PM

Sandra, woohoo! Keeping up with the boys is always a major accomplishment! Way to go!

I might try more polenta tomorrow, this time adding onion and jalapenos and probably Splenda too. It sure would be a great addition to a big pot of pinto beans!

ontarget 05-28-2005 05:10 PM

kathy, i also add some cayenne powder and salt. the jalapenos and cayenne give it a good kick. you're going to love it. this is my kind of eating.

WWEnthusiast 05-28-2005 05:13 PM

Kathy-glad you rejoined, but I sooooo understand how you feel. I can give you all sorts of suggestions but like me, know the drill. We just have to work it. If The Core list better suits your way of eating and lifestyle, then use the 35 WPA for the 'treats' you like. Then you dont have to even worry about the 22 pts target range.
You'll do great!! Only room for one resident nut :dizzy: on this board and that would be ME
Will you have your mind made up by tomorrow.....just remember what ever you do you can do for a week and switch, so that's a thought too.
Good Luck on the decision.

Vickie 05-28-2005 05:23 PM

Sandra, I've never tried the creamy one. I thought is sounded good so I printed it to try. The sweet and sour one is our old family recipe made into Core. I have to type that one in so it'll be a few minutes. Here is the creamy one.

Classic Creamy Slaw
Serves 6 (1/2 cup)

1/2 cup fat-free mayonnaise
2 tbsps white distilled vinegar
2 tbsps Splenda Granular
1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley or 1 tsp dried parsley flakes
3 cups purchased coleslaw mix

In a large bowl, combine mayonnaise, vinegar, Splenda, and parsley. Add
coleslaw mix. Mix well to combine.Cover and refrigerate for at least 30
minutes. Gently stir again just before serving.

Vickie 05-28-2005 05:24 PM

Sandra, Congratulations on your day. It's not easy to keep up with the boys! It also sounds from your menu like you had a great Core day. Bravo!

ontarget 05-28-2005 05:31 PM

vickie, thank you for the recipe. i also printed some of the recipes you've just added to the recipe board. thank you for those, too.

i am very pleased at how today went both shooting and eating. tomorrow will be a test. we're going to dinner at a friend's. it's going to be ww (flex) friendly. i'm taking the ww dreamcicle cake. it's 3 pts per serving. i started to make your chocolate eclairs, but i think i've made them before and taken them to this friend's. i've never made the dreamcicle cake. i'm just hoping i can handle eating only 1 serving--and that this meal won't trigger a binge. i'll definitely let ya'll know how tomorrow goes. this is going to be a big test for me.

Vickie 05-28-2005 05:37 PM

Vickie's Family Sweet and Sour Coleslaw

32 oz Slaw Mix (about 10 cups)
1 and 1/2 cups white distilled vinegar
1 cup canola oil
1 cup Splenda
1 medium yellow onion chopped fine
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons black pepper

Makes 20, 1/2 cup servings. If you ate every bit of the "juice" evenly divided, you'd get 2.4 teaspoons of oil in each serving. I never eat the juice, just what sticks to the coleslaw so I don't see it as a problem if you eat more than 1/2 cup a day. It is a fun way to get your veggies and healthy oil in. I tried reducing the oil even more (my family recipe called for MUCH more oil) but it didn't work. Hope you enjoy!

We like our coleslaw fine, so I buy the bag blends and then put the coleslaw and the onion into my food processor to make them very fine. After that, all you have to do is pour on the other ingredients and stir. I usually make the slaw at least 24 hours in advance of the first serving so it has time to marinate. It's very good for up to a week. I usually eat it until the date on the bag of the coleslaw mix.

akiss2you 05-28-2005 05:39 PM

Sandra go on with your bad self!!!!!! Congrats!

Kathy, it will be ok.. you have had a lot to worry about with your cute little pooch! Do you have your weight loss journals from flex and core to compare which one you lost more on? I have to be in a certain state of mind(what I call my health kick) to get restarted OP. It took me 18pounds of regaining to get back on... You have already started by going back since you know that helps you. Cheer up!!!!!

Vickie thanks for the cole slaw recipie, Im going to try it for our BBQ! I think I will have to take a tour of the library when I take the kids to story time.

My bestfriend came in to town today and a few of us went to TGI Fridays for drinks and all I had was some diet coke. That was a hard temptation to not get any food or drinks.

Does anyone know if all cocktail sauces are core?

Vickie 05-28-2005 05:45 PM

Anna, all brands of cocktail sauce were checked as Core in my CFC so I think you're good to go! I've had a couple of shrimp cocktails since I've been on Core. It helped me through some "appetizer moments". Congratulations on not eating at TGIF's. They really don't have a lot of healthy choices right now if you aren't on Atkins. This was a big NSV for you!

akiss2you 05-28-2005 05:53 PM

I am going to have shrimp cocktail for dinner tonight. So, Im glad I dont have to count points for the cocktail sauce. I think this has been the first time I have not cheated the entire time I have done WW. I feel like i'm eating healthier foods than I ever ate using the flex. I have so much more energy right now, Do you think its because of the low sugars and no greese.

I hope you are having a great day today. The apple recipie sounds really good.

akiss2you 05-28-2005 05:54 PM

Also, I cant believe that Fridays doesnt even have a fat free dressing... I loved going to Applebee's since they have the WW meals, but the one here closed for remodeling. What's a girl to do!!!!

ontarget 05-28-2005 05:58 PM

anna, i'm very impressed, girl. that took a lot of will power not to eat or drink non-core goodies. sounds like you've heard the proverbial "click."

vickie, thank you for the recipe. i printed it. it looks good. what does "nsv" mean? i feel sort of stupid here not knowing.

Vickie 05-28-2005 06:09 PM

Non-scale victory....you know, any weight related accomplishment that doesn't involve losing weight on the scale. It could be looser clothes, passing on bad food, planning meals, etc.

Don't feel stupid. I just had to ask Terry last week what LO meant in her daily menu. I should have been able to figure out that it meant leftover but for the life of me, I didn't know what it was!

akiss2you 05-28-2005 06:11 PM

yeah, I heard the click when I got shocked from seeing what I weighed!!!!!!!! I just wish I could get into exercise more. I dread it.

Katpo 05-28-2005 06:39 PM

Back from the grocery store! Boy, we sure have had some rain today! I guess the game was rained out completely, because the last time I tuned in to Fox, it was the Giants and Padres. What's up with that? GRRR!! I wanted some rain, but I also planned on watching a good game today! At least I can watch the Spurs/Suns game tonight (Go, SPURS!!)

I got some bay scallops at the store. They're baking in the oven right now with cajun seasoning sprinkled on top. I don't know what else I'll have (probably nothing) but they had samples at the store and they sure were good. I only got 3 large ones, which was like 1/3 pound.

Vickie 05-28-2005 06:50 PM

Kath, how about some lovely starch to go with it. Maybe some brown rice made cajun style? With a little healthy fat thrown in for some extra points. I'm trying to help you here!

We're still hoping for a game!

Katpo 05-28-2005 07:02 PM

 I appreciate the help! Actually I took them out of the oven and ate them right then.

It just started raining again. The office might be two blocks away from the park, but my house is like 10 miles from it, however the whole area has had off and on rain all day. Maybe they'll keep trying but as far as I can tell from radar, they might as well just call it all off. :(

ontarget 05-28-2005 07:12 PM

nsv--i love it!!! thanks for clearing this up for me, vickie.

anna, i received my click with a slap, too. we'll get this weight off. looks like we weigh about the same. maybe we'll get to goal together.

dh has been asleep for about 2 hours. i just finished watching the larry king show with the american idol folks on it. i taped it earlier.

i have some banana pudding in the fridge. i'm thinking of that being my dinner. my eating is out of sync today. op but out of sync.

akiss2you 05-28-2005 07:33 PM

we will definitely get this weight off. I wish it could be off by july though! I hope I can keep this up and stay op. I have fallen off so much the last 6 months.

aghiowa 05-28-2005 08:07 PM

Hey everyone! I tried posting earlier, but my computer lost it. :(

I did fairly well with the graduation parties, but nibbled a bit at cake & chips.

I can feel where my eating is leading though, and it isn't good! I really need to avoid those BLT's (bites, licks and tastes). I don't want to put the weight back on. I think I'm subconsciously telling myself it's OK to cheat because I'm on maintenance. Maybe for the next week I'll eat ONLY Core food, and see if I can get back with the program. It'll be hard, because we're having our mini-vacation next Tuesday and Wednesday, but I think I'll try. Any words of encouragement anyone?

Angela

Katpo 05-28-2005 08:17 PM

Yes, a word of warning! I was almost where I wanted to be, and the BLT's got me! Of course I didn't gain all 30 pounds back, but I think the key is to never think you've "arrived." I cheated myself into a big gain and now look what happened! So, I think if you just tell yourself you're still losing, you'll be okay.

Vickie 05-28-2005 09:22 PM

Angela, I really like the idea you expressed some time ago. I think your idea to eat Core foods with some extra enhancements, like lowfat or full fat cheese and salad dressing was a good idea. I'd stay away from the junk and sugar as much as possible. I think sugar is danger! I believe that when I FINALLY get to goal, I'll have to still go to meetings every week or I'll slowly but surely gain it back. Another idea might be for you to eat Core food all week and allow yourself one day on the weekend off program where you can splurge either all day or at one meal. I believe you'll be ok. You're a strong woman and you have come this far!

aghiowa 05-28-2005 09:39 PM

Thanks guys. I know I need to be vigilant, or it'll creep back on. :nono: I like where I am and I want to stay there.

I wonder if the one day a week of non-Core eating would work better for me. I'll have to think about that.

I'm off to practice guitar now, then I have loads and loads of laundry to fold.

Angela

akiss2you 05-28-2005 09:46 PM

I think having one day a week would work great to maintain. On the Body For Life diet. You get one free day a week to eat whatever you want when your trying to lose the weight, so it should work to maintain. Try it for 1 week and see how you feel.

ontarget 05-28-2005 10:03 PM

anna, i have fallen off the wagon and been run over several times the past few months, too. and during all my weight-losing efforts i gained 15 more lbs. i'm working hard to make this time on core successful. we'll do it!

angela, this is a difficult time for you when in reality, it should be almost heaven. i understand what you're going through. i did the same thing when i made lifetime. i didn't find my happy medium and regained about 50 lbs. be careful.

akiss2you 05-28-2005 10:06 PM

im laughing on that one. We will do it though. I guess once you have a weight problem you will always have a problem. Then there are those who are just born thin and will always be thin... I sure got the wrong genes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ontarget 05-28-2005 10:23 PM

me, too. i think there was probably a mix up at the hospital, don't you? can we sue somebody?

septembersgoal 05-28-2005 10:30 PM

Hey ladies! I didn't do too well at the Mexican place tonight. I made the mistake of not eating anything prior to going other than a turkey sandwich, so I was starving by the time we got to the restaurant. My blood sugar had dropped, my hands were shaking and I had no self-control left. So there's that. But I did get fajitas, and although I ate the tortillas that was a better choice than a chimichanga (my other fav mexican food). And then they wanted to get ice cream afterwards. :( Oh well! I have to learn how to have self-control! Its so frustrating, but I know that I am the only one who can change it. I guess its just those "in the moment" decisions that I am so bad at. Anyway, enough whining. :^:

Anna, congrats on your nsv at TGIFridays. That really took a lot of control!

Angela, it sounds like you are being very mindful of what you eat. What if you ate one non-core item a day instead of an all non-core day? Or I like the idea you said before about eating core foods but using regular condiments. You may just have to try several different things!

Kathy, sorry about all of your rain!

Vickie, I was so glad you asked what LO meant, because I had no idea!

This morning when I weighed myself I was down 2 pounds...that probably won't stay true until official w/i of monday after the way I have eaten today. Oh well, maybe I can exercise and drink water like crazy tomorrow, and at least not gain. ;)

ontarget 05-28-2005 10:58 PM

melissa, sounds like you have a good plan tomorrow. let us know how you do.

Vickie 05-29-2005 09:23 AM

Good Morning Chicks! I won't be here long this morning because I have to get ready to go shopping with my Niece and my Sister. I already hit Fashion Bug and their clothes are terrible and cheap this year. I'll be going to my favorite plus size store, Catherines and also to the Avenue which I haven't been to in years. I really need some tops to get me through the summer. I'll be leaving here around 9:45 because my Niece has to be home by 3:30 to go to another party. I'm trying to convince her to stop for lunch but she is in power shopping mode. I guess I better bring some carrots with me!

Angela, I think the one day would be best for me if I were in your position. Eating non-Core foods every day would be a slippery slope for me. I think before I knew it, I would be eating non-Core foods more than Core foods!

Melissa, I'm sorry to hear that you had a tough dinner at the Mexican restaurant. I'm a firm believer in NOT letting myself get too hungry because I know that is when I have no self-control. As long as you hop right back on program, drink alot of water, and exercise a bit you should be ok. I'll have to practice what I preach today on my shopping trip.

Gotta get going. I decided that I'm not walking on the treadmill until later. Have a wonderful relaxing Sunday. I'll check in with all of you later.

Katpo 05-29-2005 10:06 AM

Happy shopping, Vickie! I hope you buy something pretty!

I'm waiting for DH and his friend to get here. He called at 8:45 and said they were two hours away. They sounded exhausted and said they didn't want to eat when they got here, just will go straight to bed. I think 26 hours of driving is insane, but they didn't want to stop halfway here. Anyway it'll give me a few hours to go to the store and figure out what we're going to eat tonight. I think we'll go out, but I might as well have a back-up plan too.

Everyone have a great day!

aghiowa 05-29-2005 10:16 AM

Good morning everyone! Vickie, I hope you find some beautiful clothes at a great bargain. :)

Sundays are hard, because we have church from 11 to 2, so I have to eat an early lunch, and I'm SO hungry by the time I get home. I have it planned pretty well today though, I think.

Gotta go pack up the diaper bag and get the girls dressed and prettied up. :D

Angela

septembersgoal 05-29-2005 11:51 AM

Morning chicks! Its been a pretty good day (in general) but not a good day for eating. Let's just say I had a bad breakfast. :( But it was good. Visited the church that Aaron is interviewing with this morning, and then got some breakfast. I need to go to the grocery store today but am almost afraid to with Memorial Day tomorrow. Maybe I'll just wait and go tomorrow. DH has to work an extra long shift tonight so we don't have plans to do much of anything with the rest of the day. Although I do have to clean out the refrigerator, from which a really terrible smell is coming. I don't know what has gone bad in there, but its really bad, whatever it is.

Sandra, I had a good plan, already messed it up. But I'm not worrying over it. No point. But I am planning on guzzling water, exercising, and not eating anything salty tonight (a.k.a popcorn!!). I always seem to eat a lot of salt the night before my "official" w/i.

Kathy, I can't believe your husband drives for so long like that. I would go nuts. I can barely handle a five-hour drive! :D

Vickie, good luck with your shopping today! I'm going to try to take your advice for today! Water and exercise, here I come!

Well I'm off to clean out the fridge and maybe take a little nap with DH?? See you all later!

Katpo 05-29-2005 02:08 PM

Well, they're finally here and messing up my house already! I guess it was nice while it lasted, but I'm glad he's home!

They're also messing up my plan ... they decided NOT to sleep but to watch TV instead. I went to Burger King and got them some food; and tonight I will grill if the weather holds up. I'm leaving now for the store to get things to cook.

Be back later!

ontarget 05-29-2005 02:22 PM

vickie, have fun shopping. do you have a lane bryant's near you? i got me some clothes there while we were in texas in april. we don't have a lane bryant's here in montana. wish we did.

kathy, i'll bet you're ready for dh to be home. sounds like you have a good evening planned.

angela, sundays have always been hard for me, too. i can't explain it. i used to think it was because i worked all week and the weekends gave me more time to eat. now i'm retired and i still have eating problems on sundays. weird, huh?

we're going to friends' tonight for dinner. she's making ww chicken enchiladas. i'm bringing a tossed salad, fruit salad, and ww dreamcicle cake. i'm going to have to count points tonight. my main goal is for this meal to be one meal only and not a trigger for overeating the next few days. right now, i'm doing well on core and want to keep it that way.

have a good day. i'll be back later.

melissa, i'm usually starved for something like popcorn the night before wi's. we're a lot alike, aren't we? i like your attitude. it doesn't do any good to fret about the past. it's the present we need to focus on.

septembersgoal 05-29-2005 02:48 PM

Kathy, sorry the guys messed up your plans...I can't imagine wanting to do anything besides sleep after driving 26 hours! Have fun grilling out tonight, that sounds like fun.

Sandra, Thanks for your encouragement. The meal you described sounds really yummy! And it doesn't sound like it should be too high in points. Enjoy yourself and try not to worry about all of that too much! Oh and I think that I forgot to congratulate you on your tournament results the other day. Way to keep up with the guys! ;)

I bought a "teach yourself to crochet" kit today and it is frustrating the heck out of me. I thought that it would be relatively easy but so far no good. A girl I work with has done it for quite some time though and said she would teach me. I guess I just need to wait until she can show me instead of trying to learn it from a book. They make it sound so easy! I think I would do much better to watch someone do it. Do any of you crochet? I want to learn how because I spend a lot of time waiting (for clients, etc) in my job. I thought at least I could do something productive with all of that waiting time. My best friend is having a baby in October and I wanted to learn before then so that I could make him or her something.
DH is asleep and I'm thinking of taking the pooch for a walk. We both need one. :D

ontarget 05-29-2005 03:38 PM

melissa, thank you for the compliments.

i had a blast yesterday and, hopefully, this "mock" tournament will get us all ready for the state outdoor championship june 11-12. it's going to be held near glacier park. dh and i are going to compete on the am of june 11 then be tourists up at glacier. we'll compete again on the 12th. my goal here is to set a new state record for women over 55. it's amazing, but being op helps with my shooting. i guess it's really not amazing. it's all part of self-esteem.

we watched a dvd yesterday called "what the bleep do we know?" it's not really a movie but a documentary about what an important part of what happens is caused by our minds. i have to admit we thought i'd rented a movie and were surprised--but--we liked it. it talks a lot about the power of positive thinking. there's one scene where the star (a lady) looks in the mirror and sees her hips as large. much larger than they actually are. the scene goes on to show how this false identification affects her. i wish some of you would watch this dvd and tell us what you think of it.

Katpo 05-29-2005 04:12 PM

Melissa, I have crocheted all my life. I can't knit anymore though; but actually prefer to crochet because I can keep the tension steady and it looks a lot better (IMO) than my knitting! Wait until she can show you. I can never pick up anything out of a book; my grandma taught me when I was about 6. I've made one of everything that you can possibly crochet and now I just stick to winter scarves for the little children at the night shelter. I try to make at least 25 each year to give them at Christmas. Since you never know who, what ages or sexes, etc. will be there over Christmastime, I have to make lots of pink/purple and also lots in blue/black. So far this year I only have the pinks started, but this fall when it starts cooling off I will be able to make one per evening.

Anyway, sorry to run off on a tangent like that! You'll figure it out soon and will enjoy it. It relaxes me a lot, unlike these &*($%^ potholders!

I got two nice ribeyes for the guys, and bought filet mignon for me. I'm going to bake some potatoes, make a salad, probably some corn on the cob ... and I think that's all. Oh and I got a box of roasted garlic Triscuits. I had to open them while putting away the groceries and managed to just eat *ONE* cracker before putting them in the pantry, but OMG they are awesome!! Six crackers (and they're a nice size) are 2 points so I think I'm keeping this for my snack for a while. If I add a wedge of light Laughing Cow cheese for another point, that's a 3 point snack that makes me think I'm really eating something bad!! They are THAT GOOD!!

Looks like rain -- at least the Rangers and White Sox are in the 7th so maybe they'll be able to finish out the game. I dearly love rain but not when my beloved Rangers get postponed!!
