  • I thought this would be a good topic to discuss.

Suggestions for CORE snacks - especially ones that you can keep at work in your desk, are what I'm looking for. At home it isn't such a problem, but here at work it is. The vending machines are filled with JUNK food!!! There isn't one thing that is CORE. For me, I have kept the snack size 94% FF popcorn, but would welcome any other suggestions . . . . for here at work or at home.
  • Except for bananas, all my snacks have to be refrigerated, but that keeps me from reaching constantly for them. Luckily the fridge isn't too far away from my desk.

    I've been eating:
    unsweetened applesauce
    FF/SF pudding
    SF jell-o
    carrot and celery sticks
    pickles and olives
    peaches, pears, and pineapple
deviled eggs made with FF miracle whip
fruit cup with melons, strawberries, grapes, etc.

Last night I had a piece of cheese toast and it was so good. I used FF cheese and Sara Lee Delightful bread, so the total was only .5 point out of my WPAs.
  • My snacks aren't really enticing to most, lol.. I like to snack on a slice of lean ham or sliced avocado, or make me a smoothie, or fresh fruit. I bought some sf/ff pudding today so that will be my after dinner snack tonight. Sorry I couldn't help more!
  • I'm not a weight watchers girl, but my snacks are still healthy and maybe you'll like them.

Just things like fruit as already mentioned. Apples, Pears etc you can keep with you on hand, strawberries, melons etc you'd have to keep in the fridge. Also, if you're an Aussie try Nestle Diet yogurt. You can either have it normal or freeze it. (I like it frozen best). I know that it's 1 WW point per 200gram tub because it's plastered all over the packaging lol. Hmmm...what else do i snack on? Oh yes, small multigrain roll filled with shredded lettuce and a little sweet chilli sauce. Also really finely sliced ham or turkey filled with beetroot and cucumber. I also like those Sakata rice crackers. They're only 400 calories for the entire packet, on row is 100 calories which if you have it with a little tomato is great for a snack. Cup-o-soups...great for when you need something warm and quick! if you wanted to make it a little more substantial but still calorie light, add some frozen peas, corn & carrot.

There are other things i snack on, but thats all i can think of offhand. Hope some of it fits your WW plan!

  • I really enjoy boston lettuce leaves wrapped around a slice of lean ham and sliced red pepper - delish!
  • When you say keep at your desk, are you referring to something you can put in there on Monday and still be able to eat on Friday? That one I would have to really think about since you have already mentioned popcorn. I usually "pack" a snack baggie every morning along with my water bottle. My favorite is boiled egg, cherry tomatoes and sometimes a couple of small dill pickles and apple slices. Sound like a meal but I don't get to eat until 1:00 so I usually need something around 11:00 to keep me until then. There always a baggie of crunchy veggies but I think someone mentioned them already. I have a weakness for those bags of trail mixes with the raisins and nuts but they are not core. Small amount wouldn't cost you too many points if it is not a danger food for you and you would get the benefits of the nuts which they say are very healthy.
  • I have been using fruit and veggis. I have also used 94% ff pop corn. I have been trying to avoid the snacks...because that is my weakness.

But I do enjoy sf/ff puddings. I buy the jello brand and bring them to work and keep them in the frig there. That way if I feel like a treat..i grab that. It does help!
  • You could make roasted garbanzo beans, they'll keep and they have a nice crunch to them. Drain and rinse a can of the beans, spray some Pam on a cookie sheet (that has a lip). Put the beans in there and sprinkle with some seasoning (whatever you like...taco, cajun, garlic salt, wasabi powder, etc.) then bake at 350 for 45 minutes, shaking the pan every 15 minutes. As long as you keep them in a covered container or baggie, they should last for at least a few days.

  • Any more suggestions? I need snacks that are egg, soy and aspartame FREE. We do have a small fridge at work too. But mostly I am looking for cruncy stuff right now.
  • Spryng---what is your receipe for smoothies?
    Mel
  • Sounds like popcorn will be your best bet if you want something crunchy, shelf stable, and fast! I just bought two boxes of Pop Secret 94% FF -- Kroger stores have them B1G1 right now.
  • I made those garbanzo beans
    they were excellent. Thanks

Unfortunately microwave popcorn has soy in it. I can't have anything with soy in it due to Conner being Allergic to soy and eggs. At least not till Conner is weaned and that would February at the earliest.
  • Darn it! I didn't know that about popcorn having soy in it. Hmmm ... back to the drawing board!
  • Mel, I slice up a banana and freeze it, then stick it in my blender with some ff milk, sliced straberries (or which every fruit you like) and blend until creamy and thick. Because the banana's are frozen you get the texture of a thick milk shake, I even bought some sugar free chocolate syrup (1 pt per 2 T) and add that every now and then and I really feel like I am getting a chocolate shake! But the regular smoothies I make just about everyday for breakfast. They are sooo good and healthy!
