My daughter and her husband live about 30 minutes west of Moore, OK. They are fine, but DD is feeling a little scared. She was home when the tornado hit Moore, and she watched it unfold on the local news. Needless to say, we are ready for them to get a new job assignment. I am so sad about the devastation in Moore; I am most upset about the school children. What a horror for those parents!

Rhonda, prayers for your family!

Tejas 05-20-2013 11:25 PM

So glad to hear that your family is fine...mine is too.

Did you see the graphic of the track of this storm and the 1999 one---almost the same. I just heard that storm went from no tornado to EF4 in 20 minutes!

Like the rest of you, it's the children that are so upsetting to me....some have been found..

Vickie 05-21-2013 10:29 AM

Good Morning Chicks!

Thanks for the info, Rhonda. That makes me decide to sign up for WW online. I'm not good about going to meeting so it would just be better for me to do online. I'm am SO much better when I track and am accountable. You are all better for me than any meeting I could go to.

Isn't the Moore story tragic? I feel so bad for them. I was anxious last night because it was all moving our way. We had really bad thunderstorms but nothing worse than that. The threat of tornadoes has been a lifelong stress for me.

Sandra, we all learned duck and cover but it sure wouldn't have helped those kids. They needed to be in a basement. Do all schools have basements?

Lots of appointments for us today. Final window measurements, window treatment lady, and a Sears repair. Started the day with a visit from our new heating and air conditioning company to learn that our old company sold us an oversized air conditioner and had it wired wrong. GEEZ. Who can you trust anymore?

Anywho....supposed to go see Ironman later. Have been trying to get there since is opened but haven't made it yet. We may just relax today when everyone leaves.

I think yesterday was just a recouperate day for me ..
Working hard today on my house & pool..The storm here left the
pool area a mess and the weeds are growing like crazy..

The OK news is horrible...Glad everyones family there is okay..

Vickie..I liked the new Ironman movie..enjoy..

I am back on Low Carb this week to see if I can get a few more pounds off..
To simplify I have decided to have leftovers for lunch everyday of whatever I had for dinner the night before ..Last night I grabbed a small low carb burger from Hardees so I got one for lunch today too..Maybe that will make planning easier.

ontarget 05-21-2013 01:49 PM

I'm upset, too. And, yes, duck and cover would have been useless. Where I was tutoring today, we dismissed at noon because storms are expected in our area around 2 pm. Scary.

Vickie, I don't know of basements in any Texas schools. Old school buildings sometimes had classrooms in a basement, but today's don't. They probably should. I told our dil today that I thought of her last night. She's principal of 4th-6th grades. There are over 600 children for her to watch over. I got to see her in action today. She handled the early dismissal very professionally. Everyone was calm and orderly. (Of course, the students were happy to get to go home early.)

Sloan, I am so glad your family is safe. Do you think they'll be moving soon?

Rhonda, we also heard that the tornado at Moore stayed on the ground around an hour. That's horrific!

Waiting on the next storm is nerve-wrecking. So far I've just had 12 points. I know eating doesn't help, but I tend to turn to food anyway. After 66 years, that's a hard habit to change.

sloanie 05-21-2013 07:35 PM

Sandra, there is talk of DD&SIL moving to Shreveport, LA in the future. Maybe by the end of 2013. It is only talk right now. We are ready for them to come home right now, as you can imagine.

Tejas 05-21-2013 09:25 PM

We drove about 30 miles east of here to see GK graduate out of PreK then came home. We hit bad rain, but got home before all H broke out. We had bad, noisy storms for a while. It has been quiet for hours but I just heard more thunder.

I'm not too nervous about storms when I'm at home, but I don't like to drive in them at all.

I was supposed to host the book club meeting here tonight but it was cancelled because our guest author didn't want to drive up here from Ft. Worth.

I could have gone downtown to a jazz club to hear a great band, but I'm just sitting at home. I'm going to sit in the hot tub and go to bed early. I'm really tired....probably free-floating anxiety from the news all around us.

My eating was totally disordered today, but we did go out for chicken enchiladas. I avoided the rice and ate only a part of the beans and the tortillas. But I drank all of the $2.00 Margarita. Should'a had 2 more!

Tejas 05-21-2013 10:21 PM

I just posted something from Slate.com on FB about where the killer tornados have been since 1950

nancy237 05-21-2013 10:46 PM

Went out on the lake this evening with some friends on their boat and the dogs..
I am keeping my son's dog right now..Perfect weather ...

They made something they called "train wreck" with avocado, black beans,
sour creme, & salsa all mixed together..very good..
I have done low carb today except for some of that on a tortilla..

Did some planning today and that helps me when I get worried about
the house, work & stuff..One thing at a time !!

Thunderstorm warnings for Middle Tennessee. I wish I were drinking $2 margaritas!

Vickie 05-22-2013 09:06 AM

Good Morning Chicks! It's still raining here but nothing worrisome. Going to have a slow, quiet start to my day then out for dinner at Wildfire, one of my favorite restaurants. Steak, au gratin potatoes, and an incredible beet salad with goat cheese. I'll try to practice moderation! Never been my forte though.

Light and love. Have a great day.

pam920 05-22-2013 09:12 AM

Happy Birthday Vickie. Hope you have a fun day. What are the plans?

Rhonda, so sorry about your dear friend. Hope your cousin is ok.

Nancy, that accident had to be so scary. I was in a terrible accident when I was 17. Glad you could be there for the little girl.

Sandra, when are you done with tutoring? Graduation is Friday here. My twin grandsons are graduating this year and my great granddaughter graduated from Kindergarden yesterday.

We had a freak wind storm pop up yesterday afternoon. Blew my flower pots over on the front porch and lot of branches down. The sky was so black and was sure a tornado was coming, but thankfully it passed over quickly. Our town has had many tornadoes so it scares me.

My eating is out of control and I'm thinking about low carb. I'm not a bread eater. What other foods do I eliminate?

Pam..you can find south beach and atkins list online
They allow different things in different stages...
Pasta is high carb, sweets..

When I do an extreme low carb week I eat cheese, meats, poultry, seafood, eggs, protein shakes made with almond milk, limited nuts, limited peanut buttter, low carb yogurt, veggies, salads, broth soups..

But this is the "Nancy" plan, so it probably doesn't match any official list ..

Hi Ladies:)

Well at 9 AM yesterday,I had an appointment with the retina specialist, and he told me that I had a old injury in my retina as there was a scar that was opening up again with the gel pulling away from the retina was making a hole. The doctor suggested that I have the lasers treatment as so I went into the room and had the surgery this morning. 3 bolts of lights in each side and I was finished. I was wearing sunglasses all afternoon even in my house. I just took them off now as the sun is not as strong as before.

He said I can go back to driving and all my usual activities tomorrow. Now that my eye are not dilated.

Had a wonderful night and had a great sleep so I was able to go to The church to lead the rosary but after the lights were turned on in the church for Mass I had to put my shades on. Was suppose to go out with Rita or Alice today but I declined the two invitations,as I like to rest my eyes for tomorrow as I have a busy day scheduled.

Thats all for now,I 'll get back to you guys tomorrow, and check up all you guys were up to. Sorry for being MIA.
