Good Morning Chickies:

I get the last and first award: I posted last last night and first this morning!

We went out to a friend's birthday party last night and much of the restraint I had been exercising went by the wayside! Oh well, I enjoyed every morsel of that lemon pound cake. The good part is that I didn't beg for a second piece!

I'm going to post an exercise challenge. It will be simple, so join me.

Have a great day!

Rhonda

Howdy Core folks!

As many a WWer before me, I've decided to switch from Flex to Core, at least for a little while. I've been working at figuring out the program since Saturday and am really enjoying it so far. I am finding it difficult to turn off the Points side of my brain, and turn on the part that says I don't have to eat something if I'm not hungry just because I need to use up my points. One thing I have found interesting is that I find I am eating a larger breakfast, medium lunch, and light dinner on Core, which is opposite from how it would work out on Flex - I would always have a small breakfast because I didn't want to use my points too early lest I be left with none later on (then I'd have too many in the evening and need to eat to use them all up).

So so far I'm finding it pretty intuitive and sort of reassuring... It feels a lot more "natural" than Flex does. At least, that's how I feel right now, coming off of 10 months on Flex and being very, very tired of counting every little thing.

So that's me...

Rhonda - yum, lemon pound cake! Lemony baked goods are my favorite. :T

Good Morning Ladies:)

Went to the doctors this morning, and had my annual physical. My EKG was excellent and than I asked him to be tested for pre diabetes,[glucose intolerances test]he told me thats ancient they have a new test for that called glycoslate hemoglobin instead. He is testing for the celiac disease along with my cholesterol. He told me that hes glad that I brought all those things up.

He told me that something must be wrong if you exercise regularly, drink the right amount of water and been dieting for 10 years you shouldn't be gaining weight like you have,at my age.The results we'll be back in 3 days.

RHONDA-Thanks for starting us up this week.Glad that you enjoyed your friend birthday party & didn't go back for seconds with that lemon pound cake.Thats a plus.I'll join you in the Exercising Challenge

SUITE-Welcome :welcome2: to this side of the board. I tried flex for 11 weeks and it didn't work for me, had to switch to the core and it worked.I'm a very slow loser, but find the core along watching my grain carbs are what putting the scale down for me.

Hello All,

A really quick post because DH has a dr apt this afternoon and we have to head out in a few minutes.

Did pretty crappy yesterday. We ate lunch/dinner so late that I wasn't hungry for supper but then got hungry and just munched the rest of the evening on stuff that wasn't good for me :o Well I'm counting it as a bye day since it was my birthday after all. I will start my week today! I started by walking the dog for 40 minutes :D We're both happier.

Rhonda - I'm going to join you on the challenge, and only one glass of wine and piece of cake with all the functions you went to, not too bad.

Judy - Welcome!

Maryanne - Hope the test results help you figure things out.

Well have a great day everyone

:hb: Donna!!

:welcome2: Suite (or is it Jamie? I haven't looked at your pics and blog yet, but I will.)

:crossed: Maryann

I lost my first pound on my way to losing one pound a week until Christmas.

sloanie 10-20-2008 01:47 PM

Hey chickies! Sounds like some were on the wagon and some were off this weekend! I was mostly on. It doesn't matter as long as we all get back on that wagon this week.

Rhonda-Have you tried knitting with the giant knitting needles? If your hands are not cooperating, they may work for you. I'm not sure of the number, but some of them are at least as big around as a nickel. They might be easier to hold, and you could use that really bulky yarn to make some awesome scarves. As I have been telling Donna, I'm almost finished with my sweater. When I get done, I'll try to post a pic.

BB-can't wait to hear what the doc says about you. I hope it's good!

Suite-welcome!!!!

GTG be a teacher. Have a great rest of the day!!!

suitejudyblueeyes 10-20-2008 04:12 PM

Maryann - Hope all those tests go well for you. The dr's right, you are doing everything you can, hope they find out what's causing the problems! I love Flex, and didn't leave it because it wasn't working for me, but because mentally I was going a bit batty with it!

Donna - Happy birthday! :celebrate:

Rhonda - either way, if you call me Suite or Judy or Jaime I will know who you're taking about! :)

Sloan - Congrats on the mostly on weekend. Weekends are tough.

I am going to have to do some thinking about Core snacks that aren't yogurt or cheese (I don't do dairy much, especially not ff dairy, bleh!). Hardboiled eggs and various fruit would be good, I don't like most raw veg without a dip of some kind (though I love any veg cooked)... I wonder if there is a Core bean dip recipe laying around somewhere? on Flex I would mostly do nuts or bars (like Odwalla or Luna), but neither of those are Core. I just had a couple of fig newtons as it was all I had within reach here at the office!

Donna, Happy birthday.
Hello to everyone.
I need help getting back on track. I think I am under the wagon and it is running me over.
I will be trying to post more and reading all your posts.
Have a great day every one.

Hi everyone. Been doing OK on plan - my problem is I didn't get around to journalling anything since Friday. I've been sticking to core, but I'd feel better about things if I had been writing them down. Wed is wi, I'm hoping for a loss this week after my gain.

Donna -- Happy Birthday. How was dh's appt? I hope he is healing well.

Maryann, did the dr test your thyroid levels also? I'm hypothyroid (underactive) and it can cause my metablosim to slow down so much I gain. Once its under control I do OK. The problem is that if my levels go off, I may be struggling for a while without knowing why. Let us know what the DR says. How is Leo? I hope he is still on cloud nine!!

Jamie - check out the recipes here. There are a lot of snack core foods/recipes. There is a couple of recipes for corn chips (made from corn meal and baked in the oven). Its a great snack with salsa. Also, you can make bean dip from any white bean, add spices, garlic and either your healthy oil or chicken stock for fully core. You can also toast/pan toast chickpeas for a crunchy snack. Then, there is always 94% ff popcorn. HTH! And WELCOME to the board.

Rhonda, congrats on the loss!!! Great job.

Well, go to get going. BBL.

twestra 10-20-2008 09:20 PM

Hi Rhonda, lemon pound cake sounds yummy. I just made a crustless strawberry pie and it's really good. It really gets rid of any sweet cravings you may have, and it's core!

:welcome3:Jaime! I've done flex in the past, but I hate counting points and I was always hungry. I love core. I was up to a 39 pound loss since starting in March, but I fell off the wagon a bit and am only up to almost 34 pounds, but it works is you follow the plan. Plus, you are eating pretty healthy as you are not saving points to eat junk food, or eating junk food to use up your points. When I was on flex I hated using my points for milk, fruit and veggies. With core, I don't have to count them (as long as I drink ff milk, which I do) so I find it a lot easier to get in all my healthy 8's. Glad to have you join our group!
There are tons of good core recipes here and all over the internet. Check the ones out here, and also just google "ww core recipes" or just plain "core recipes" and you will find a ton of them. FF/SF pudding is a great core snack, if your into sweet, the 94% ff popcorn is good if you want salty. I usually add my 2 tsp healthy oil to my popcorn and it's really good(I use canola oil on it). Polenta chips with salsa is also a great core snack, as long as your salsa is core. For veggie dip, you can take ff cottage cheese and add in either the powdered ranch dressing or italian dressing and blend it in a blender for a pretty good dip. I actually used some powdered ff ranch and also some bottled ff zesty italian and it wasn't too bad.

Maryanne, I hope they find out what the problem is. You should be losing if you are following the plan.

:bday2: Donna. I didn't realize it was your birthday yesterday. Hope you had a great day!

Sloanie !

Ann, your name says it all. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Paula, I need to start writing things down as well. I think I will have another loss this week, but I think the loss would be greater if I wrote things down for awhile, or at least used the ww online planner. I do better when I write it down, although since I spent so much time cooking this past weekend, I have so many good core things to eat that I had no problem sticking to it today, with the exception of a 1 point hamburger bun for my shredded chicken barbecue for lunch and also 1 point for some ff croutons on my salad.

I got in all my water, my milk, most my fruits & veggies and some whole grains today. I will make a smoothie shortly to get in the rest of my fruit and add my healthy oil to it.

ontarget 10-20-2008 11:17 PM

Happy birthday, Donna.

Hi, Chickies. Sorry I've been MIA. As you can guess I have been off program. I don't think I had a single op day last week. That said, I'm going to WW in the am but will not weigh. I'm using my pass. I will be op, though.

Rhonda, congratulations on losing that pound. A pound a week sounds very reasonable.

Got to go. I apologize for this being so short. I'll be back tomorrow.

blessedwithsarah 10-21-2008 07:17 AM

OK, just went to the online tools and logged food from Friday night through yesterday. I know I ate mostly core, could not remember most of it, but I did write down all the non core foods and my walking. I feel more in control already! Plus, now I'll write things down going forward.

TechAlum 10-21-2008 09:36 AM

Good Morning All,

Thanks for all the Happy Birthday wishes. Yesterday went pretty well, I didn't eat what was planned, but I did eat mostly core, so I'm happy. The dr's apt went OK he said everything looks good and to come back in 3-4 weeks. By then the wound should be mostly healed which will allow him to give the ok to go back to work and to the oncologist about starting chemo. So right now we're just in a holding pattern. He's doing great tho, he even put on real clothes to go out to eat on Sunday, although we decided no more sushi until he looses the bag probably in May or so, depending on when he start's and how long he has chemo.

Traicie - I'm going to go try the core pancakes for breakfast today. I bought the stuff a while ago but just haven't had a chance to make them.

Paula - I think I'm going to go searching for those polenta chips, along with the salsa I made it might be a good snack. (I know the salsa I made is technically not core but 1/3 c sugar over about 28 servings is negligible).

Sandra - Welcome back :dust: :dust: :dust:

Everyone else -

Have a great day everyone.

:woo:HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONNA:woo:

===============================================

Good Morning Ladies:)

Thanks for all your concerns about my health. Hope the doctor can find whats going on. He also told me that I must eat my healthy food in portion sizes,as we get older our bodies don't need the amount of food like we did when we were younger. So I'm going to buy one of those 3 section plates and eat off them until I can eye ball the correct amount.

Donna-Your going though so much these days, take care of yourself and try the best you can with eating & planing your menus.

RHONDA-Congrats on the lose of that pound One less for your Christmas Challenge.

SLOAN-Gee !! that wonderful that you stayed on the wagon.I did too except for my portion sizes, I guess that some thing I will have to practice to be perfect.I hope I get some sort of information why I not losing but gaining, other than portions.

JAIMIE-Thanks,I hope it just portions that doing me in. I like the core better as it more of a control woe than the flex plus I don't have to measure or weigh things but now,I guess thats going to be in the past for me if,because sometimes I can't relate if I full or not.

ANNE=Welcome:welcome2: to the thread.I'm sure you be on the wagon again. lots of support around here just stick with us.

PAULA-Good Luck on your Wed W-I. I still journal and I find that it helps me stay in control to some way,but the reals reason I journal if I gained I have something to go back on and see why.Happy to see you latest post that your more in control than before.

He checked my thyroid when I first started WW back in April and it was OK,so I didn't thing of asking him again. We are still in cloud 9,thanks but we still have to have a blood tested to make sure his red blood count is ok if not he has to have another transfusion to bring the count up,and than that will be that.

TRACIE-I'm not the perfect dieter but I follow it to the best of my ability and that what I told the doctor. He in return did the blood test for the two conditions. Hope there a answer to my questions.

SANDRA-Best of luck at WW and hopeful they will motivated you back on core program. Don't beat yourself up,as we all have times like these.
