Congratulations, Patti. This inspiration is exactly what I need right now, and I'm guessing others do, too. Thank you for posting this thread.

When I said on the weekly thread that I had regained 15 pounds, I meant that that's what I've regained since last winter. This time last summer I was weighing more than I am now. I have lost from 199.8 down to 180.0.

What I need to remember now when I step onto the scales is how good I felt last summer when I weighed 180.0. 180.0 is the same number on the scale now. There's just a different connotation with it when I'm "up" instead of "down." I need (and we all need) to remember that the number on the scales is just feedback.

The number on the scales does not determine who we are. We are still the same loving, caring, sweet, intelligent,__________, __________ people no matter what the scales say.

Let's take a minute or two to pat ourselves on our backs. Then let's get busy.

A former Weight Watcher leader once said, "There are only two reasons why people don't lose weight:

1. They don't know how.
2. They don't want to.

I need to work on the "wanting to."

Hi Patti:

My highest was about 211 and I lost down to 170 in 2003. So, that was 40 pounds. Since I know I can do it, I can do it again, and again.

I was about 180 last November, and, like Sandra, I have gained over the winter. I'm now about 190 and had set a goal, that I have to change, to be at 175 in a few weeks.

I have not lost hope, but I have become more lazy about exercise over the winter. I'm trying to get that motivation back because, BOY, did I feel and look good at 170.

Ideally, I would lose down to 140. I am actually going to try to get there during the next 12 months. All of that is doable, and I've declared that THIS is the year to do it.

I'm thinking about my current short-term goal, and will re-set it when I decide what I think is possible.

Rhonda, I like what you posted earlier about our possibly losing 1 pound per week. That would be 20 pounds off by Christmas. What do you think?

TechAlum 08-15-2007 07:18 PM

...since January I have lost 5.6 lbs.

start 233
current 227.4

ok, I thought I was doing better than that. I need to get on the stick!

Donna, I'm on that stick with you. I keep thinking about that "one pound per week." If I can keep myself satisfied with that and keep myself motivated, that's going to be wonderful.

Tejas 08-16-2007 08:24 AM

Well, what I understand is that to lose 1 pound a week you should cut 500 calories a day. That shouldn't be so hard. Obviously there is a limit to cutting...but, the average size woman doesn't NEED so many calories. I'm going to try to stick to 1200 a day for the rest of this month and see what happens.

I know that Core doesn't encourage counting calories, but I believe that I REALLY need to do that.

I've also read in Prevention Magazine that you should try to cut out 100 calories a day, and use an extra 100 calories a day. So that is about 2 points fewer a day to eat and 2 points more exercise. What should really be so hard about that?

I lost two pounds over two weeks then gained them back over FOUR days in New Mexico. I was actually being modest in my eating while away and was really irritated by the weight gain. I have now lost those two pounds again. So it has taken me 10 days to lose what it took four days to gain. It was NOT worth it.

You are right Sandra,,,when I think of all the times I have lost wieght and gained it ALL back PLUS more each summer I cringe...this summer I managed to keep the majority of it off!! (I think gaining 4.5 pounds this summer a victory!! ) I have been eating very healthily, and NO POTATO CHIPS at all! I had given myself permission to eat one bag while I was away..I walked down the chip aisle...my mouth hanging open. I said to Dh what kind do you want and he said...Oh I dont know if I want any......huh.......so I didnt get any either. I felt too guilty. When we did eat things that arnet *YOU* approved it was things we wouldnt make at home. We treated it like the *treat* it was. I think thats a good lesson to learn.

Well, girls, this is my 3rd attempt to post here. The previous 2 replies have gone into cyberspace. I"ll type quickly and to the point this time.

Rhonda, thank you for the information. You're right. We need to cut calories. I will set 20 pts per day instead of 24. Also, that way if I splurge, it won't be bad at all.

Patti, I applaud you for passing on those chips. Also, just think how far ahead you are this year. I am proud of you.

I officially weigh 179.8. Had wi this AM at WW. I'll use this weight as my base.

Rhonda, we may be in Texas earlier than anticipated this year. We're putting our home on the market Monday.

ontarget 08-16-2007 03:31 PM

Whew! That was mighty fast typing. I see the message made it. Life is good.

Tejas 08-16-2007 06:13 PM

yes, to be more specific, you have to get rid of 3500 calories a week, so that's 500 less a day...or 250 less a day and 250 more out through exercise.

If you just Google "lose one pound a week" you'll find interesting information, that I believe is trustworthy.

Patti...good for you and not buying the chips. I found it easier not to eat chips when I really thought about all the salt they normally have. Then, I just got out of the habit of eating them. That salt is soooo hard on the kidneys.

coco99 08-16-2007 06:28 PM

I think I will join here. But my goal will be 1/2 a pound a week.
That way if I dont do a pound. I wont feel so bad. And then I will get discouraged.
TEJAS I know CORE dont want you to count points. But that is what I am doing. Because I dont know when to stop eating. This way it does help with the portion control. Or at least it has helped me.
So will keep my fingers crossed for 1/2 a pound loss each week.
