Why ruin broccoli?!!

  • I was at the cheescake factory in Cleveland recently...I ordered a meal of grilled mahi mahi with broccoli. I was told the broccoli was steamed, so I assumed that I'd get nice green, fresh, natural broccoli. Instead, it came as something either cooked or drizzled in some sort of salty liquid. I'm not sure if it was salted butter or some sort of broth. Fresh broccoli would have tasted so much better. I couldn't even eat much of it.

Needless to say, they were also selling the grilled fish and broccoli meal with french fries. Seems kind of an odd pairing! I didn't get the fries. Fresh broccoli (when well cooked) is so sweet and delicious! I think it should be mentioned on the menu if their veggies are cooked in some sort of special liquid. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but when someone says steamed broccoli, I assume it's gonna be water-steamed broccoli!

Overall, probably kind of a stupid complaint, but I was sooo looking forward to some good broccoli and it made me sad!!!
  • I often steam my veggies in broth for the added flavor. Water is blah to me.
  • LOL - I know this isn't the direction this thread was supposed to go, but YUM! The idea of veggies steamed in broth sounds awesome - going to have to try that. Thanks, Susan!
  • I never assume anything in a restaurant. I always ask if I care about it. And even when you ask there is no way to be sure your server was knowledgeable and/or the chef did what you wanted. One of my friends will claim an allergy because that is the only way to get them to listen.
