Cottage Cheese?

  • Have any of you incorporated cottage cheese into your diet? It is supposed to be very good for you when you eat it just before bed time as it helps your body reset itself and promotes weight loss.

Any ideas? Have you read or heard this?
  • The weight lifting community LOVES cottage cheese. stumptuous.com has a page dedicated to cottage cheese.

I usually mix cottage cheese with yogurt when I eat it. You can also make cottage cheese pancakes with oatmeal which are quite good. (Recipe is at the stumptuous.com page)
  • I loovve cottage cheese. I eat it almost everyday, usually with fresh fruit, but sometimes i have it with frozen. I dont know about eating it before bed and whatnot, but it has a lot of protein and is a really filling snack.
  • The calcium in it would help you sleep and we lose better when we sleep well.
  • Thanks for pointing me to the cottage cheese page. Here is the pancake recipe:

    cottage cheese pancakes

This one is really delicious, especially with the addition of the recommended ingredients.

    2-3 beaten eggs
    1 cup cottage cheese
Honey or a couple of teaspoons of sugar, to taste (a banana will make it naturally sweeter)
    1 cup uncooked oatmeal

    Optional, highly recommended ingredients:
    banana
    a sprinkle of cinnamon
    a splash of vanilla

Grab your handy blender and dump the ingredients in, in the order they appear (otherwise the mixture will get all chunky). So, eggs in first, then start the blender. As it's blending, pour in the cottage cheese, then the banana if you're using it, then whatever sweeteners and spices you like, then the oatmeal. Once this is nicely blended, cook as you would pancakes, in a nonstick pan over medium-low heat. I love these plain or with fruit, but you can put syrup on them too, just like regular pancakes.
  • cottage cheese smoothie

Hello Krista, I absolutely love your website! I wanted to pass along this delicious cottage cheese smoothie recipe for your cottage cheese page. It's delicious and filling.....even my kids like it!

    In a blender combine:

1/2 cup of cottage cheese (low or nonfat)
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
1 cup of milk (low or nonfat)
1 scoop of protein powder (optional)
1 packet of Splenda or sweetner of choice

For those that use flax oil, you can add a tablespoon to this and it doesn't really change the taste. Blend for 1 to minutes, serve and enjoy!
  • one more....there are all from the website Stumptuous.

    middle eastern cottage cheese sandwich

1/2 lavash or whole wheat pita
    hummus
    cucumber slices
    tomato slices
salt, pepper, garlic powder, and olive oil
    cottage cheese

Slather your favorite hummus on the lavash (or pita if you prefer) and drizzle a little olive oil on top. Sprinkle kosher salt & fresh ground pepper & garlic powder on top. Add sliced cucumber & tomato. Glob cc in center and roll that bad boy up. Wow.

Adding a little dill and grilled vidalia onion slices might be good, too.
  • i love fat free cottage cheese! luv it!! and, i have found in the past, it does contribute to weight loss!! it does!! and its good for you! One think i've done, and this sounds gross, but it is yummy!! I mix it with tuna, spice it up with some garlic/pepper/salt..and man! it is yummy! especially in the summer, when you just want something light!!!
  • Dolly, that cottage cheese sandwich sounds interesting. I may try that as I just bought hummus yesterday from Costco.

I should also note that I only like low fat cottage cheese. For some reason, I don't like the fat free.
  • I prefer 1% cottage cheese, but can't find it as easily as I can fat-free or higher-fat cottage cheese.

I eat it plain with fruit and ground flaxseed or wheat germ for breakfast.

I wonder if those pancakes reheat nicely. Has anyone tried? I'd like to make a bunch on Sunday and use them for quick breakfasts all week long.

Man, there are some good-sounding recipes on here! Cottage cheese ... who would've guessed?
  • I much prefer the low-fat cottage cheese too, and I add a spoonful of DH's full fat yogurt. I eat it most days with fruit, though sometimes I make pancakes. I use a simple recipe for one -

    1/3 cup cottage cheese
1/3 cup egg whites (3 usually)
1/3 cup uncooked oatmeal (not instant)

Blend and thin with water until it's the consistency you like. I much prefer thin pancakes, and I usually get 2-3 pancakes out of this. Makes it seem like more that way too. I often used unsweetened applesauce as a topping.
  • I don't eat cottage cheese.. I don't care much for dairy. I've only just started eating yogurt since joining 3FC. Cheese is also a rarity but not totally out of the picture.
