boca burgers

  • I just moved to the UK from the USA and was wondering if there are any UK members out there that know of a British equivalent to Boca Burgers and Boca crumbles? I am a big fan of "soy meat" and was wondering if it was available here.
  • Hi Isly!

I have never had a boco burger and dont know exactly what it is, but I am guessing that it is a non meat, low fat burger?

OK, we have Quorn. It is great. I love it. There is one point per burger, and I think one per sausage (check that stat). They taste juicy, and meaty too. I think they are made from something called 'micro protein' which sounds awful, but it is fine. I think it might be based on mushrooms. Anyway, you can buy Quorn Burgers, Quorn Sausages, Quorn Pieces (great for stir frys, curries etc), and Quorn Cutlets (I have not tried them). I think maybe you can get Quorn Mince (Groundmeat in American). You will find the Quorn either in the freezers (burgers and sasauges) or in the cold cabinets for the other stuff. I shop in Sainsburys and they certainly stock it, but I am pretty sure other supermarkets will have it too.

    Hope this helps!
  • Hi there Isly!

I have just come back from 2 wonderful weeks in California and experienced Boca burgers. They are very yummy. Lilac has recommended Quorn and I would just like to add that Quorn burgers are very similar to Boca so you should enjoy them. Also, the Linda McCartney vegetarian range is very good.

I have a receipe for Shepherds Pie using Quorn if anyone wants it.
  • I would love the recipe for shepherds Pie!!! I haven't tried quorn yet but I did make tacos last night with Linda McCartney mince. they turned out very tasty!
