  • Apparently its a 'safe crash diet'
You can lose 'up to 2 dress sizes and 12lbs in two weeks'

"Kirsch calls this his ABCDEF diet. No Alcohol, no Bread, no Complex Carbs (no starch, so that includes carrots, potatoes, rice, pasta), no Dairy, no Extra sweets, no Fat, no Fruit. This means all I can eat is egg whites, chicken, turkey, fish and vegetables. That is it — all day, every day. Breakfast is the worst: an egg-white omelette (with vegetables and chicken, if I can stomach it) or nothing."

Now, what do you gurlies think?
Just another fad? will gain weight straight after stopping this food change?
or simular theory to a body builders diet?

I was thinking of giving it ago for a week or two as I start going to the gym more often and start lifting.
  • I think it would be so boring that I wouldn't last on it a week. I tried low carbing once and I managed to gain weight on it although DH lost loads (and he wasn't even trying to!)

No - not similar to a body builders' diet. Body builders/weight trainers normally eat a balanced diet with plenty of complex carbs including fruit but with extra lean protein. They do cut back in the weeks leading up to major competitions but on the whole it is very healthy.
  • *blush* Actually, thinking about it, my Sunday brunch is an egg white omlette, Mexican style, with sliced peppers and a little onion, garlic and green chili chopped in to it, served with a dollop of salsa. Its very nice but I wouldn't want to have to muck around making it every morning.
  • Uggg I wouldn't make it the the 1st Breakfast, Chicken and Veg at 5am!!!! no thanks.
  • Well if it's a models diet you'd have to include lots of cigs and possibly throwing up
  • Depends. If its the Kate Moss diet - other substances might also be involved.
  • well after doing that diet you might be thin but you'd be bored and unhappy so I'd slack it off tobe honest. i'd never stick to that
  • Boy, does that article about the so-called ABCDEF diet bring back memories. It is very, very close to a diet I followed for the better part of a year while in training at a gym.

The notable exceptions were that I could have a cup of coffee/tea with a small amount of milk (the only dairy allowed); didn't have to eat ONLY beween 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., could have diet soft drinks (tho' these were not encouraged) and was allowed one complex carb (oatmeal, brown rice, a white or sweet potato) per day, preferrably eaten before 2:00 p.m.

I essentially ate 5 meals a day consisting of lean, clean proteins, vegetables and salads. Two meals a day consisted of protein shakes.

I walked in that gym at 5'7" weighing 136 pounds. It wasn't very long before I weighed 120 pounds, dropped ten percentage points in body fat and had gained quite a bit of muscle. The weight really did fly off me.

    Fun times.

  • Just a though - before starting on a diet that completely restricts dairy, it might be a good idea to do some research as to what happens to your body if it is deprived of calcium. Its not so bad when you're young but there is a knock on effect in to old age when you get brittle bones.

If I was desperate to lose weight I'd try it but I'd add in the complex carbs and some low fat dairy.
  • A diet that says NO FAT is screaming at me to stay away.

Your hair will fall out, your nails will break, you will be deficient in fat-soluble vitamins... I could go on!

Plus if you go no fat for a fortnight, what do you think will happen on day 15??? CHIPS ANYONE??
  • Quote: CHIPS ANYONE??
    Yes, please!
  • Can I have curry sauce (small mild) with mine please?
  • Good God! No wonder naomi attacks her Personal Assistant! The poor girl - give her a chunk of chocolate now!!!
  • Isn't this just the awful Atkins diet??
  • I think there's less veg and more fat on Atkins
