Healthy Snacks for Kids??

  • Hey Ladies,

Well Summer is almost here and the kids will be out of school in a few days (9 school days left according to my eldest *smile*). I'm trying to get them off the junk food too (which will make both them and me healthier). So my question is, what do you feed your kids for a snack? I have all ready thought of fruit and veggies with dip and they like yogurt. But what else? It kinda needs to be quick so they can grab it (not something I have to cook) and portable because they are on the go. What do you feed your kids? The chips and cookies just have to go!

Also, any quick and easy breakfast ideas? My kids like cereal but not every day and get this...they don't like pancakes, waffles or french toast! (not really healthy anyway but I've never heard of such a thing).

BTW...my kids are 5 and 6 if this helps.

    Thanks in advance,

    Amber
  • Hi there, I make my son smoothies all the time, he has one every morning. In the blender, 1/2 banana, splash of soy milk ( or regular milk), big scoop of cottage cheese, big scoop of natural yogurt, maybe any extra fruit I have, blueberries and strawberries work well.
He loves them, and they do carry well in the car with a covered cup and straw. My son is 4.
  • boiled eggs
    jicama stix
ants on a log (celery stuffed with cream cheese or a LITTLE bit of peanut butter and sprinkled with raisins)
apple slices dipped in ground flaxseed mixed with cinnamon and dash of stevia
Add ground flaxseed to smoothies, over eggs, in yogurt, etc.
    bok choy ribs
"cookies" made from eggs & whey protein & fruit
    protein bars made from yam/whey protein/ground flaxseed/fruit
1/4 cup organic granola in the yogurt (granola is typically calorie dense - go easy on it!)
A few almonds (also calorie/fat dense - limit 'em!)

    HTH!
  • I believe that one of the truly great things about our world market today is fresh fruit.
How about orange or tangerine sections - I peel navel oranges, and put covered in the fridge. Navels are really sweet, and NO SEEDS.
