Switching "diets"

  • My dh has high blood pressure (under control with medication) and his meeting with a specialist basically went, "You need to lose weight and exercise more." The specialist gave more specific advice about diet, but the point is, I now have an "expert" to back up my attempts to get dh to eat healthier.

So, I'm adjusting our diet from the Canada Food Guide (which I was only following loosely) to the DASH Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension). It's not a big change for me, but I'm really looking forward to it. Lent starts on Wednesday, and I plan to limit meat (except fish) to Sundays.
  • Wow! I'm glad I used the calorie calculator. My husband would need more than double the calories that I would to maintain our current weights.

I always knew he needed more calories than me, but I never realized how much more. (No wonder women gain weight after marriage. We just can't keep up with those eating machines. )
