Brown Bagging

  • I'm in need of some creative brown bag ideas. I have access to a microwave and a 'fridge'. I prefer hot foods as they seem to make you feel satisfied.
  • How about:
... a sandwich and a Lipton Soup to Sip or Cup a Soup
    ...last night's leftovers
...a frozen low fat entree with string cheese and a fruit
...a homemade salad with the dressing in a seperate container and a heated chicken breast (grill a bunch at a time at home)
...make egg-free noodles and top with peas, tuna and lite cream soup
...a packet of oatmeal with skim milk along with some fruit

endless possiblities with both a mircowave and a fridge...
  • Ideal -- Those are great ideas... the egg-free noodles sound yummy ... I always bring leftovers with raw broccoli and a dip ... for snacks I have CC and frozen strawberries that I let thaw on the counter with splenda...
  • How about...

    - Whole wheat pita with shredded chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, onion, etc. Sometimes I'll add some LF dressing for flavor
    - Tuna fish sandwich with soup
    - Chicken breast & veggies
    - Lean Cusine every once & a while (if you like them)
    - I'm not sure if you have access to a toaster or not but if you do you could make a BLT & some soup.. one of my faves!
  • I'd keep a bottle of my favourite salad dressing in the fridge (labelled as mine). That's if you like salads, of course. Maybe you even could keep some fresh vegetables there, to make salads. Or at least a large bag of baby carrots for munching/snacking, especially if your coworkers bring free sweet goodies which you'd rather avoid.

If there is a freezer, perhaps you could store frozen foods that can be cooked using the microwave - either stuff you make at home in advance and then freeze, or bought items, like "ready to cook" chicken or something (just check the nutritional info and ingredients and make sure it's healthy and that you want to eat it).
  • Thank you for all your suggestions. My favorite thing to take to lunch is home-made soup. If you have any delicous recipes for soup send them my way> Thanks
  • I saw a recipe somewhere here for black bean soup made with salsa that sounded fab & easy. You might try doing a search for that if it sounds up your alley. If I ever get an actual working stove I'm going to try it (don't ask-you don't want to hear me rant, it's been 5 months)
  • Thank you Julia
I'll definitely do a search. Black bean soup is a personal favorite!
