  • I've always heard that drinking ice water burns calories, but I was never sure how true this was. I found this link which gives a pretty simplified answer to the question!

  • Hey Haleys,
Thanks for posting that, i'd heard that drinking ice water burns more calories than drinking warm water, and i'd even knew the reason why, what i didn't realize was how many calories were being burned. Thanks for the info.

  • Huh, that is pretty interesting. Who knew!!
  • I had heard that before and it's interesting to read the explanation of it. Thanks for sharing the link!

Now if only the "celery is a negative calorie food" theory was explained so clearly. Maybe it is! I'll go look in a minute .
  • I have a book somewhere on my bookshelves that focuses on flattening your stomach and one of the key elements that I remember is to drink ice cold water throughout the day because of the calories that it burns.

Now if I could just get myself in gear and actually do it.
  • RaeReid: any other tips on flattening your stomach from that book or could you give me the name of the book? i'm trying to get my tummy flat!
  • Ty for that now i know
  • The down side to cold water is its shock to your body. It's better for digestion if you don't drink cold water.

Cold water increasing metabolism is negligible unless all the other methods to increase metabolism are followed: eating healthy protein, fueling your body often, strength training, cardio, eating whole foods, fluctuating calories, healthy fats and complex carbs. It's the combination not the single method which works.

I know because I finally sweat upon exertion and doing cardio. I didn't when I first began because my metabolism was cr*p! I gained weight eating 2 meals a day! It isn't cr*p now!

I followed everything above for the past 6 months and it took most of that time to boost my metabolism to it's natural fat burning high.
  • I have always heard the theory...and since I drink 8 to 10 glasses of water a day I may as well make sure it is cold from now on! Thanks for the smile this brought to my face!!
  • Very interesting article indeed. Time to grab up some ice trays
  • I haven't read the article yet and I remember that Jackie Warner recommends drinking ice water (on her Work Out DVD) but I disgree with it. I read (long time ago) some article that stated very hot or icy food/fluids are not good for the stomach. Hence, I never drink ice water. I prefer my water at cold to room temperature.
  • Thanks for the link Haleys! I went and filled my water bottle up with cold water and ice cubes because I read that.
  • Here is my take on it....

Grab a bottle of cold/room temp. water and go out and walk a mile or more!

I think you will notice a difference much faster!
  • I had no idea that there was a "c" calories and a "C" Calories. lol. I was always wondering why some machines woud say I burned x amount of kcals.
  • Let me tell you something, chickies...

I didn't become obese by drinking warm water.

    OK? 'Nuff said.
