As it seems i’m the only one from Quebec on this forum, i’d like to have cultural exchange with you ladies and gents. If i say the word « poutine », you will think of the russian president.

Here in Quebec, « Poutine » refers to a meal that is engraved in Quebec’s culture for decades. It is made out of fries, covered with graded cheese and hot sauce.

It is darn good, but also partly responsible for my presence on the 100+ pounds thread.

So, l if you ever visit Quebec….you can have one, but be careful…really addictive ….. Check picture on the link below....

I've got one for you,Frenchiepolarbear,can you say Nachos,corn tortilla chips drenched in spicy cheese, jalapeno peppers, and you can have them plain or with your choise of shredded beef or chicken.Addicting.Do you have Mexican take out up there?

I know what poutine is!!!!! I would have to say it's one of the seven deadly sins along with deep fried cheese curds!!!

My dh (who is an American) makes fun of me b/c I love to put some sort of sauce on everything! I miss being asked "do you want gravy with that?"

I love Quebec. The culture is some of the best in the world! I always say to an American, if you want to do Europe cheap - go to Quebec City!!!I'd move there in a moment. I have no chance to practice my french here in Wisconsin!!!! C'est la vie!

ps.. is that a bottle of white vinegar I see in that picture!!! you can't ask for that down here state side!!!!!

There is also Poutine in Vancouver, it could definitely add to the waist-line. Most fast food places out here you can sub poutine for fries..

Pam - I don't know about anyone else, but we most definitely have Mexican food here, both restaurants, and fast food joints.

Pam - the nachos you described are good, but real mexican nachos are the best. fried corn tortilla halves (no tostitos please) layered with the following.... refried beans, beef or chicken, shredded cheddar cheese and jalapenos. baked in the oven until cheese is melted served with sour cream, guacamole, and very hot salsa.

@pam: Yes we do have gigantic Nacho plates here in Quebec...maybe the second reason why i'm on this forum ;o)

@Charbar: You are abseloutely right about life in Quebec. In fact, i cannot see myself living elsewhere. People are friendly and tolerant, healthcare is free; plenty of forests and mountains to escape from city life; If you ever visit old Montreal, similar to what you see in Quebec city, you may as whell get a little taste of Europe...

I look and instantly I start thinking how can I make that with less fat... I'm thinking baking the fries and then using low fat cheese and I'll use my mom's homemade hot sauce . I know it won't compare with yours but to me it looked pretty good and I want to try it. Thanks =)

You can get poutine everywhere here too. I've never heard of deep fried cheese curds, closest thing I've seen is deep-fried mozza sticks. I've never been any farther east than Winnipeg, but I grew up in the only officially French town in Alberta.

That looks yummy. Around here it would be fries with chili and cheese on them. I also had a salad with fries on it. They called it a seven layer salad and it had fries cheese and steak among other things.

This thread puts me in mind of the movie Fatso with Dom Deluise(SP?). Anyway the he is on a diet and he has his weight buddy from his weight watchers group over to help him through a rough time. They get to talking about food and devour everything in the house. It's a great movie. If you have not seen it you should rent it.

Fried cheese curds sounds good... but, again the closest I've seen is Mozza Sticks!

In Newfoundland, instead of the cheese... You have "Chips w/ Dressing & Gravy"... (french fries, stuffing & gravy) - that's one of the reasons I'm here... Whenever I go back to Newfoundland.. I have to get Wings & Chips w/ Dressing & Gravy like at least 3 times... mmmmmmmm....
