Need smoothie ideas

  • I asked for a got a Smoothie Maker (glorified blender) for Christmas. Now I need a list of stuff to pick and choose from to make Smoothies. Any suggestions???
  • I love to make tofu smoothies. However, since fruit is not allowed in Phase 1 .... it will depend what Phase you are in .

In my smoothies I would use: soft or medium tofu, strawberries or bananas Or both, i cup of water, and some crystal light. They turned out yummy!

I imagine you can do anything!
  • I guess in Phase 1 I could use milk, ice and some s/g flavorings, maybe toss in some yogurt or maybe some peanut butter? Then in Phases 2 & 3 I can add in fruit?

What kind of tofu do you get? I am not familiar with it other than pretty much avoiding it in the store.
  • Check out the protein shake in the Recipe Section. It would work. Of course you can add fruit in Phase II which opens up a whole new world of smoothies! Enjoy!
  • Try the sugar free syrups to add flavor to the smoothies in Phase I!

I make my smoothies with 1 cup of fat-free plain organic yogurt, 1 cup frozen berries (no sugar, of course...I like Wylan's), 2 Tbsp of SF syrup, 2 Tbsp ground flax seed, 1 scoop of protein powder, and a bit of FF milk to thin. Whirl and enjoy. Yum!
  • Which powder do you like to use?
  • I use whey or soy from the bulk food store. I'm in Canada so brand names won't help. Or just throw in a raw egg or some of those Eggbeaters.
  • How do the smoothies with tofu taste? Doens't the bean taste overwelm the flavor? Or does the fruit counter the bean flavor?

  • Eww raw eggs? No thanks!
  • Tofu is so mildly flavored that if you're using anything like vanilla or just fruits it will overwhelm the tofu. If you're in Phase 1 and want to make a peanut butter smoothie, you'll definitely have no problem. Usually for drinks and dips you'd want to use silken tofu, soft or medium. It usually comes in aseptic boxes like juice boxes, and doesn't need refrigeration until it's opened. Handy!

Raw eggs aren't that bad in smoothies or milkshakes - they make them very thick and creamy. Make sure you're comfortable with the egg source, though - salmonella is not an approved diet plan, as far as I know!

  • Here are some things I did in PI for smoothies. For P2, I'd just add fresh fruit:

dairy - one (or a combo) of the following - about a cup:
    l/f, f/f sbd-friendly Cottage cheese/plain yogurt / milk

    some ice (a handful - I know that's really precise ;-)

2 TB of your favorite s/f jello - strawberry banana always did the trick for me

1/2 cup of water (none if using only milk - or just skip if it's lose enough)

sweetner to taste if the jello isn't enough sweetner for you

the jello gives it a little consistency and if you use cottage cheese or yogurt, it will be nice and thick.
