Indian food on the Beach

  • Hi Ladies!

I'm new to the South Beach Diet. Day 2 of Phase 1!

I was wondering if anyone can recommend which Indian Food is allowed during phase 1?

    Thank you!
  • Indian food is kind of tricky. I bought a Indian cookbook and I have used some recipes but heavily modified. From reading the recipes in the book, there is some heavy use of butter as well as full fat yogurt and heavy cream. Your best bet would probably find some indian recipes and modify them.
  • :)
Thanks doll! That's a great idea.

I'm just concerned because I have to go out to lunch today w/coworkers who have their hearts set on Indian.

I guess the tandoori can't be too bad. : /
  • Yeah stick with tandoori and probably (sadly) anything without a sauce.
  • Welcome to The Beach. Yup, tandoori would be my selection too. Everything seems to be done in ghee. !
I love buttter chicken so don't tell me if you have it, OK?
  • I think Curried Chicken is probably OK. The recipe I have for it doesn't have any forbidden ingredients.... Some restaurants might use ghee in it, though, so you'd probably want to ask.
  • I hope it went well! Please tell us what you ended up having, unless it's likely to tempt Ruth.

Just try to ask if anything has sugar in it. The Ghee is not great, but I find that sugar seems to affect my progress much, much more than fats do. So I try very hard to avoid fats when I'm out, but if it comes down to a fat vs. sugar debate, fat always wins. That's just my $0.02.
  • Hi,

I ate the tandoori. Lots of it! I had a smidgen of of the tikka masala.

I also had some of the spinach paneer, salad, and a taste of rice and a small crumb of the bread.

I know I shouldn't have had the rice or bread - I'll just extend my phase 1 for another day or two.

It was yummy! Very hard not to have the rice and naan
  • By the way,

    Thank you for the welcome!
