New TODAY to South Beach

  • Couple of questions...
What's with the V8 - is it for nutritional value (can it be substituted with somethig else?) And does it have to be drank in the a.m.?
Also, what about sour cream? Can we have FF or low fat? I don't see it mentioned.
AND... when it comes to cheese - is FF better or worse than Low fat, or does it make a difference?
    Thanks
  • Welcome to The Beach.
First of all, do you have the Book? If not, be sure to check out the frequently asked questions, particularly the food list.
V8 is not necessary but is an option. Tomato juice is OK too. Drink it when you want it. FF sour cream is OK but be sure you stay in the dairy limit. FF or Low Fat for cheese is about the same thing.
  • Welcome to the Beach! Most of us use the lists of food to eat and foods to avoid in order to make up our own menu. Personally, I don't drink V8 but I do make sure to eat plenty of vegetables. It is recommended that you consume 1/2 cup of vegetables at breakfast, 2 cups at lunch, and 2 at dinner. I included some info below:

This breakdown is straight from the SB site:

    BREAKFAST
    Protein: Quantity is not limited.
    Vegetables: Minimum 1/2 cup.
Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)
Fat: 1 tsp mayonnaise or oil (optional)

SNACK: Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds.

    LUNCH
    Protein: Quantity is not limited.
    Vegetables: Minimum 2 cups.
Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)
Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise or oil

    SNACK
Snacks are required. Choose a protein, vegetable, fat-free plain yogurt, or nuts/seeds.

    DINNER
    Protein: Quantity is not limited.
    Vegetables: Minimum 2 cups.
Milk/Dairy: 2 cups allowed daily (including yogurt)
Fat: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise or oil

    DESSERT
Enjoy a Sweet Treat or any of the snack choices. (limit 75 calories)

    BEVERAGES
Diet, decaffeinated, sugar-free drinks are not limited. You can enjoy caffeinated coffee or diet sodas with caffeine added, but limit to 1 - 2 servings per day.
  • Thanks for your replys. I do have the book, but this info helps a lot too. I didn't see that in the book (at least what I've read so far) as far as minimums and maximums.
I want to do this right! I'm tired of being a fat chick!
  • Welcome to the Beach!
  • Hi & welcome, chickenlady!!
  • Welcome and hope you enjoy your time on the beach.
  • Hi, Chickenlady...welcome!

You may find that some FF dairy items have sugar in them as a substitute for the fat. You don't need to eat FF, just LF, so you may want to stick with that. Read the labels--it's the best way to take control of your weightloss!

The V-8 or tomato juice, I believe, is a substitute for the fruit juice that so many of us are used to drinking for breakfast. You don't have to have it at all if you don't want to.
