I'm considering ordering an elliptical from SmoothFitness.com. Has anyone ordered from them, and how was your experience?

I found that at amazon.com has some user reviews of their experience with smooth fitness HTH!

I didn't order from smooth fitness but I did get one from Nordic Track. I was happy with the experience and the product.

I recently purchased a $3000 treadmill and I did extensive research over three months. A website that I found particularly helpful was treadmilldoctor.com. Although you're looking for an eliptical, this web page can still be very helpful. The guy who maintains the site does maintenance on exercise equipment and gives a pretty decent description of the problems that he's encountered over the years for many different brand names.

Per a suggestion on his website, I bought a Bodyguard treadmill and I haven't had a problem and the machine it was just as he described it. Well built, low on the flashiness, but reliable and stable.

Be careful looking at/searching/reading "reviews" online for Smooth Fitness. Smooth operates under a couple of names (check treadmilldoctor.com for other names) and often times when you dig deep into the links you'll find that a lot of the links are sponsored by Smooth or its sister companies. In addition, they seemed to have a habit of leaving out any competitors whose machines consistently rate higher than theirs when they list reader reviews/customer experience, etc.

I know from my research that Smooth is now offering a lifetime warranty on its treadmills. You may want to check to see if this is the case for ellipticals. If so, read the VERY small print. Although it's a lifetime warranty they leave themselves plenty of room to squirm out if the warranty is much like the treadmills'.

Smooth operates only online, doesn't own any showrooms. At least they didn't as of about three months ago. I deleted them from my list of possibilities because I'd surely like to sample a machine that I"m spending thousands of dollars for before I agree to purchase. They seem to have a pretty aggressive marketing strategy to corner the online buying market for mid to high end exercise equipment.

One good thing that I liked about Smooth was the ability to custom build the extras for your machine. Although this option doesn't give you as much flexibility as they claim, you are able to choose among a couple of favorite features. (At least among the treadmills.)
