Another Beach Convert Wanting to Join In!

  • Hi there everyone.....

    My name's Paula and I was previously on the Atkins site until my doctor informed me early this summer that my cholesterol had shot up 120+ points in the past 8 months. Yikes!!! So, I went off Atkins and ended up gaining 20 pounds and feeling tired and generally sluggish for 12 out of 24 hours per day. (Cholesterol issues aside, I never felt better than when I was enjoying a low carb lifestyle!)

    Anyway, my doctor has now suggested moving over to the South Beach plan instead, so today I'm devoting one of the last days of my vacation to curling up with "the good book," and getting acquainted with the specifics of the plan.

    The daily postings on the other site really helped me more than I could have imaged when I started, and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone as the days roll by and the pounds melt off!!!

  • Welcome to the Beach, Paula. I had my cholesterol retested after one month on SBD and it had gone from 246 to 181. My doctor is thrilled.

    Make sure you read through the FAQs and the recipes. There is a lot of information here. The FAQs have the updated list of allowed foods that may not be in your book (such as bananas are allowed in Phase 2 now).

  • Welcome, Paula! I think you'll find that you will feel as good on SBD as you did on Atkins (maybe better!), but without the cholesterol issues.

    It's a great lifestyle! I know we have a bunch of others who were sent to SBD by their doctors after a cholesterol issue with Atkins...but I think they mainly lurk. If you create a post asking for their tips on the move and what they had to change in their thinking, I bet you'll get some replies that are helpful.

    One main thing is to stop worrying about the number of carbs. We don't count it at all. We just count serving sizes and make sure that we are eating good carbs. Much easier, IMHO.

  • Hello everyone I also want to join in this support group. This sounds like a good place to get support and in order to do well I need to get support from others and ideas. So hope you don't mind if I join in. I am also trying to keep my calorie tracked as well it can't hurt I figure. I was on the South Beach before and still follow a lot of the ideas behind it but added in a few too many breads lately. I have gained back 3 lbs. should I go back to phase one? or can I just start doing what I am suppose to for Phase 2? lET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD WHAT YOU THINK? tHANKS GOT TO GO OFF TO WORK!
