I've been reading this thread for sometime and figure it's time to join in.
My Dr. recently pushed me into a weight "management" group through the medical clinic I belong to. I am about 110 pounds overweight and have numerous health problems. It seems like everytime I see him he is putting me on some new medication for something. It's time to stop!! I'm so ready for this!!
The group I go to works on the exchange plan. I'm supposed to get 50% of my calories from carbs, 30% from fat & 20% from protein. This is so weird to me though. I tried Atkins some time ago, did ok for a couple of weeks but I am not much of a meat eater and couldn't stand to eat another piece. I really believe in low carb though. I know it's not for everybody, but for a certain type of person with certain medical conditions, it is what we need. I am most certainly insulin resistant (my Dr even has me on glucophage for it) and am a poster child for who should be on low carb. I guess I'm glad because I don't want to eat low carb but I just feel like it's not right for me. I enter my food into fitday and cringe when I see how many carbs I'm eating. Ok, I'm babbling now.
So....anybody else working on an exchange plan? I get 6 starch, 6 protein, 3 fruit, 3 veggies, 2 milk & 2 fat. It's supposed to work out to 1400 calories a day. So far I've lost 8 pounds (in 3 weeks) which I guess is pretty good but let's face it, it's mostly water.
Well, I guess I'll go get myself in the profile now.
