  • Whispers65 It may be that you are on the dreaded plateau. Curvynotlumpy who starts our thread each month let me know I was probably in one before. I had commented forever it seemed I was right at the edge of 50 pounds and it finally happened. Now I am so close to 60 but it seems our body really has to readjust to our eating less and not let us lose "too much." This is why even though I am not there yet I am hanging in and keeping my calories between 1500-1900 or so each day. I know eventually it will happen. I keep telling myself Christmas or New Years etc.. will come if I have lost weight or not. Do I want to be 264 then or 200 then?(actually 199). LOL

William Thanks! You are an awesome cheerleader yourself! Your comment made me smile!

RunningRedHead That is the million dollar question...Why do we stop measuring, weighing. etc... LOL I have lost in the past felt I looked OK and then let it all slide...we know how that ends!
  • Loganandlivsmom: It really is the million dollar question! I’ve also been trying to keep track of what foods trigger overeating or binge eating to see if that helps. You make a great point though in saying in the past you would weigh and track and feel great, and then slowly let it slip—no more!

Good morning and happy Friday, everybody!

Yeah it is truly weird to see how things work. I am up 4 lbs of water weight in 2 days, but it would take a month to lose the same weight. I don't get it some times. I know I am drinking tons of water. It is hot and humid. I was outside a lot yesterday though so I was expecting to be down at least some. I try and keep my calories around 1700. Yesterday was right at 1900. A couple days before it was 1500. I try to vary it a little bit each day. I tend to hang onto water easy though. Ugh. Always have. It does seem to be harder to lose weight these days though than ever before.

  • Good evening! It makes my heart sing to see the thread so active. July was very quiet and I was the quietest of all.

RunningRedHead: Welcome back! It's so good to have you checking in again. Win, lose, or plateau, you have a home here and we got your back! How is the teaching gig going? If I remember correctly, when last you checked in, you were just headed into the classroom.

whisper65: to our happy thread! Thanks for providing such a lovely and detailed introduction. I can relate in some ways. I work a lot as well, though not 60-80 hours and not in IT. My father passed in 2016 but up until then, my siblings and I cared for him. He was in Nebraska and we're spread out all over the country so we took turns going home to care for what he couldn't and provide company and comfort. Caretaking takes a lot of energy! I have nothing but admiration for anyone who does it either by choice or circumstance. While your retirement may not have happened the way you wanted to, I'm happy to hear that you are making the most of your time and investing in yourself. It sounds like you didn't have much time for that with your demanding work schedule.

I weigh daily myself though I'm not seeing the results you are. You're doing great! I'm also a walker but for years have tried to return to running. I need to lose some more weight first before I do as it is so hard on the joints. I mostly wog (walk-jog).

William47: I love hearing about your adventures and how happy you are! I do believe that Lo-KI (long I) is the plural of Loki. So let's see, love life is in order, dropped a bunch of weight, new bbq---you better better be careful or you're going to end up on a brochure promoting living your best life! You've worked so hard for this--enjoy every minute!

loganandlivsmom: You will be 60 pounds down before the New Year! You must be thrilled to be experiencing what your body can do with each passing pound.

It's been a long hot summer here in Northern California. Triple digits have been the norm and fires are out of control further up north (closer to the Oregon border) so we often have very hot and smoky days. Today was one of them. On the work front, I have several big projects that I've been working on which is one of the reasons I haven't been checking in. I'm once again in the unenviable position of hiring for a vacant position on my staff, and after 16 months of working remotely the university where I work is returning to in-person classes. I work in the University of California system so all the campuses are returning. We've been preparing for this since January so this wasn't a surprise. It's the ramp up and preparation for fall that is making. It's always somewhat chaotic but when 36,000 faculty, staff, and students will be returning to the physical campus at one time, it makes my head spin thinking about it on a daily basis.

Anyway, that's all for now. My goal is to check in here more often especially now that the chat has resumed to lively status! Wishing you all a peaceful good night.
  • Hi everyone!
I had checked in Monday night and wrote this long response. I saw it post and then it was gone when I checked in Tuesday. I saw someone post on another thread that the site had issues Monday night so at least I'm not losing it mentally (yet). LOL I am still up and down a bit each day. My calories are good so I know it's water weight, etc...When I hit 60 pounds you guys will know it.

Curvynotlumpy That was a great line "July was very quiet and I was the quietest of all." It sure sounds like you are super busy and have a lot of responsibility. Make sure you take care of yourself too!
  • Where is everyone? RunningRedHead , Whispers65, William, and Martine too! I hope all is well and we are all still plugging away...watching those calories and getting more activity-exercise...
I have good news to report, officially 60 pounds down this morning!! Basically this time a year ago I was 264.Now I am 203.8 meeting my August goal of 60. My goal is still to get out of the 200's and be 199 or less by December 31st.
  • Curvy: Thank you for the warm welcome back! Teaching is going well, navigating the pandemic has been interesting and sometimes frustrating, but rewarding. My college is also planning for unrestricted in-person classes. Teaching 90 students in a physical classroom is so much different than last year’s virtual classes. I’m sorry to hear you have to hire another staffer, that must be a stressful process.

Loganandlivsmom: I did the same thing that Monday, I thought I just logged off without submitting my post (wouldn’t be the first time!)—glad to hear I haven’t completely lost it! Congratulations on hitting the 60 pound down mark, that’s fantastic!!!

I’ve been lurking since my last post, but things have gotten a bit busy with the semester starting up and getting our house ready to sell. I don’t think I’ve been this sore since I was actually working out as often as I should

  • Good morning !

RunningRedHead: I hear you about in-person classes! We will have no physical distance or room capacity limits (other than the already set limits) when we return in the fall. as you prepare your house to sell. It's certainly a seller's market!

loganandlivsmom: Congratulations on meeting your 60 pound goal! I misread your previous post--I have no doubt you will be under 200 by Christmas and/or New Year's!

Today I weighed in at 216.6 after seeing a high of 222 earlier this summer. Busyness has a way of impacting my weight for the positive. Of course, it also takes a toll on other things such as my sleep and my overall mood. I'm not confident that the weather is really changing, but we've been blessed with some significantly cooler weather the last few days. While our air is still just so-so, it is a welcome change. To be able to sleep with windows open AND need a blanket is one of life's great pleasures, in my opinion.

I hope everyone has a lovely and productive day!
