  • Trish, I don't want to call you a liar, but I don't think you did 120 hrs on the recumbent bike this week. LOL You are doing good, but not THAT good!

I had a 6 hour eating window today. I ate breakfast at 10 am and finished dinner at 4pm. DH is eating scrambled eggs right now. He knows how much I love them, and he never eats them at night. He is trying to get me to eat!! That little son of a gun! I explained IF to him today but I don't know if he was paying attention. I told him I want to eat a late breakfast and an early dinner with 16+ hours of fasting in between. He said 16 hours was pretty long and I told him I will be sleeping for 8 of them. He thought about that for a while and said he understood. Ha Ha Then right after that he asked me if I wanted eggs. I will wait until tomorrow for my eggs. The bacon is gone.

Mad, DH is mostly concerned that I am available to eat with him at dinner. Breakfast, if he wants to go out, otherwise we do our own thing. Now that I've explained IF to him, it's up to me to make sure I am eating when I want to. If he eats at the food court at the casino that is my opportunity to do a longer fast, skipping dinner if it's convenient. There's nothing at the food court that really excites me.
  • Carol: I gotta wonder about the eggs at night. Well, you passed the test! way to go.
155 this am, although I have done 2MAD several days in a row. I am eating today as well, because we are taking DD and her fella out for brunch. She started her social work school program last week, and I want to go see her and check in and generally be supportive. I can do an omelette and just that today.

Trish: keep up the good work. Emphasis on activity and fitness is as important as what we eat, because of course, exercise has a big effect on our blood sugar, though not much on our weight.

Hope to hear from Pipsicle and some of our other friends who post occasionally. Please feel welcome all.

  • It ended up that DH made a egg, tomato and cheese sandwich last night which IS something that he sometimes eats in the evening but usually he had cereal with warm milk before bed. After he went to bed I noticed he had left some extra egg on a plate in the kitchen. To tempt me, no doubt, because he usually washed his dishes. I dumped them in the sink to make sure I didn't eat them. I was 5 hours into my fast and didn't want to blow it.

Recently I read about how exercise makes hormonal changes that contribute to fat burning. I will see if I can find it. Even so, we know that dietary changes need to be made.

FBG was 103 Wt is down another pound to 185. Very slow but downward. I am not on plan. Eating whatever I want for the most part the past couple days but within the window. No hunger, but during the night I wanted some cheese. Probably because he mentioned having it. But I knew the cheese would still be here today so I stayed in bed. I hope I can continue this.

I stopped wearing the heart monitor. There were a few days left but it was bothering me so I guess I did 26 days out of 30. I feel good in that respect.
  • Carol Sue Yes that was a typo. I meant 120 minutes for the week. I'm not sure I will get that many in this week on the bike. All that was besides the walking at the store and other activity so I ended up with a good week of workout.

Congratulations on the lb gone and the staying on IF in spite of DH trying to tempt you. DH made the statement to me this week that maybe I shouldn't keep doing what I was doing because of the upset stomach, but I told him that I didn't want to change. He doesn't try to stop me though. Years ago I started an Overeaters Anonymous group in my home and many of the women talked about how they thought their hubby's were always sabotaging their diets. We decided that they felt comfortable with our weight. We were not big on pizzas back then and if I sent DH to get something to eat he would always come home with one and of course OA diet plan back then was the strictest low car low fat plan I have ever seen. We just have to learn to do what is best for us.

FBG was 125 and weight 216. I forgot and weighed... it is a habit. I can't seem to get away from the 8:16 IF woe because I am eating when hungry. I am kind of trying to do IE with this because I really don't like eating if I'm not hungry. So I will go with it. Staying OP is the key. I think all the activity makes me hungry so I may back up on it. I would really like for DH and me to get out more. We still haven't been to some of the local stores we used to like to walk through including the local mall. I don't even go and walk through Walmart or $ stores any more.

Fatmad Enjoy being with your DD and her fella. I hope your foot is healing well.

Pipsicle Look forward to seeing how you did this week.

You Newbies pop I and let us know how things are going.

DH and I are going to Harbor Freight later and he wants to get some fish and be back home in time for the Dallas Cowboys game. We could have planned to go see Daddy but he will be watching football today. He is so happy that it is football season again so that will keep him occupied watching football all week.

Y'all have a super Sunday everybody.
  • Confirmed loss in danger!
Trish- That's great you got so much exercise in! I remember I saw one article where a doctor was quoted as saying "Exercise is the closest thing we have to a magic pill.".
Mad- Your poor foot- I hope it heals quickly. As for the holiday, my vote would be to book it anyway. I went to Disney World with a broken toe once and did okay.
Carol- It sounds like you are getting into a good IF routine! I had a thought on the food your husband leaves out. Any possibility it is an act of love not sabotage? Maybe he is confused and thinks you are eating it after all so he keeps doing it thinking he is providing for you? Also, I stopped in on Friday to share my story with Ana because I wanted to make sure they saw it. My friend has told me about the guy's success several times. She knows I am really worried about becoming diabetic and would like for me to try keto. Unfortunately for me, when I even think about restricting food in any significant way I start reflexively overeating. It is something I don't seem to be able to overcome. Anyway long story short- it also made me feel confused on what day it was - LOL.

This week I had a hsoohw. That's whoosh backwards as pound and a half popped back on out of the ether mid week. I tried to step up my game and it was looking good Friday and Saturday. However today, my official weigh-in day, I am up a half pound from my confirmed ticker weight. ARGHH! So, my personal rule is I have until the end of the month to lose it again. If at the end of the month my weight is still up, I will change my ticker to reflect the higher weight. I have a lot of time to improve. FBS (in pre-diabetic range) and BP (139/94) are up from last week.

So two weeks ago, I had several days where I overate. The week before last week, I felt really good and got a lot done. This last week, I struggled with fatigue and had to battle the energy seeking behavior (e.g.: drinking sugared soda). I was successful with my fasting and staying within my calorie cap. But in general, I felt lousy and only got about a third of my chores done. I think I may have cold or it could be allergies. A huge bright spot for last week is I went ice skating twice. Usually, I have been only doing one lap. On the second visit, I did two laps- Yay! I know it doesn't sound like much but it is a giant accomplishment for me.

With regards to my official weigh-in day, I have been thinking about changing from Sunday to Friday. Generally, I have a really good number on Fridays. In the end, I have decided against it since I think I tend to eat worse on Fridays and Saturdays. That's part of the reason I feel very frustrated this morning. I made better choices because I wanted a good weigh-in but it feels like it didn't even matter. I'm sure it did, however, I really wanted that instant reinforcement. In addition, since I put so much emphasis on the end of the month weigh-in, I am thinking I will change up my IF for the last week of each month. I'm either going to add an extra day in (currently at two days a week) or I will go for a longer time (currently at 16-19 hours, would try to do 24 hours).

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out.– Robert Collier
  • Pipsicle, I like that quote. Every one has a bump up now and then. Not to worry. I don't have a weigh in day. It's whenever I feel I've lost.

Good for you on ice skating. Baby steps. Some day 3 laps around, then 4. Etc.

DH SAYS he is trying to be considerate but I know him. He knows I tend to eat whatever is put in front of me. I need him to see that I've changed. And I need to learn it's ok to throw food away.

Trish, I knew you meant minutes. I am thinking that I'm eating too much. Since I'm sticking to my window I think I can eat as much as I want and I'm stuffing myself, having dessert, etc. I have to stop that. Eat normally.

Was OA diet the Grey Sheet?

I wanted to tell you about these things I saw in Walmart. They are little packets for a low carb snack with meat, cheese and nuts. Some are Sargento and have just cheese and nuts and some a different name that also have meat, like ham or turkey. I thought you would like to take one when you go somewhere. I might take one in the car for when DH eats crackers but that will have to be after the weather cools down. Can't leave them in a hot car.
  • Pipsicle: take that NSV of being able to skate two laps, and focus on that. You are getting more fit and healthy with what you are doing, that is shown in muscle strength and stamina. Perhaps the weight is muscle and you are seeing health benefits. That will have a benefit on your blood sugar too.

Carol: I am glad you are finding a way to manage IF with DH around. You found out how well you could do while he was in hospital. Now you have the challenge of doing it with him around. Best wishes and just go.

Trish: hope you are managing well and your tummy is better.

Had a lovely visit with DD yesterday. The celiac facebook page did well with the recommendation of restaurant, they did have a special spot and equipment for gluten free. I had no reaction afterward. So we will go there again. DD plans to be tested for celiac as well. She sees her doctor on Friday and will ask for the blood test first. She has had digestive issues for years, though not classic childhood celiac symptoms, but lately her symptoms fit more with celiac, and since my diagnosis, it seems to be a good idea.
She enjoyed her first week of classes. It will be 2 years of me on tenterhooks and trying not to show it though. She has gone off programs and started to have issues with little warning before. She gets very excited about how "perfect" something is, then turned off so completely when it isn't that she can't cope and she quits. So I am praying she finds a path of "imperfection" in this.

I was walking quite well by last night, but woke up pretty sore this morning. No codeine since Saturday am now. I really don't want to take more tylenol, so will try to do without any today, in spite of that. Ice and rest alternating with walking. I have to go to the office today, so hope I can drive ok. If not, DH will have to take me. It is the right foot, so driving may be tricky.

Hope everyone has a good Monday. Best wishes friends
  • Pipsicle You are making progress being able to do 2 laps at the skating rink. Don't worry about the weight as it will come back off probably with more weight off. I understand how you feel about the keto diet as I feel the same way. As soon as I cannot have a certain food, I start craving it. I really wish I could stop that. I have often felt like I have a rebellious attitude toward restrictive diets as I really have to fight those feelings. I really think that was the reason I did so well on Intuitive Eating for years until someone falsely told me that you should not go longer than 5 hrs without eating. Now we have Dr. Fung and his Intermittent Fasting that tells us the opposite. Perhaps I should go back to IE.

Fatmad Your description of your DD sounds a lot like me. I never thought of it but I think that is how I am. Seeing that means that I need to work on changing my attitude. I hope she will be happy where she is and find her way. I have had things that I was good at and really enjoyed so I hope she will too.
Sorry your foot is giving you problems and hope it gets better soon.

Carol Sue I will look for those snacks. It is too hot to carry them right now but would be nice to carry on those days I want to go without breakfast like Friday when I go to beauty shop.

Yes OA had the grey sheet and an orange sheet. The difference was you were allowed a serving of starchy food on the orange sheet. Of course, since I always go the extreme and did the grey sheet. I never lost a lot of weight on that either, but I did feel great. I had a difficult time even losing on the strict low carb plan. But of course then we didn't have Dr. Atkins and didn't know that our measuring tape was a better friend than the scale.

FBG was 120 and weight seems to be hanging in the 216s bouncing between 216 and 216.4. I checked bs last night around 11pm and it was 98. So I am convinced that I am missing the real low.

Busy week this week but that is probably good since we stay home too much. DH decided he wanted to go to Harbor Freight yesterday to get some butterfly lights to put in the moon windows. They are solar lights and come on at night. Today we will go see Daddy and then hit Sam's for a few things. Thursday we have our 3 month appointment with the nursing home and of course Friday is beauty shop and store. We have to get our car inspected sometime this month to get our car tags renewed. I personally think that is good for us.

Hope everybody has a great day.

  • I got up early this morning probably too early for DP so FBG was 92. I ate late last night so did not stay in my window. Probably 10 hr eating window. Maybe I will skip breakfast to make up for it. I don't have to have a perfect fast every day, just most days.

I have to take a letter to the post office to get it certified and was going to go to the senior breakfast but it is in the opposite direction. So I will just skip breakfast all together and go through til dinner.

Temps are still in the high 70s but go back up to the 80s with rain the next 4 days. So summer isn't over yet.
  • 154 this morning after successfully fasting yesterday. My fasts are cleaner these days, just a bit of cream with morning tea, then water the rest of the day, not having as much tea and therefore cream. So just a little fat which won't completely break the fast. I do need it for my meds.
Planning 2MAD today and hope to fast again tomorrow.
Longer walks, around the block yesterday. Coping ok, managed with no pain meds except tylenol yesterday morning, will try with nothing today. Slept ok last night too.
Plan a morning walk, afternoon walk and maybe even a walk in the evening, of 2 blocks if I can, rebuilding stamina and preventing stiffness. Hope I'm not being too optimistic, but if I want to hike etc on my holidays next month will need to be in shape for that. DH is working hard on his feet, wore his "boot" to bed last night to work on possible PF. He isn't convinced its plantar fasciitis, but the treatment works.

Hope everyone is doing well. Carol: extending your fast now is just fine too. Even if you have an early supper and something a little later will work. Sounds like you have a good and busy day planned.
Trish, have a good visit with your father.
  • Had a good visit with Daddy yesterday. One of those where you hate leaving him. I really treasure those times. Made copies of his September calendar on my phone so I can remind him of activities I think he will like. The end of the month they are taking them to Golden Coral and I told him he can go get him a steak and have it done like he wants it.

FBG was 116 and weight was 215. I am doing more of a IE/LC/IF woe. I've decided that is the way I like to eat. Of course sometime the food goes more the way DH likes. However, he surprised me yesterday because I thought he would want his KFC meal when we left Sam's club, but he decided to get McDs CB which is actually lighter than the KFC. I do so much better with the McDs meal. LOL

Carol Sue You are doing very well with the bs and IF. I think we all had to find our own way and I really believe we have learned how to work around the obstacles as well. My fasts are as long or short as it needs to be depending on what is going on that day. I'm learning to relax and listen to what my body needs at the moment. I think you are too.

Fatmad I hope you and DH will be able to get in the shape you need to be for your holiday coming.

    Have a great day everyone.
  • I'm so glad you had a good visit with your Dad, Trish. I hope he gets to go to Golden Corral. I think those outings cheer him up.

We didn't go out today so we will have to go tomorrow. I realised there are so many things I need from the store. Even though we go often it's just to Walmart. I need a trip to Aldis. I wanted to make chili but didn't have beans. And we didn't go to the post office. I felt very tired today and didn't do much. The hot weather is moving back in and bringing humidity with it, so it's draining.

Mad, I hope your DHs foot improves. My PCP thinks my pain is Plantar Fasciatis. I think that is the most common foot issue. The gout meds seemed to help me, or it went away by itself, but my wrist pain went away too, and that would not be plantar fasciatis. I am just glad it's gone and don't care why. It feels good to feel.good.
  • HI friends: clocked in at 153 today, lower than yesterday after fasting, and I ate yesterday, but was subdued. Stuck mostly to keto, except I at fruit, the nectarines are ripe and wonderful.
I will eat tomorrow and do my cooking and baking for Saturday. We have a community yard work day on Saturday, so I am making a regular and vegan chilli, and also some cake for a friend's birthday on Saturday afternoon. If I did it on Friday, when I hope to fast, that will undo me. So planning to fast today and Friday. Will see if that works.
DH is going up to the cottage for several days to work, so I may keep on the alternate day fasting and see where I can get with it. Would be nice to get below 150 and be able to maintain that for a while, but I have been thinking of that for ages, and have not had the will or the ability to plan that well.
I also was not as active yesterday as I hoped to be. A bit more pain with the walking, but fine with rest. So I did a little less than I hoped to, because I didn't want any pain meds. Maybe today will be better.
we are having a mini heat wave and its quite warm

Carol: I'm just happy your pain left, whatever the cause, whatever the cure.
Trish: you are maintaining well, and maybe we will see some dips before too long if what you are doing is working.

    Have a good day friends.
  • Y'all talking about chili is making me want to cook some chili, but it is still in the upper 90's here ladies. LOL

I woke up with yogurt on my mind wondering how many calories and carbs were in my homemade yogurt. LOL So I got up and got the calculator and figured out it has 60 calories per 1/2 c serving and only 1.5 g carbs because it is made with regular 1/2 and1/2 which is 1 carb for 2T. The only thing I add to it is the probiotics which has 1 carb and alcohol free vanilla flavoring and almost a cup of Stevia which are 0. Some time I get tired of making it but I think this makes me see that I make a very high quality yogurt so I will continue making it. My yogurt maker isn't doing as well as a 2 tier yogurt maker so I may have to figure something else out. Thinking about making a half batch at a time. Just not sure how to do it with the probiotic as I don't see any way of dividing it. I may have to buy a yogurt pot and make it. I'll figure it out.

I was too early for checking FBG because I think I learned that my bs is rising before 9 am. I checked it at 5 till 9 and it was 133 and then checked it again and it was 151 so don't have a real reading this morning. Weight was up too. It really shouldn't be because everything was done right as far as I know.

Carol Sue I forget about Aldi's. I think because it is so far from me and I usually go to our big local store when I'm over there and I just don't have the energy to go to 2 or 3 stores and go see Daddy or go to the beauty shop the same day.

I bought another book that I read about on the Low Carb sight we frequent. It is called The Hybrid Diet. Remember that book you and I bought years ago published by Reader's Digest on Foods that help improve diabetes? Can't remember the name right now. Any way it talked about foods that were high on the Glycemic Index but were really good for diabetics because the Glycemic Load was low. This book talks about the same thing. I haven't got to read much since I got it last night, but it some how mixes that with keto dieting. It is a book that costs over $20 but I got it from Amazon for $9 something. It talks about eating what they call slow carbs, but I don't know what they are yet. It is a British book written by 2 guys named Patrick Holford and Jerome Burne and the diet is supposed to be low carb. I will share as I read.

Fatmad I hope your foot is feeling well enough for you to do the things you want to get done as well as your exercise. I am starting to look forward to my exercise. I will be able to get my exercise in today and will have 3 days, but the next 2 days will be tricky because I will be so busy. However, I really want to get the bike done as I am working towards 5 days a week. Before I moved to TX, it was just my regular routine and I'm trying to get that and my diet back to what it was when I moved here.

    Have a nice day everyone.
