  • Good afternoon. We went out to lunch and were then going to go to grocery. I ate about 3 bites of spaghetti and gave up. Didn’t even bring it home. I was hurting so we came straight home and I took some meds. I feel better now. I rarely have diverticulosis attacks, but today was my day I guess. We’ll go shopping after Jack gets home from work tomorrow.

We have heat advisories until Wednesday and heat index is 106 right now. It is quiet as a church outside and that always makes me nervous. The tree out by the street isn’t moving at all. We aren’t expecting rain though.

We sat down to watch the baseball game and I did up some new clothes laundry. I should unload the dishwasher but it can’t wait until morning if I don’t get to it. It was a half load.

I have Amazon Prime and they have old tv shows. I’ve been watching “The Mothers-in-law” with Eve Arden and Kaye Ballard. I liked it when it was on originally and it’s fun to see the episodes again.

CeeJay: Oh dear, that’s not good. Hope it’s a glitch or something and not cancer that has moved. I got am email today wanting me to put a sign in the yard for the current upcoming mayoral race. It irks me they get into the voting rolls and find out info. I told them no and to remove me from their mailings. For one thing I live in a condo so it’s not allowed, but I’d never do it anyway. Praying everything comes out ok for you bil.

  • Good Evening! We had thick fog early this morning and very humid clouds the rest of the time. It almost takes your breath away to go outside. We went to church because I had to pick up money then out to breakfast. We both came home and took a long nap! The tv has been on with the Olympic try outs; the boys are on right now and their strength is amazing. I can’t imagine the time they spend training. I’ve been writing birthday cards and putting dates on them to mail. I have a lot of birthdays for church coming up, as well as family.

Maddy turns 16 today; I remember the day she was born. It was humid ‘n hot and we were on our way to pick up Bob’s tractor from a tractor show when Beth called. Needless to say we made a trip to meet her as soon as we got home. She is as sweet now as when she was born imo!

“Gma,” you are so good at getting coupon saving deals on your clothes! My usual trick is to wait too long and the few coupons I get expire. I counted 19 robo calls on Saturday but only one today so far. It was really quiet around town today. Bob is sealing cracks in the patio seams and needed more goop. He said he didn’t see any customers in the store (not WM) and only a couple cars in the parking lot. Do you watch Amazon Prime on your iPad or the tv? Glad your meds helped!

Ceejay, I’m glad the stent is helping your bil! I hope the liver spots are just shadows (?) and not cancer. There is always hope. on going to the gym and taking care of yourself! I know the kids all seem to prefer ice cream cakes, Maddy wanted one for today too. Is the niece who just left the one who has the cat you babysat?

I need to put my card stuff away and unload the dishwasher. Enjoy the rest of your evening!
  • Ceejay, your post was on the old thread but I was glad to see you tonight! How do you make your meatloaf? Mine never comes out like it used to and has no taste to it. I have tried different recipes I have found online, and none of them turn out good. It used to be one of my favorite meals.
  • Morning
I want to do some things in the front yard today even though the heat index is predicted to be 106. It is August. It's supposed to be hot. And I'm spoiled by the air conditioner. but need to go to the gym first.

    Jean
I found a recipe on allrecipe website that I use. It has brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, onion, day old bread but I use oatmeal, apple sauce, egg, and milk in it. I put all the ingredients in the meatloaf and add ketchup and a bit of brown sugar on the top after it bakes. I had not thought about those spots being glitches on the scan, but that's what I will think of until I'm told different. Yes, the niece that came to visit is the one I babysat the cat for.

Bless you on those diverticulosis attacks. I have to really watch what I eat because of those attacks. Corn is the worse for me. Haven't thought about watching Amazon Prime for older shows. I use Netflix for that. Oh and by the way the books that you suggested for me to read, I think Hugh Patterson, is on Kindle so I'm going to purchase at least one of them to see if I like it.
  • Good Afternoon! We got up to lazy raindrops this morning and it was pitch black outside! It is quite humid yet but not all that hot. The weekender across the street hasn’t bothered to fix his 24/7 yard light which is sort of the security light for our long block. He still hasn’t made any attempt to have his lot surveyed. Little does he know the Board of Adjustment is going to make him move the building at least four feet from the lot line. Serves him right, he is a know-it-all jerk! Counting was fast this morning and I was home after a quick trip to WM and the bank. I took checks back to the hospital after lunch and have done a load of laundry. Now I am resting!

Ceejay, thanks for the meatloaf recipe site. I will look for it! I have been reading J. D. Robb mysteries. I have a hard time making myself not read during the day. But sometimes I fall asleep when I read in bed then have to reread the next night. It’s a catch 22!

The washer should be done and waiting for another load so better keep moving! Enjoy the rest of a marvelous Monday!
  • Good Afternoon! It is sunny and humid again today but only 81 degrees right now. I went to get my nails filled this morning then home to dust. The oven guy is coming this afternoon “sometime” after 2. I wasn’t going anywhere so that works for me. I broke down and called for a doctor’s appointment. I told the receptionist I needed Plan B for allergies and Plan A for a stuck thumb. I know her so wasn’t surprised when she giggled. I can’t get in until Friday. Even though the clinic is closed Saturdays and Sundays, the doctors and nurses get a day off during the week. They also take an hour at noon, start office hours at 8:30, and no appointments after 4:30. There are never any cars in the parking lot at 5:00.

I need to rev up the vacuum and run it around the kitchen before the repairman gets here. Enjoy the rest of a terrific Tuesday!
  • Morning
I've been to weigh in. Lost a pound so that is good despite the fact that I've been on a donut binge this week. Think it is due to the fact that I was out of the protein bars that I love so much and had nothing else to turn to. I've lost 9.5 pounds so far. It's taking me longer than most but I'm getting there.
I kept smelling grass in the garage since I mowed on Saturday so I've investigated the riding lawn mower. I took the panel off where the grass blows out the side, It was full of moldy grass. I scraped some off and got the hose after the rest of it. The mower is to big for me to turn over on it's side but I may try to do that while I'm in the back yard next time I mow. If I can't I will get my nephew to do it for me. May go to Lowe's in the morning to see if they have ramps. I need to get new weed eater string also.
We've had a cold front come through with out rain. It is really nice this morning. I did trim the ornamental pear tree out front so that the lower branches could not steal my cap when I mow under it. Hope it is still this nice tomorrow as I want to do a couple of things outside.
I've been sitting in my chair all afternoon so I'm going to clean the living room when I get through posting.
    Have a good day/night.
  • Good evening! It’s miserable today. It was 98 today with 117 I think was the heat index. It is still in the 90’s at 7:30 and it doesn’t cool off much at night. Jack says humidity was 80% today. He walked from car to house and he was all sweaty.
I am not leaving the house with it being this hot.

We are watching the Cubs game and I keep hoping it will cool off. We have an ugly storm moving in with high winds, lightening, and heavy rain. We may lose the game soon and have to watch it on our Ipads.

CeeJay: I kind of do a throw together meat loaf. I use eggs, ketchup, onions, breadcrumbs, meat. I just put ketchup on the top. I make individual ones for each of us. Hope you can get your mower all cleaned out. We are weed free for right now and the dude next door finally cut down all the ones over there. He stuck his dog in the back though and no one is living there. I don’t know how it gets fed and watered. It’s a big dog I know that. Hugh Pentecost is the author.

Jean: Hard to believe the kids are teens. Thomas will be 20 next year. Our office is open 8-4:30, takes 2 hour lunches where you can’t even make appts on the phone. We have to use minute clinics or ER on the weekends. Wat is wrong with the oven? I know you’ve had temp issues before.

    Have a good evening.
  • Not much going on today. Going to a church potluck tonight. I can't seem to get started today.
  • Good Morning! It’s cloudy and a “cool” 57 degrees early this morning! That is cold if anyone asks me! I am waiting for the oven guy to come; he called about 8:15 to make sure I was home and said hopefully he’d be here by 9. I was in my robe so got dressed in a hurry! He must have run into trouble on his first stop because he isn't here yet. I was going to make a macaroni salad for lunch but didn’t want to be using the stove when he came. Maybe it is Bob’s day to fix lunch and we’ll go out for a sandwich. Not much on my agenda today except I had planned to do some serious cleaning. Maddy wanted to go to the waterpark for her family birthday on Sunday, but the weather looks a little iffy right now with a chance of thunderstorms. So food planning is on hold until tomorrow. Guys across the street are cutting down trees on their lake side so it is noisy with multiple saws going.

Ceejay, on losing 9.5#s! Just think of 9.5#s of butter GONE! I think you are doing amazing with all that is going on in your life right now. Bob missed a pile of dog poop when he mowed but did hit it with the edge of his tire. Needless to say the garage smelled pretty rank the next morning. Do you get pears from your tree? There is an apple tree next door but it never has apples, just pretty flowers in the spring. Hope you enjoyed yesterday with “not much going on.” What did you take to your potluck?

”Gma,” I could use some heat again. This weather is something else! The oven wasn’t baking like it should. It hasn’t browned meatloaf unless I turn up the temperature towards the end. It took forever to preheat according to my rinky dink thermometer. I made a pan of bars that browned around the edge but was still soupy in the middle. The first repairman calibrated it without using his official machine to check it. Then it would keep getting hotter and hotter, not holding the set temperature. The second repairman brought his testing machine and thinks a sensor was confused between baking and broiling. It’s 7-8 years old, I think. Bob says, “like brand new!” Anyhow, will try the new part and hope it’s fixed.

The oven guy just pulled in the driveway, gotta go. Have a terrific Thursday!
  • Good evening ladies. We have dinner and cleanup out of the way and are watching the ballgame. It is still hot at 89 right now. It is sweltering here long into the evening.

I got my dress, jacket and shoes today and they are gorgeous. Nice that the dress is comfortable too. The shoes are cute, but not made to walk all over the place. We don’t wear dress clothes to the shows and such and since I use the scooter it’s not a big deal.

CeeJay: Hope you had a nice time at the potluck. I always laugh thinking about the variety at potlucks. You have tremendous cooks and then terrible ones. We had this dear lady at our church who absolutely not cook. She would bring these awful, awful casseroles and people knew who brought them and wouldn’t touch them. I felt sorry for her and didn’t want her to be embarrassed when not even a spoon had been taken out. I’d take a big serving then cover my plate with a napkin and dump it upside down in the trash can. I couldn’t face eating the stuff because it was ghastly, but I didn’t want her feelings hurt either.

Jean: Cripes, when Jack left for work this morning at 6, it was in the 80’s. Is your oven working now? We bought a convection/toaster oven and used it for the first time tonight to heat up rolls. My stove has convection cooking, but it heats up the kitchen too much in this weather because the kitchen opens into the living room. What do you put in your macaroni salad. I like tuna and olives in mine. Husbands!

Hope you have a nice evening.
  • I went to Lowe' s this morning in search of the tire ramps for the lawn mower. They didn't have them so I drove over to Walmart to get a few things. After this I came back home and have not unloaded the grocery bags yet. Luckily nothing will spoil.
Last night I got a couple of text while at the potluck. by the way I didn't take anything. My cousin text me to tell me that his mom passed away. She hasn't been in good health for awhile and in her 80's, but it's still sad.
I'm not sure why but I've been depressed today. More like the moody blues than depression. Tomorrow will be a new day.
  • I woke up to thunder around 4.30 this morning. We have had some good rain this morning and cooled things down.

Not much else is going on. I need to get busy and get some cleaning done this morning. Beginning to realize that cataract surgery will be sooner than later. Trying not to stress over it.
  • Good Morning! The sun is trying to decide whether to shine or hide this morning. It was a warmer 62 degrees when I came downstairs earlier. It’s supposed to hit 75 midafternoon with a chance of showers. Bob just left for a tractor ride and I have sheets in the washer. I also need to do some serious cleaning today. I call them baby flies but whatever they are, they seem to multiply overnight and I have new ones in the morning. Grrr, may try a bug bomb!

“Gma,” I’m glad you like your new dress! Is it something you can wear after the cruise? I am not a dress person since I am short waisted and they never fit right. If I have to wear a skirt I look for two pieces which aren’t always easy to find either. It was nice of you to take some of the “bad” casserole. It seems like the last few potlucks we’ve been to, more people are opting for deli purchases; some don’t even bother to put it in a different container. Sad because in the old days most potlucks were good. This macaroni salad is just noodles, tuna, celery, onions, peas, and dressing which is usually Miracle Whip, milk, s/p. If the recipe (this is just a dump, no recipe) calls for mayo I use that. I went to my doctor yesterday and have to see a specialist for my thumb because my favorite doc doesn’t “do” fingers and toes, etc. Bob starts the cataract schedule next week so will be working around that and my mammo appt. which is also next week. The specialist comes here one day a week.

Ceejay, I’m sorry about the death in your family. It’s never easy so matter the circumstances. Did she live close enough that you are able to go to her service? We need some rain also, a nice gentle long shower would be nice. I know it is hard not to worry about the cataract surgery, I did too. I was told it didn’t take very long, and it didn’t, so that is the good part. Waiting is the hard part. You will be able to see the cobwebs much better afterwards! I bet you don’t have any!

I need to get dressed and get busy! Have a super Saturday and be happy!

  • Jean
I'm an anxious type person from the get go. I get it from my grandmother. My aunt lived in Arkansas so I'm not getting to go to the funeral.
I'm going to call the Dr's office as I didn't get the surgical kit that I'm supposed to take with me. And I'm going to make a trial run to find the surgical center and to relocate the dr office again so I will know where to go for my follow up. There is too many buildings in that area. This area is called the medical mile. We have 2 hospitals and each is on separate ends of the mile. It looks easy enough on the map quest. I just do not like getting on the freeway. But you miss a lot of the traffic lights going this way.

Glad you like the new dress and shoes. I'm like Jean I have a short waist and I have a hard time finding a dress that looks good on me. I like to wear pants and tops that are comfortable.

The sun is shining this morning but to wet for me to be outside this morning. I'm going to clean house and wash my sheets. Cleaned the dust bunnies from under the bed yesterday in the guest room. and washed those sheets.
