  • Hello Fellow IPers--

I am back on IP for my 2nd time around. My bday was last week and my husband took me to a wonderful restaurant who made everything IP Phase 1 compliant and the waitress was amazing. My husband called the restaurant and they said they could meet any request...sometimes that does not hold true.

So I thought I would give a big shout out to Columbia Firehouse in Old town Alexandria VA. The waitress was Sonya--make sure she is working she handled everything perfect. She kept checking in and the chef asked me questions to make sure it was done right. All the staff wanted to know what diet I was on too.

It was nice to get a very clean P1 meal for my bday without feeling weird.

They made a special salad for me, I got an 8oz hanger steak with mushrooms and steamed spinach. Since I could not have dessert she gave me cups of tea on the house!!! Just lovely. It is expensive but for special occasions it is very nice.

  • I am not on IP but I live near there and I am liking the look of that menu...
  • Thanks for sharing! I will make it a point to try it out!
  • I hope you do try it. The regular food looked great as well. Where do you live in DC area? Just curious. Let me know if you go there. Good luck!

Looks beautiful! I am just south in Woodbridge and have actively avoided going out - even though it was our anniversary on Monday. Might be worth looking into for this weekend if we can swing a babysitter for DD10.
  • If you go. Make a reservation. They get busy during prime time even on weeknights. Enjoy!!

I wish there were more restaurants in the area that are "safe"

Thanks for the heads-up - we don't go out to super-fancy places much and I wouldn't have thought about it!
  • We actually go to Char Broil brazilian in Woodbridge even though the meats have salt and other stuff on it.

We also went to Bistro L'Hermitage in Occoquan for Valentines Day. They tried to meet my needs but I think they put salt on the mushrooms...the filet mignon and lobster tail was very good.
  • Thank you for the recommendation! I'm in Arlington and will have to check it out!
  • Hi DC metro IPers.

Went back again tonight...was really sick of cooking. Had same meal different waiter. Carlos was great too and mgr came over to make sure they got the order right. Mushrooms were so good here!!

Anyone else recommend restaurants in DC metro area? I am always looking for IP friendly places!!!
  • Aw yeah, this thread is my jam. I'm in Chantilly, and definitely could use some local eateries.
  • Hubby and I finally got out this past Friday - went to Phillips Seafood at the Inner Harbor (not NoVa, but a lot of us probably head up to Balt. from time to time).

You can't get much IP safer than a plate of fresh steamed crab legs I've found my "go-to" meal now when we plan evenings out (steamed shrimp are ok too - but most places slather shrimp in various sauces). A little pricey, and obviously, not everyone has a good seafood selection...now, the next time DD10 wants to go to Applebee's I will probably be taking my own food
  • Hysteria 625....thanks for that option very good to know. Also at Maryland Live Casino on Fri and Sat nights they have all you can eat crab leg buffet. Tough with the other buffet options but it can be done.

I just read the Philips Seafood in DC on the water has closed-FYI.

I actually ate at a Applebees on IP P1 in Massachusetts once they were very accommodating with my salad which was nice. Not the best food but it got the job done.
  • I also have gone to Ruby Tuesdays for their salad bar and I bring in my soy chips. I have also ordered the 8oz sirloin for dinner with their drilled zucchini. They accommodating to me as well. I have been to the one in Kingstowne and Alexandria on Richmond Highway.

A coach recommend to go to a place like http://www.genghisgrill.com/

I have been to the one in Kingstowne. Just don't get carbs.
  • Hubby and I went to the Brazillian steakhouse in Fair Oaks for last years anniversary- it would be way too hard to stick to 8oz of protein

Thanks for the recommendations- Ruby Tuesdays is a no-go for us (BAD experience a couple years ago) and our Applebees changed their menu used to have low carb options and thats all been removed - steak is always an option but the truth is almost all meats have been injected with solutions. Hard to inject crab legs
