Paleo Diet???

  • Hello All,

I'm an "Old Member" returning. I have currently lost 68 lbs, and then I hit a plateau, but I did finally break through doing the Bariactric Diet with my DH that he had to do 2 Weeks before his surgery. Anyway, I now want to move on to the Paleo Diet http://thepaleodiet.com/ Because I also have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) so the Paleo Diet is supposed to be good for it.

I was just wondering if anyone has tried it and if you have any advice? I did find this: http://robbwolf.com/wp/wp-content/up...QuickStart.pdf

    Thank You!
  • Paleo is awesome, I find that you'll need to get used to cooking alot to avoid alot of the foods they don't allow. While paleo is great for health and helping with alot of internal issues, it doesn't necessarily mean less calories. I modified my version to allow some diary, and I don't eat beans. Since I've been doing it alot of aches, pains and other internal issues have righted themselves.

Advice, check out paleomg.com for recipes, they are tastey and most of her ingredients are easily accessible.

Try and start out with the whole30.

While paleo is awesome, do what works for you and modify if you need to.

not sure if that helped or not.
  • Paleo has a huge *culture*. Cooking for yourself is definitely a big part of it!
I like the science but find some people are a little extreme I've integrated a lot of it into my lifestyle.

Mark's Daily Apple/Primal Blueprint is my preferred approach. I'm not sure about the weightloss, to be honest.
  • I have ended up mostly paleo through finding what works for me although I do not call myself paleo.

I eat a lot of canned fish (no time or cash to always prepare fresh fish).

And I eat oatmeal (probably not paleo).

And I eat honey (that's probably paleo).

    Flaxseed milk (probably not).

    Hummus (probably not).

    Etc.

But I also eat a ton of salad, fresh vegetables, some fruit and chili, cinnamon, vanilla etc.

My advice would be to go with it but free to modify at the fringes.
  • I'm glad to see this post. I was told by my doctor today that I HAVE to cut out the white foods or I'll have Type II diabetes in a short time. This has led me to being interested in the Paleo way of eating. I am just starting to look into it, so thank you for starting this thread. (I'm considering doing Paleo, along with counting calories for a little while, maybe dropping the calorie counting eventually.)

Raw, unfiltered (usually local) honey is totally paleo and so is flaxseed milk. Oatmeal not so much, but it's pretty easily digested so a lot of people add it to their paleo diets.

I think you're spot on; go paleo and modify where you need it. That's what I do. I love paleo, I hope you guys have good luck with it!
