I'm so mad at myself!

  • I gained it ALL back. I'm 5'1, and back up to 168lbs. I was doing so well, too, but then I sprained my ankle which made exercising hard, and it still is because I tend to roll my ankle all the time. And then around Christmas I started a new medication that increases my appetite (a lot) around the same time that I started going through an extremely stressful situation, and I'm a huge stress/comfort eater. The stress won't get better for a long time, and I start grad school soon so it will get worse, and I need to figure out a way to deal with it that doesn't involve Ben and Jerrys. So here's to a new start!
  • good luck! sorry that you've been so stressed and that it's messing with your weight loss. May be pick up a hobby or something relaxing (like yoga?, meditation?)

at one point in my journey I was also a regainer. It happens. Just keep going and you'll reach your goal
  • Well good luck with it but if you succeed, it sounds like nothing could stop you in life!

I mean how are you going to lose weight when your appetite is through the roof? I can't imagine how that could work.

But as for exercise, normally, i'd say you don't need to exercise much to lose weight. Some say the ratio should be 20% exercise and 80% diet anyway. Certainly you don't' need the kind of exercise like going to the gym and stuff. Just be active in your daily life as much as you are able.

Maybe the key will be other features like what you eat - proteins v carbs v fats, and how much you eat. i.e. not too low calories and no crap processed food. I think i've just learned that protein helps with craving avoidance and things of that kind. I should read the article again. (see Insulin on nutrition world if interested)

If you make a concerted effort to quit all the crap foods, and eat high fibre, especially soluble fibre, and the rest in the usual recommended balance of macro nutrients, you will have the best chance i think, given your medication issue. I mean given you may want to eat a lot, the foods you want to eat a lot of should be low calories, high satiety stuff. I hope you know what i'm talking about.

btw this time one of the things i am doing is making managing my stress a priority in my diet and not letting stress/depression/etc ruin it for me. the other night i had to binge on carrots until i decided i could pinch a bottle of my father's wine. A glass of that resolved my binge and enabled me to go to sleep. no regrets the next day.
  • It is ok, we all gain weight back from time to time, you just have to remember to keep going and youll get there, There is alot of hardwork, cravings, life situations, and sacrifice that your going to have to make to reach your goal, but if you just take it 1 day at a time and do your very best, then everything you did in the begginning will be well worth it!
  • It sounds like you've been having a really rough time. You have lost before though and you can and will do it again! Just keep moving along and don't give up!
  • Aww I feel you I'm back after a huge regain
