Advice on stomach area please

  • Hi all

I am feeling incredibly motivated on my diet and already losing well. The thing that really terrifies me is losing weight and my stomach having lots of loose saggy skin left behind.

I had children very young (the eldest is 21 now) and since then have had very little muscle tone in my stomach and it is already a bit on the saggy loose side. I worry that if I lose weight it will just get worse and I will be left with even less self confidence than I have now.

Can anyone give me any advice on exercises I could start with to help tone - which aren't too hard as I am very big still and totally unfit. I would hate to need a tummy tuck or anything once I have managed to lose the weight.

Thanks so much for any advice

    Marie
  • You can't tone skin or fat, you can only build muscle. Right now there is a lot of fat on your belly, and as that shrinks your skin will feel loose and mushy for a while - it takes longer to catch up. And there may be extra looseness from having kids, too. A lot of the skin elasticity is genetic. Do not be fooled into buying creams or lotions that promise to "tone" skin.

Concentrate on your weight loss, stay hydrated and eat enough fat and see what happens. Will you need or want a tummy tuck? No one can tell you that. If you read old posts, you'll see that it took some people's skin a year to "fit better" after weight loss.

Just relax and settle in to your weight loss.
  • Thank you very much seagirl. You are right, I can only see how it goes with me. I am hoping the losses will settle down into a smaller amount each week soon so it's a more gradual loss

    Thanks again
